The mini golf is also enjoyable every once in a while. Aspen Ridge is a great place to use up an afternoon. I've heard decent things about the course itself, but I can't speak from experience. I've also seen golfers receiving training on the driving range although I haven't participated in said training. Overall there are a lot of amenities for a smaller place.

As I started to give Manteno Golf Course three stars, I realized that my only large criticism was…read moreits (lack of) proximity to Chicago proper, for which I can hardly hold it responsible. Manteno is a nice enough course (with surprisingly quick greens) located in the middle of a bunch of corn fields over an hour south/southwest of Chicago. I played a round there on a Sunday afternoon for $24 with a cart. In my world, this is a pretty good deal. The course wasn't crowded and we finished in around 4 hours. It wasn't all that challenging a course, and there wasn't much water on it. It wasn't a complete cakewalk either though. The course is groomed pretty well all around, with the one notable exception being the fairways themselves which were a shockingly long cut of grass. The course isn't all that long though, making the slow fairways less of an issue. I'll definitely come back to Manteno again when I can spare the transportation time.

I recently had a driver fitting at the Mistwood Golf Dome and was really impressed by their staff…read moreand the overall experience. About 2 months ago I was fit for a set of irons at a nearby golf course and had a good experience there but the job they did at Mistwood blew that away. I worked directly with Eric on my actual fitting but it started during the week leading up with the other fitter Chris. He called me up and we had about a 20 minute chat about what I was looking for out of the fitting and what to expect. The guys are very accessible and responsive to questions I had before and after the fitting. On my fitting day I worked directly with Eric and he was great, he was very knowledgeable about all the brands and kept handing me clubs to try, even those that I hadn't thought of hitting. He was also very patient and didn't try and change my swing at all but instead fit the best club to my current swing. I hit all of the top brands and even a few others, that was worth the price in itself. They use a Trackman Launch monitor which many consider to be the best monitor for collecting data. We spent a long time getting a base line on several different head and shaft combinations. We then picked my 3 best and started tweaking them for different lofts and weights on each to dial them in. I actually left being fit into 2 different clubs for me to choose. All in all it was a great experience, the dome itself adds a whole level to it, most indoor fittings you hit into a net or screen that is 10 feet away, where at the dome you get to see about 100 yards of ball flight. I would highly recommend giving them a try.

Sorry to say, we were greatly disappointed. The course is not in good shape, cart paths are disintegrated, there are weeds and clover everywhere, unkempt flower beds. The driving range baskets were filled with balls that had obviously been found on the course. Dirty AND damaged. The bathroom should literally be condemned. The staff is socially challenged at the very least and rude at the worst. What is in the water here that pp are so unfriendly? They are playing golf on a beautiful day and they appeared angry, definitely not friendly. Perhaps because we were not regulars? Not like any course we've ever been to before. Golfers have always been the friendly sort. So much potential here. Someone who cares needs to buy this course. The potential is amazing. The current offering is a fail.

Never once did I feel like my complaint was being heard because he was rude and argumentative. I suggest retraining the staff on how to be friendly in enforcing the course rules. The tone of voice and way my phone call was handled was not representative of the City of Joliet and their Park District. Did not feel at all welcome or like he appreciated the business... happy to take our money elsewhere, I guess.

Mistwood was our venue for both our wedding ceremony and reception, and everything was beautiful!…read moreWe planned everything in 11 months with the help of staff coordinator Audra. In July we attended the tasting to try all the dishes and from there chose all the menu options for the reception dinner. It was very convenient to have the venue as the caterer, and as we had eaten at McWethy's, their restaurant, many times (including the night we got engaged), we knew the food would be good. Since our wedding was in November, we had both the ceremony and the reception in the Great Hall. There was another event there (baby shower) in the morning but we were able to take possession of the bridal room at 2:30 pm and the other group had cleared out by then. My now-husband and his team of friends who were helping set up said the staff did a good job of quickly flipping the venue from the baby shower to ours. My only quibbles with the venue pertain to the bride room. There was only one lit bulb in the chandelier, so lighting was poor; no hangers in the closet; they provided us with a samovar of water upon request, but it leaked all over the vanity (water bottles would have been better); the couch is very low (my maid of honor couldn't get up from it without help; my mother brought in a couple of dining chairs so we weren't just standing, because there was just one other armchair to sit on); and it started out freezing but ended up roasting hot in the room. It was a good thing it was just me, my maid of honor, my mom and my hairdresser, and we had already done makeup at my mom's house in the morning, because if there had been lots of bridesmaids it would have been too crowded! (The bride room is connected to the public ladies room, but it has a keypad lock; the lighting in there is quite ambient as well.) We went for a medieval sort of theme with our wedding, so the Tudor-style beams and large fireplace in the Great Hall worked well with this. Our photographer also took photos outside against the golf course and building, including a lovely but very steep bridge. Cocktail hour was in the Terrace Room while they flipped the Great Hall from the ceremony seating to the tables and dance floor setup. We had arranged for specialty cocktails (named after our cats!) and the bartender delivered! The catering captain, Betty, introduced herself to us and also coordinated the timing of things well (speeches, bringing out the late night snack pretzel wall, etc). All the staff that we interacted with were true professionals. The food was all delicious (we chose NY strip with garlic herb butter sauce, chicken with champagne sauce, and cauliflower steak with pesto sauce as our three entree choices), and it was very helpful that they could make accomodations for vegans, vegetarians, people with gluten allergies, and dairy intolerance. This was quite an affordable yet very beautiful venue for our perfect day! Everything went perfectly as far as I know and we heard so many times from guests how lovely the setting was. I would highly recommend Mistwood as a wedding venue if you are planning for your special event.

Golf: Very nice, scenic, interesting course, but being a public facility, not in the best…read morecondition. Lots of unfilled fairway divots, ball marks on the greens that aren't being repaired. Golf carts are electric, but have way too many ads appearing on the GPS screen. Annoying. Green fees are fair and they offer a small senior discount during the week. Restaurant: Food is really very good. Service varies from good to slow, depending on the size of the crowd. Breakfasts are excellent. The bar, unfortunately, only carries 2 brands of scotch, neither of which is very good. But they do have a large variety of beers, and other drinks. Accommodations: This is where I was extremely disappointed. The cottage (Cottage C) claimed to have 2 queen beds in each of the 4 rooms. That's quite an exaggeration, if not an outright lie. The beds are singles (and small singles, at that). Very uncomfortable sleeping conditions. If you can get the cottage with the king bed, do so, otherwise, skip the trip.
