I recently made my first trip to the Outer Banks. My boyfriend and I slipped away from the group to celebrate our six-month anniversary, and chose this restaurant as our destination. What a great choice--we loved our meal here! To drink, we each got a glass of wine from their By the Glass menu. I got the Malbec, and it was really great. I believe my boyfriend got the Pinot Grigio (I cringed when he pronounced the wine, so this seems like a likely candidate). We started by sharing the Carolina Pickled Shrimp, a twist on shrimp and grits. Incredible--so creamy and delicious! The tomato jam on top was killer. For our entrees, I was really torn between ordering the crab cakes and beef tenderloin--I mean, I'm on the seaside. I should be eating seafood. But I couldn't do it!! In the end, I got the beef tenderloin, and it was the best cut of meat I've ever had. If you're similarly torn, go for the beef. Incredible. My boyfriend got the yellowfin tuna special, which came with fried rice on the side. Similarly spectacular! We finished by splitting the Valhrona Chocolate Torte, but I requested that they substitute the white chocolate ice cream with espresso ice cream. Solid decision. So yeah, basically every course knocked it out of the ballpark. And just a general note to finish up: if you're ordering something cooked to order, go rare or medium rare (or, as I recently discovered, "rare plus," which is between rare and medium rare). I recently read Anthony Bourdain's Kitchen Confidential, in which he reveals that chefs save the worst cuts of meat for people who ordered meat/fish well-done. read more

My husband and I went to Blue Point recently while we were staying in nearby Corolla. We were in the Outerbanks off-season when restaurant options are limited with so many places closed. Blue Point immediately became a favorite and is now on our top 3 list in-season or off-season. Food is fantastic and the cocktails were perfectly served by friendly professional staff. Highly recommend going at sunset since they are located right on the edge of the Sound with spectacular sunset views! The atmosphere is a balance of - formal enough, casual enough, and not pretentious. Highly recommend them. We'll be back soon- can't wait!! read more

I was warned that this place was kinda expensive but we took the trip anyway. DO NOT TAKE KIDS ... kids are welcome there I guess. Nobody said anything about my baby being there but the menu is not kid friendly. My baby got an $8 slice of mac and cheese. Ok so on arrival the place is nice and on the water. We took a million pics I loved the scenery. The staff was very friendly seating us and telling us the specials. They put on the menu to not alter the dishes. I was ok with that so I looked at the choices and chose a noodle dish mainly because of the shrimp. My fiance chose the porkchop because our server said it was good. Like I mentioned earlier I got my baby the mac and cheese. Plates arrived his chop was as thick as hell but he had a spoonful of burned cabbage and a square of mac and cheese. My noodle bowl looked pretty but smelled like sour dishwater. The taste was weird I think it was the large amount of cilantro they put in it. I only had about 5 shrimp that were a good size but not for the price of the bowl. We love sweets so brownies with ice cream and a pecan tart were our weakness. My ice cream said bourbon and yes I tasted every drip of alcohol in it lol. I like the concept of the place. You can see the chefs they are in white coats and fancy looking. They have drinks and wine but some flavor is lacking. It's not worth the price. I really think they need better menu selections etc grateful for the nice service but never again. read more

As far as outdoor atmosphere and views are concerned, this place is great. Waiting for a table, whilst it may take a while, is pleasant. Inside, the noise level is distributive, and I wouldn't consider this a good choice for an intimate dinner. The food fails to impress. It's just mediocre for the price. At an average of $35 a plate, I expect to be wowed. I was not wowed. In short, go here for drinks and a view, and save yourself some time and money by dining elsewhere. read more

Love this place. Our favorate place in Duck for people watching. We ordered lunch and watched the young couples with kids eating and doing shots...yes thisvwas lunch! The kids kept going out and buying things at the local shops with the parents charge cards. The parents just kept doing shots.... Good family atmosphere. High quality food for an average price Quickly becoming our favorite spot in duck. We have eaten here about 8 times now and it's always great. We ate here on Saturday with our family 4 adults 2 kids. We were seated right away. We walked there and had a stroller, so it was very nice that we were seated at a table that we could just roll our napping baby up to. My oldest order a kids quesadilla and fries. It was good, she ate it and always ask for a quesadilla when we go to blue point. That day our table ordered the southern sampler, meatloaf, wedge salad, and two of the rock shrimp po boy specials. Everything was delicious but the rock shrimp po boy was on another level! It was the best sandwich I've gotten in a long time. It came with pasta salad that was really good too. The chef is doing a great job sending out memorable food. The southern sampler is a must order if you are looking for an appetizer that can easily feed 4. And their bloody Mary's are above average too. I love the pickled okra they use as a garnish. Came to Duck one Monday evening to catch the sunset. Due to it being a Monday, the main restaurant was closed, but the small bar was open and quiet. It was just perfect. Drinks were delicious (and strong!) for a reasonable price and we grabbed some seats overlooking the western bay/coastline. Some soft yacht rock in the background. It was a delightful way to end a nice walk along the Duck boardwalk! Highly recommend coming here during the off hours to grab a lawnchair and relax. read more

We made it work however upon checking in our table was not available so inquired about a cocktail. The hostess was incredibly rude. There was not a bar inside but were told to go outside to limited crowded bar area. Never an option of getting a drink. Staff was unfriendly and entitled. Not a warm greeting. I need to start by admitting that I have a complicated relationship with Blue Point. For years this was our go-to for our anniversary dinner. The last time we went for dinner (about 5 years ago) we had a HORRIBLE experience that included not being seated before walk-ins even though we had made reservations, mediocre food and a waitstaff that basically ignored us. So we stopped going. Well, my parents gave them a try for dinner again a few years ago and convinced us to give them another go. Being that we usually go in the off season for a couple's retreat and there are few options for year round dining - we've been back. Now, I still refuse to try dinner, however for lunch/brunch I think this place is a GREAT value. On the lunch menu you usually have some of the same choices as dinner but at obviously reduced prices. We snuck off to the OBX in early Dec and hit Blue Point for brunch on our way back to RVA. We were seated in a very nice 4 top booth by the window with a sound view. No wait at all. The $5 Bloody Marys are delicious and if you don't like a Bloody Mary, they also have a $5 Mimosa. I had the Crab Eggs Benedict which seems to be my brunch staple once I hit the beach. (seriously, I find it nearly impossible NOT to order this). The crabcakes were large with no filler and the egg oozed out over top. The muffin and ham were a bit difficult to cut with the knife I was given. The muffin got easier once the egg seeped into it, but I do wish I had a sharper knife. Despite the lack of grace I showed while trying to eat this, I thoroughly enjoyed it. While I'm still not ready to give them a shot for dinner, I will certainly be back for lunch/brunch. My boyfriend and I decided to try this place tonight, and we were just about the first people there, so we were seated immediately. We were given the option of sitting at the bar or at a table, the implication being you could also order off the bar menu (whatever that is) if you sat in the bar. We opted for a table. I'll say this: they do not rush you in and out here. Ample time was given between drink orders and perusing the menu, to clearing, to dessert. Our dinner was about an hour and a half as a result. (Not that this is a bad thing; just an observation.) I also got to watch the sunset (my boyfriend sat facing away; on the other hand, he was blocking the sun to keep it out of my eyes a good portion of dinner). I ordered the pork chop (which was in bone and huge), and my boyfriend got the catch of the day, seared mahi mahi. Very flavorful. For dessert we had apple cobbler--yum. Luckily, they were able to give us the a la mode ice cream in a separate dish (food allergy), which was appreciated. We enjoyed our meal quite a bit. Nice ambiance and the view can't be beat. The Blue Point surprisingly has the best mac and cheese I've ever had!! I don't say that lightly either... it wasn't because it was "soo creamy" or "had 10000 cheeses" either. It was because they infused it with poblano peppers, which added so much. It was unlike any other mac and cheese I've ever tasted. The dish I got was trout with a nice sauce. I thought the fish was extremely fresh and tasty; it went well with the sides they served. They have really nice window seats for you to look over the water while you're eating. My wife and I had a "date night" here while the little guy was being corralled by his grandparents. This is a RARE opportunity and we were not disappointed. Hostess and server were very nice and our server had an extensive knowledge of the menu. Starter: shrimp and grits. Yummy! Cooked to perfection and the cheesy grits were melt-in-your-mouth creamy. Entrees: Scallops - cooked just right. Not rubbery or soggy with a nice sear. The slaw was a nice compliment. Crab cakes: huge lumps of crab with no filler whatsoever. Very fresh tasting. My wife makes a mean crab cake (so she knows a thing or two about crab cakes) and we both agreed that these were top notch. Dessert: Pecan pie with homemade whiskey ice cream was fantastic. Great flavor combinations done very well. Strawberry rhubarb cobbler with homemade lemon ice cream was also very very tasty. Overall, a delicious meal that was a bit expensive, but well worth it. Our first trip to the Outer Banks. Spend a week on Martha's Vineyard every summer. Worried restaurants on Outer Banks wouldn't stack up. After eating at Blue Point last night, the answer is undoubtedly . . . YES, they do stack up. Great decor, nice but not stuffy, and being right on the water is a big plus obviously. Fun crowd, energy/noise level just right with Classic R&B playing in the background. Great wine/beer list ready for exploring. For starters, try the she-crab soup, simply epic if you like Old Bay. Baby wedge also a nice choice. Entrees all A++ especially swordfish, catfish, crab cakes. All prepared to perfection with a nice array of accompaniments. Also one diner in our party made the bold but wise choice of ordering a side of mac and three cheese. Ridiculously delicious. Group shared peach cobbler and southern pecan pie for dessert. Totally worth it. Don't skip dessert here! Service was excellent. Our waiter Bruce was 100% on top of his game and also full of local insights. Will be returning to the Outer Banks, and Blue Point Bar & Grill next summer. read more

Very short wait to be seated, but our table was next to the front door and the bar. Proximity to the bar meant I had to listen to conversations from bar patrons in which I had no interest. Service was very good, but the food was just so-so. Had a cheeseburger that didn't even appear to be hand made. Fries, on the other hand, were excellent. This restaurant was suggested over and over as one of the best places to eat in the Outer Banks. We stopped in for lunch as we were leaving town after visiting the Currituck lighthouse. There was no wait for lunch, but I imagine they get busy at night. My husband got the catfish and chips and I got the soft shell crab sandwich, which was one of the two specials of the day. The catfish was fried as nuggets. I tried one and it did not have any off flavor. I can't remember much about the fries. My husband enjoyed everything about his meal. I was hesitant to get the soft shell crab as I've never had it before. But it was one of the few seafood things I had not already had and I figured this was a good place to try it. I was very pleased with my choice. The crab was whole and fried. I have to admit it was a little weird eating it whole, but it tasted great. It came on a sandwich with lettuce, tomato, and a sauce with potato salad on the side. I was impressed with the bun the sandwich came on--not your typical fluffy hamburger bun--it had a much better texture. The potato salad was fine, but I didn't eat much of it. We got the coconut cake and the pecan pie for dessert. The slice of cake was huge. While it tasted great, it ended up being too much sweet for me. I liked the lime curd on the side. My husband enjoyed the pecan pie. The Blue Point lived up to and exceeded our expectations. I was glad that I took a chance on something new and it ended up being delicous. read more

The romaine hearts were so crisp, and flawless, and the dressing was light, but just right, not an overly fishy taste, which I don't care for. The croutons were the best part! I had a wonderful grilled Ahi served on a bed of arugula with pine nuts and cherry tomatoes, topped with a tasty balsamic vinaigrette. Soooo scrumptious and one of their specials! The fish was grilled to perfection! My friend had some She Crab Bisque that was soooo creamy and flavorful. Yummy! They offer a wonderful and expansive wine selection and basically any cocktail you could want. Our cute but young server was helpful and if he couldn't answer questions, ran off and found the answers immediately. Very attentive! This restaurant sits in the sound side and has beautiful views while you eat. However, this place gets very crowded so I would highly suggest making a reservation beforehand as they fill up months in advance. Our family did not have a reservation and were treated like 2nd class citizens. They made folks who didn't have reservation step aside to let reservations in. In the future it would make more sense to keep the number of tables open to accommodate the reservations and fill in the remaining tables with the walk ins. The earlier you get there the better chance you have of getting a table. Our table had the ice tea lemonade (alcoholic) delicious! We tasted the she crab soup which was also a nice portion and had large chunks of crab meat. Our party also tasted the crab cakes, pork chop, yellowfin tuna and a vegan plate and overall everything was good. Not sure the prices matched the portions. So be ready to spend a few dollars on your meal. read more
