As a disclaimer, I had never touched a golf club or stepped onto a driving range. In essence, I am a total beginner, which was refreshing for both the instructor and me. It was not until recently, I realized Josiah Singletary, elite golf instructor, went above and beyond to ensure my time at Rick Smith's was more than pleasant. The golf center is a business partner of Trump Doral, therefore it is on the property. Josiah took me on a tour and went around the different ballrooms and conference centers. I attached the pictures I took while I was on the tour. Note that the pictures are before the event planners organize the rooms to give a better appreciation for the luxurious space available. Regardless of your political affiliation, it was very apparent that every aspect of the Trump Doral facilities and experience had not been forgotten, with the finest attention to detail present in every aspect of the resort. Josiah took the time to highlight certain aspects of the architecture that he thought was interesting. No politics; just golf, luxury, and relaxation. I appreciated Josiah's talent for time management because the transition from the tour to golfing lessons was seamless. He recommended the order of instructions: putting, chipping, and driving. I agreed and we started with putting. As a beginner, I was unaware of the intricacies at play, especially when Josiah utilized his equipment. In addition to the equipment, he understands that some students are visual learners so he would incorporate slow motion videography. It was immediately apparent that his advanced knowledge of the game enables a focused observation of your stroke. In my case, I had "micromovements" that once corrected, improved my game significantly. The clips I uploaded were among some of the videos that were recorded after his suggestions for body corrections. It is this positive reinforcement of the contact sounds between the balls and club that the sky is the limit with your own development. My personal tip is to ask about the x-factor, which will put you ahead of most beginners! Overall, I would give Josiah Singletary the highest compliments as an instructor. I recommend him and the Rick Smith's Golf Performance Center in the highest regard.

It wasn't too bad, we extended the time another 30 minutes. This is a great spot to hangout with friends and have a couple of drinks and bites. We enjoyed the margarita pizza and the churrasco tacos. The food was good and fresh. The drinks were light, could've used a bit more alcohol. My Coke was a bit watery too but our server got me a new glass. My father found Mike and we immediately set lessons together as a Father-Daughter activity together before I move away. We bought a package from Mike that includes 6 Lessons and round of Golf on the course. Despite having some experience and my father being his own self proclaimed guru (with clubs straight from 1970s and never updated, mind you) Mike is able to break down the fundamentals of the game in a very thorough and concrete way. (And convinced my father to update his clubs! haha) Our lessons consisted of learning all aspects of the game. History, foundation, long range, short game. And all the little details in between from your stance, how to properly how the club, lining your shot. Nothing is missed. At times it may seem like information overload but once you hit that sweet shot you'll have that "Ah-ha!" moment that only Mike could provide. He plays with the student's rhythm and gives you tips on positioning, mindset, and strategy to make it a successful hit. I'm glad I did some warm-up with the mini-golf in Palmetto with my son a few days before this day. Before this, I had tried playing golf once, and let's just leave it at that. A group of friends and I have been playing at this field on Thursdays, and sometimes I feel we play at this field more from convenience to all the friends that live in the area than for the field itself. Do not get me wrong, the guy that runs this shop is AWESOME. But the fields themselves...could use some work. The fields are VERY warped and not even. Even when it rains, there are "turf potholes" where water accumulates. The outdoor fields are also not as large as one would hope...but whatever, they get the job done. I have DEFINITELY been to better soccer fields and more well-kept fields. Additionally, Wynwood Soccer does NOT allow cleats. But...they rarely check. Just please, out of respect for others: do NOT wear cleats. Protect the field a little bit. The indoor side of things are not as bad. It is cool they have an indoor field and I heard kids can even have a birthday party there. The place also sells beer and Gatorade. If you ask nicely, I am sure they can play music to your liking in the exterior while you play. All in all, given that it is Wynwood, this is an "okay" field. It is about $100 an hour so if you play a 5v5, it comes out to...well, you can do the math. Catch me here on Thursday nights because...well, frankly I don't have a choice. Lol

The classes I attend start at 8:00 pm and last until 9:30 pm, with an optional warmup at 7:30 pm. Attendance varies but is usually anywhere from 4-8 people depending on the night. Overall, I've learned a ton the handful of times I've gone. Brian is very knowledgeable and passionate about the sport. My fellow classmates are super friendly and encouraging... I'm starting to progress and will hopefully be confident enough one day to take part in one of the tournaments he organizes. No matter where you are on your tennis journey, I'd recommend giving Backhand City a try if you're looking to fine tune your skills!
