The owner is really generous and not pushy. Pick a bird or a dozen and get great pictures. Worth every penny.

I hadn't gone to the humane society before although I've adopted pets from other organizations and…read morefrom friends, and I know how underfunded animal shelters can be, so I went in with low expectations - I just know they do their best with what they have, and I'm happy for any animal that is at least sheltered safely and can potentially be adopted! I went with my mom who wanted to adopt a cat but was hesitant to go alone, so I went mainly as support. Their staff was extremely kind and informative, sharing both fun and important facts about their personalities and habits, and letting us know about which cats would be better fits for my mom's lifestyle than others. The adoption process went smoothly, incl. the digital contract, carriers, health documentation, etc. I was a bit surprised when they had a rep for pet insurance give a spiel for their insurance plans at the end - kinda felt like a surprise sales pitch sprung on us, but I appreciated that they encourage having pet insurance as emergencies with animals are bound to pop up. I'm seeing a lot of people having issues getting in touch with them remotely over phone or email, so I can't speak on that, but in person, they were great!

I've adopted two dogs from HHS and provided am amazing life for them. until the very end and was…read morethere looking at dogs, after I lost my last furbaby. :( There is an older woman with short hair - maybe forties or early fifties - looks Hawaiian/Haole mixed, who sits in front across the reception desk at a computer on wheels. Not sure what her role is. (Although she seems to think she is the HHS police.) She seems to have major emotional dysregulation issues and will SNAP at people who are with a foster dog, or addopting a dog, that is sniffing at the three dog display cages in front, "DON'T LET THE DOG MAKE CONTACT WITH THE PUPPY!!!" (These three cages out front seem to be featured dogs they want people to notice?) Well perhaps they should put the cages higher up?? She also asks a lot of personal questions and follows people around the shelter, observing/spying as they view or interact with dogs (passive agressive much?!?!). If HHS was SO concerned about disease transmission, perhaps they should not have cats roaming loose inside the shelter, or FERAL CHICKENS flying and running around all over the shelter and DRINKING from the dog water bowls. After three encounters with this person in April and May, I don't want to go back. It's hard enough to be grieving and I don't need to deal with people who seem to be judging everyone who enters the shelter. I may check out the Ewa location instead. HHS leadership: the bizarre woman at the front needs to get some training on keeping her personal issues at the door when she shows up for work. GEEZ!!!

Aloha Hawaiian Parrot Association - OMG! Cat next to bird cage. No toys! Who in the world puts birds on the floor? Looks to me , like a selling of birds operation.

    Aloha Hawaiian Parrot Association

I am so thankful for the Aloha Hawaiian Parrot Association…read more I was given a parrot several years ago from a friend who could not care for it anymore. I contacted Cinde (President) and she was at my home the next day, helping me navigate what to do, how to care for a parrot and signs to look for. The parrot was not well, probably had been abused/neglected in the past, and needed a vet. Cinde took time from her day to come with me and speak to the vet for me. If it had not been for Cinde, I don't know if my parrot would have survived. I was not even a member at the time! All Cinde cared about was that the parrot would be okay and that I was committed to taking care of my new bird. Cinde would have even tried to find a home for her if I didn't want to keep her. Needless to say, I became a member right away and am extremely grateful to Cinde and the Association for all of the support over the past few years.

My regular bird sitter left to the mainland so i was so worried on finding who can take care of them and since they are spoiled, i knew i had to find the right person. John and his family are wonderful people! He even send me pictures and videos of my babies cheating on me with them but at least i was happy they were comfortable at his home. Here some tips: -Cash only, paid when you drop them at his home -he will require the cages to be super clean so i had to just buy 2 new ones to make it easier. Overall, this means i can travel more since i have found the perfect bird sitter!

Oahu Bird Sitter, situated in East Oahu, provides a very caring home environment for your pet bird…read more They provided outstanding lodging for our two cockatiels while we were away on travel. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! GENERAL: Other lodging residents are always other birds, and they lodge according to a strict capacity so as to never overwhelm them while being guests. The family partakes in the bird sitting which means your pet bird(s) is(are) experiencing a daily routine that can closely approximate her/his typical living conditions, and that there is social interaction. AVAILABILITY: We were fortunate to find an opening with them on but a week's notice. I would not recommend waiting that late; there are more bird owners on-island than you might expect, and I would surmise that many of these bird owners occasionally travel. PRICING: Costs are by the day or partial day, and with tons of flexibility for drop-off and pick-up. The sitters to report in to you daily, and you are notified of any behavior not considered to be normal. There seemed to be a weekly rate versus a daily rate, and there was a volume discount (more than one bird). LOGISTICS: You must provide their original cage and food. Their normal toys help, too. You must also provide instructions on feeding amounts and intervals, any guidance on specific food preparation, and on medicine if any of your fowl are on a med. If you cover your cage then bring that cover, too. PREPARATION: If you transport your birds occasionally then you know that preparing a bird for a "drive" is unsettling for them. Do your normal routine for them to minimize stress to your birds in transit. For any bird sitter we always clip their wings. Your bird sitter should never have to be climbing up on 15 foot ladders to recover an escaped and frazzled bird. ADJUSTMENT: Our birds took about 3 days to completely normalize, start doing their normal chatter or song/calls. It varies by bird. LOCATION: Being in East Oahu it can be a long drive if you are coming from anywhere outside a Honolulu address. So factor that into your decision. We found the family to be the nicest folks. We hope you will find them to be the same.
