We do not recommend Meghan / Reach for the stars dog training. Cheap? Yes. Follows their own…read morecontract? No. Reliable? No. Professional? No. Honest? No. Go anywhere else, don't waste your time or money here. Upon leaving this review, I was also contacted by Meghan who, once again, made empty promises of a refund only to later be blocked from her page on the day of agreed meeting. After reading the positive reviews, we were so excited to hire Meghan to train our new puppy. After discussing our goals, availability, and making plans to move forward, we paid and anxiously awaited her arrival the following Sunday. On Saturday evening she asked if we were comfortable with the anticipated windy Sunday or if we wanted to reschedule. We were not worried about the wind as we would be indoors for the introduction / first session. Unfortunately, Meghan never replied to the conversation to confirm or deny the appointment. We waited for her arrival but she never showed. After the appointment time had passed, we reached out to her in hopes of setting another appointment in upcoming week. She was very short with the conversation left us wondering what to expect as she stopped replying until we reached out AGAIN for confirmation. The next appointment scheduled for the next day at 1:30pm. At 12:36, Meghan texted and said she would be late. She asked again if we wanted to reschedule, we said we wanted to continue with the appointment and would work around other plans due to her late arrival. Once Meghan finally arrived, she showed potential as she worked with our puppy and educated us on training techniques, however, she also seemed very distracted in her cell phone. At the end of the appointment we talked about the process of filing papers to provide our dog with the type of training we purchased, she talked about her puppy classes and invited us to join, and she offered to email material for training. We know life can be unpredictable and decided to disregarded her previous unprofessionalism and happily scheduled our next visit. The day of our scheduled appointment came and Meghan didn't show. We reached out to ask if she was still coming and she attempted to reschedule. The availability we agreed on upon hiring Meghan was very clear due to work and our child's health conditions that required many doctor appointments. We expressed our willingness to wait if she needed to come later than scheduled as we weren't available again that week. Meghan didn't show up, again. By this point we were three weeks in and had only one completed session that Meghan suggested to reschedule and arrived late. The lack of effective communication, accountability, and effort took its toll as our puppy was growing bigger (we emphasized the importance and urgency of her training to accomplish safe behaviors around our disabled child) and we were constantly being let down. We told Meghan we wanted to cancel her "services" and refunded. She was defensive and referred to the contract that stated a refund would take up to 14 business days. We are currently on 22 |business days| and have not yet received a refund. We asked for a confirmation or ANYTHING showing that it is being processed, however Meghan continues to give reasons why it hasn't gone through or simply ignores us. I'd give negative stars if it were an option. She will also contact you upon leaving a review of your experiences and not only yell at you but threaten to take you to court.

Angels of Assisi - Boxes of cats waking up from surgery

My primary care provider actually recommended adopting a cat to help manage my anxiety, and my cat has truly been a source of comfort for me. Unfortunately, a recent visit to AoA was extremely distressing. During the visit, a staff member accidentally dropped my cat's carrier, causing it to crack open. My cat escaped and ran down an embankment, eventually hiding along the side of the building. The staff member attributed the incident to a "faulty carrier," though the situation could have been avoided with more care. While several staff members and patrons assisted in trying to recover my cat, the situation escalated further when a dog attacked one of the staff members during the rescue attempt. Thankfully, with the help of other patrons, I was eventually able to recover my cat. The entire experience was frightening and emotionally overwhelming. What made this worse was how the situation was handled afterward. Despite everything that occurred, AoA attempted to charge me $30 for the visit. When I asked the Practice Manager, Allyson Joyce, whether I could be made whole given what had just happened, I was accused of trying to get a "free" visit. I was also told not to return. During this exchange, Ms. Joyce stated, "I bought my dogs," even though I do not own any dogs. When I later contacted the Director, Lisa O'Neill, I was met with the same accusation. I made it clear to both individuals that I do not have dogs and expressed concern over being misidentified and blamed in a situation where I had done nothing wrong. Instead of accountability or compassion following a traumatic incident, I felt dismissed and scapegoated. I adopted my cat from AoA with gratitude and good intentions, but this experience left me deeply disappointed. I believe organizations like this should prioritize safety, empathy, and accountability--especially when a pet owner and animal are put at risk. I'm sharing this review to keep the community informed and to encourage better practices in the future.

Brought my cat here for an exam and a dental. First impressions were not great. The entire place…read moresmells so strongly of urine and is very run down and dirty. I was told I was not allowed to go into the exam room with her and I was not able to speak with the actual vet at all. I have no idea who was with my cat or where she went which I am not 100% comfortable with. I knew she would likely have to get a dental done because her teeth weren't looking great. A girl with a clipboard said they require blood work 2 weeks before the exam and I said ok but then came back and said I could do it right that second and be in the next week or else I'd have to wait until July. I asked if I could get a price estimate because they aren't cheap. They gave me a range of $300-$1200 and could not narrow it down at all. I asked if I could have a minute to consider it and figure out how to pay for everything and she said yes but came back within 2 minutes and told me I had to make my choice. They do not offer payment plans and they don't take pet insurance. I agreed to have it done because it seemed like I didn't really have another choice. Day of, I dropped my cat off for her dental at 8 am (drop off is between 7:30 and 8:30) and they told me to come back around 5 and that she would probably be done earlier. I got there at 5:15 and my cat was not done. They bring all of the cats into the waiting room and put them on a shelf or on the floor in carriers next to each other. From what I overheard most of them were feral/ strays that had been dropped off for spay/neuters and then would be picked up again. My cat has lived indoors her entire life and has not been around others and I don't love that they just put them all together within sneezing and touching distance. That didn't even really matter though because she was not ready until after 6, so I waited an extra hour on top of driving 45 minutes there. When she was finally brought out to me, I still had to wait for them to finish doing all of the paperwork, to pay, and to get her medications and aftercare instructions. Then they told me the price which was fair. They trimmed her nails and did a more thorough exam while she was under which was nice. They gave me 2 medications but did not tell me how to give them to her or when and told me to read the instructions in the box which are not the most straightforward. When I got in the car I looked more closely at my cat and her neck and face were wet and there was blood on her chest. It would have been nice for them to have cleaned that off during the 10 hours that they had her. I appreciate that they're a charity and they do a lot of good for the community but overall it just was not a good experience for me and I have no idea how my cat was treated at any point. I cannot say that I recommend this place or will be coming back and it might be worth it to just pay a little more taking your pets somewhere else for yours and their sake.

We had no major issues with communication and skill of grooming. I used her several times. Appointments were filled up quick. I had an appointment on Father's Day, since she was scheduled. Well, she called in sick a few hours prior to my appointment... unknown if really sick or not, but I could've made an appointment with other groomers, and I was disappointed. Then I made appointment with Kim J., and bad vibes immediately with ways that she communicated. She's from Northern Va... Let me say, that I have used many groomers before, and they always treat my pack kindly and gently. First off, the "helper" took my boy's harness and leash off, and gave back to me. THEN, the helper put a noose around my pup's neck and drug him back in the back room, like she was herding a head of wild cattle. I was furious, and I felt like taking my boy home and forget this groom, and even pay the cancel charge. It would've been worth it. Well he got in the back room, and copped an attitude. Who wouldn't??? So, when I got the bill, I had an up-charge of an extra $10, due to the fact my boy tried to bite her. The extra $10 was worth it, because they should've treated my boy better. Again, when they were bringing my baby back to me, they had the noose tight around his body. I voiced my anger in them not using the harness and leash, and the Northern VA "person" argued with me saying the noose was not around his neck. Well, the first time it was. When I was leaving, I apologized to my precious for bringing him to PetSmart, Franklin Road in the first place. I will not be using them no more. The groom was okay, but they do not handle my pack like they need to be treated.
