Hadn't changed in any way other than this time we were served by a lovely Scottish 'lass'. Service was, as expected, brilliant. Food, not necessary to say, but excellent. Only one down in that the coffee machine was kaput. Now that is a real let down in an Italian restaurant. However, a lovely first evening for us in Scotland. Makes me wish we were still there.

Giancarlo's opened before Christmas and I have to say I was sceptical as Tranent wouldn't be my choice of location for a smart family Italian restaurant. My partner and I decided to go for lunch and were instantly impressed. Service was fab, so friendly and made you feel at home, typical Italian welcome which I love. The atmosphere was relaxed, the restaurant itself is decorated beautifully and so clean! Love the huge woodfired oven and the fact you can watch the chefs do their magic! And oh the food, I came expecting not much and had that wonderful experience of being completely wrong!! They have a lunch deal, two courses for £10. We had mussels to start, fantastic portion size, delicious cream and white wine sauce and plenty of bread. I then had a margarita pizza, just fancied it and I know it's the boring option but honestly this was the best one I've had in Scotland. Delicious fresh dough base and the tomato sauce was just to die for, so flavoursome and to top it all off, proper buffalo mozzarella, generously heaped on top and cooked to perfection! For me this is pizza heaven. Looking around the rest of their menu seems not to disappoint and I can't wait to go back and try some pasta and pretty much everything else!!!! If you find yourself in this neck of the woods then this place is a must! Delizioso!!

The patio is covered, and we pushed a button at our table that turned on the heat on a timer. I hear they also have blankets, plus they have some cool igloo-like things for seating. But even without these huge outdoor dining plusses, the food is stellar. Their Neapolitan pizza was the real deal and the best of our 2 1/2 week trip to the UK. We had the cheese and basil pie, and it had good sauce, cheese, and crust. The servers were nice too. I still wonder though: what does the UK call the distinctive wooden camping chairs that Americans call Adirondack chairs and Canadians call Muskoka chairs? I really hope they have their own cool name.

I would not recommend this pizza spot…read more We were looking for some quick takeout nearby. They were fast and we were able to get it delivered. Not a bad option, but I was just disappointed in a few things so I don't think we'll return. First, lots of burning on the crust. I'm happy with some char, but burnt pizza makes me feel like I'm not getting what I pay for. The toppings were minimal and haphazardly added, but that's a small note. The sauce is decent, but for a thin crust, it was incredibly flimsy. A bit soggy. Good, crisp pizza should hold its shape when you lift it up! I think the oven is maybe too hot? Or they aren't rotating the pizzas? Because it's burning on the edge but not fully cooked on the bottom. I'm also confused on the mozzarella stick dipping sauce. Marinara is what you would expect, but this is a garlic aoli... so basically just mayo. Garlic was not strong. It wasn't horrid, but not great, and it's a weird combo. THOUGH, I will add the mozzarella sticks were beautifully crispy and the breading was nice and thin. I really liked the mozzarella sticks themselves. Overall, I would unfortunately not recommend this location.
