Topkapi is a Turkish Restaurant and Takeaway…read more I've only ever had takeaway from here, but can say it's the best Kebab I've enjoyed in Fife. The Owner and Head Chef, Murat, has been cooking Turkish food for over 25 years and that experience really comes through in the flavour of the dishes. Assisted by another friendly face in Ali, they give you the feeling that nothing is too much trouble and that they enjoy preparing food for you. So far I've tried the large Lamb Shish and Kofte mixed Kebab, which was both substantial and delicious. Tender meat, lightly spiced in the case of the Kofte with crisp salad, sauces and fresh pitta. I've also had the Lamb Sauté. This is a saucy, tomato based dish with slow cooked diced Lamb and served with a seeded bread that is like a cross between Naan and Ciabatta. My apologies for not knowing the name of it prior to the review. Again this was lovely but, if you are ordering this, please remember it is a sauce based dish so not a kebab. With that expectation, you should enjoy it very much. Having only discovered this place relatively recently, I've been three times already !!! Good food and friendly service will do that to you though :-)

It was around 2:30 and he was was just working on opening but welcomed us in and fed us enough food for 3 people and it was delicious. Definitely recommend and such a welcome change from the bar food that is mostly prevalent throughout the country.

Please note that this review comes from a Canadian, globe trotting, food lover!…read more What a quaint, casual little family run restaurant. We walked-in for dinner just after opening around 5:30. Three tables were already taken and reservations are encouraged but we were accommodated with the condition of leaving by a certain time. We had hummus, lentil soup and chicken shish! The hummus had the perfect texture with a garlicky, tangy finish. The soup and chicken were good with very slight Turkish seasoning and fresh. We were presented the red "hot" sauce that was equivalent to a mild blended picco de gallo. (Minus the cilantro and onion) Overall an average meal at a very reasonable price.

Now, I absolutely love borek, after having it for breakfast in Albania- so I had some of that- it was lovely. Also baklava is one of my favourite things, so that happened too- also great. Top marks for the hummus too. I kind of wished we'd got loads of small plates and picked and shared, but my companion here isn't a sharer (I know, why are we still friends? I don't know either), so I had moussaka- which always risks being sloppy, but it wasn't at all. Lovely staff to boot too.

I will be back time and time again! My biggest problem when I eat out is that I generally wanna eat everything!! Which is why I love tapas, mezze and sharing platters - you really can sample it all in Pera - we opted for the cold mezze to share and the mixed hot mezze and hoped we'd still have room to share the lamb kofte - but we really didn't - next time! Pera is a very relaxed place, it's interior is simple and understated, small in size so i'd recommend making a booking esp if you are more than 4 people. The kitchen looks tiny, and it's a little odd when you go to the bathroom - but what it lacks in polished style and grandeur it really does make up for in flavours! Plenty to choose from and loads of vegetarian options - feels like authentic Turkish cuisine - probably the best humous I have ever tasted! And such combinations of so many herbs and spices - sensational! Everything just bursting with flavour and colour - just wish I could've eaten more!! It is also open for breakfast and lunch and I noticed they have specials till 5pm (£8.95 for 2 courses) Will definitely be back - next time with elasticated trousers!!

This is my first review so.......I live 2 minutes from The Agacan and since i usually visit Turkey…read moreat least once a year, i thought i would try this place. The Agacan is a well known restaurant having been established in Dundee for many years. Its a small restaurant with not many covers, however they do sell takeaways, quite a lot! This makes the entrance to the place very cramped and quite difficult at times and usually by 7pm or 8pm they will have sold out of doner kebab. My last order was the Adana Kebab £12ish, having loved this in Turkey i thought i would here. I ordered the takeaway and was told they dont usually do the specials as takeaway but will do this time because it was quiet. Always a friendly welcome, the kitchen is so small there is a hive of activity, smells were delicious, paid, got my food and away. When i opened the container, the Adana kebab was more like a thin version of a kofte, sliced down the middle, sitting on a bed of a squared pitta bread and chilli sauce, a portion of rice, portion of salad and another pitta. I felt the meat was overcooked, quite dry and for the price..........well overpriced. I couldnt fault the salad or rice, i dont think the pitta's were hand made and i was left with a disappointed taste in my mouth. I would recommend trying the place but not if your searching for that real turkish authenticity, the meats are ok, but bulked with pitta, rice and salad.

I would go for lamb, but dont really like it, however people in my group have had the doner, kofte and sis kebab meat and have raved about it. Portions are brilliant and its the only place I know where you can get a takeaway from and it will look exactly the same in your house as it would in the restuarant. Staff are friendly. Its a wee bit pricey but the quality of the food will soon help you forget! Its quite small but to be fair that adds to the experience and you kind of feel privilidged to get a seat in the place! You can also watch your food being made as everything is out in the open. We have walked in a few times but youre safer to book in advance, especially if you are taking more than 4 people. Menu can be found here for takeaway - http://www.dundee-takeaways.co.uk/agacan.php Cannot reccommend this place enough! Go!
