Recently purchased an Evergreen colored felt hat in 10x quality just after start of felt season. Got it shaped with a classic Cattlemen crown along with a JB brim. Just like the straw I got, I have been admiring the handywork of the hat shapers there. I took a risk by ordering an unconventional color but the green looks great in different lighting and compliments just about every shirt I wear with it. Depending on the lighting it looks between gray, black, and green. A versatile and good looking hat that I plan on keeping for a while. American Hats for whatever reason tend to run small in felts, so order the next size up that you would wear with the straw. These hats ain't cheap so be prepared to drop quite a bit of money. We visited here for my husbands birthday last Saturday. This is THE place to go for your hat. First you choose from the wall, my husband chose a gray felt, and then one of the men that work there will bring a fresh one in a box in your size. After that you wait for a barstool to open up and you take it the the counter to be shaped. There's a handy book on the counter for you to choose your pinch style and brim style and you can watch as they custom shape your hat to your specifications. They will make it exactly to your head so it sits right. I told my husband to just get the style that makes him look like Kevin Costner heh. You can grab a beer from the big green cooler & a koozie. Make sure you tip your hat shaper. This is their craft and it's a major reason you came here. They offer a huge selection of felt and straw. He needed a felt even though we were about to start straw season, he loves the straw he already has. For other amateurs like me- the 20x 40x 1000x has to do with the blend of fur in a felt hat. For example the 20x may have beaver, the 1000x have mink and that will affect the price. Price wise, his straw ran around $200, the felt (40x) ran around $700 read more

Misleading name. Purchased a straw hat back in June. Was hesitant about the choice, a 4 1/4 rim on me, a 5'4 gal was questionable but the experts assured me that was what I needed to get. As soon as I returned to my hotel I knew it wasn't right, a expensive mistake btw ($243). We planned to stop there the next day on our way out of town to exchange. Unfortunately we found that they were closed on Sundays. We continued on home a little over 4 hours away. I had hoped that I'd be able to make it work, but it just looked like a sombrero on me. While I know that I should have reached out sooner, I figured that a perk of shopping with a smaller business would be that they would have great customer service and surely honor a reasonable request although technically outside of their "return period" of 30 days. I reached out asking if I could exchange for a smaller brim. I'd cover shipping costs of my UNWORN hat that I am certain that they still carry. I was met with definitive, our return policy is 30 days.... Something I understood but those polices are intended to protect a business from someone trying to take advantage, and not all circumstances are black and white. My nearly 20 years in customer service has me in disbelief over these sort of decisions. It's so easy for you to do something like this and have a customer for life vs not doing it and losing one. Just disappointing. The selection was nice and the service while there was good although I was pressured into a $243 hat that collects dust. So if you are looking for great service this is probably not for you. Hard to find these days I guess. read more

Landed in DFW and had a few hours to kill. Decided on Fort Worth and the old cowboy town just north of downtown as my destination. Really glad I did as I ended up meeting nice, hospitable locals that were generously helpful answering questions. I was guided to Best Hat Store for a western hat. Really neat shop with friendly cowboys attending to customers. It took me a while to decide on styles and once I did it was time to watch the artist custom fit and hand mold my hat into the brim and crease style I desired. What an art! Been to the store three times each time left there feeling like something was off. I will not darken their door again, the salesmen disregard you if you dont want a hat. I bought a belt! They have some nice solid leather belts. The cashier never looked up one time, I asked for a military discount which he gave, not a word out of his mouth, not a thank you for your service not a thank you for your business . Nothing I spent 27 years of 30 as a Special Forces Operator, defending this great Nation. When I speak to a man I look him in the eyes. Cashier never once looked up. Yelp reviews for The Best Hat Store are very polarized. People either love or hate the place. Put me firmly on the side of love. I've been trying to find a cowboy hat that fits my (large) head for my whole adult life. I've bought a few, none have fit well and have been relegated to my local landfill. I figured I'd give this place a try when in Ft Worth based on the good reviews. Hey, if the people are jerks I can leave. I was warmly greeted and all my stupid questions were politely and patiently addressed. They didn't make fun of my large noggin, worked with me to find a hat size that works, and shaped/ fitted the hat perfectly! Shout out to Kate who helped me find the right hat and Cole who shaped the hat and instructed me how to care for it. They were both top notch. Finally, a few words on the bad reviews: My theory is that the people at The Best Hat Store don't suffer fools. I bet they see tourists who have been drinking and buying touristy crap down the street from a mile away and don't pay them much attention. Got a hat from there last year for Christmas, my dream "cowboy" hat. I noticed the brim was crooked, the whole brim was actually formed crooked from the crown. I took it to them to fix it, expecting to pay to get it fixed (even though it was a $600 hat) When I walked in there were 3 employees standing around, only one said hi. I explained the deal and he asked one of the other employees to assist me. I walked to the steaming counter and the employee didn't say one word to me, never took his toothpick out of his mouth. I explained to him what was going on with the hat, he took the hat from me, still hasn't said a word, and he puts the hat on the steamer for 10seconds than bends the brim around a couple times, then handed the hat back to me, still hasn't said a dang word to me. I explained that he didn't fix anything, he just bent the brim. He proceeded to take the hat from me again, STILL DIDNT SAY A WORD TO ME, and did the same process he just did. Obviously annoyed at this point, I took my hat to a different store (Jobes Hats), and they actually fixed it. The guy never said anything to me, which is extremely disrespectful and not a good business model. I'm not a tourist (lived in Fort Worth for 15+ years, and I'm originally from west Texas), nor was this my first "cowboy" hat (I did buy a staw hat from them a few years ago and was actually treated like a customer then (why I gave them 2 stars)and multiple hats from other stores. People making excuses for crappy customer service need to stick to their own experience. after this last visit, something needs to change with this store read more

If I could give my experience lower than 1 star, I would. I've never purchased a hat from the Best Hat Store, but thought I would give it a chance since my friends and I were in town for a rodeo. A staff member named Raul offered me assistance and I was completely pleased with how friendly and willing to help he was. He was the only reason I continued with my purchase. Once I found a couple hats I was deciding between, another hat shaper, Jace(?), started to assist. When I found the hat I wanted, he told me it was the wrong choice then proceeded to say "I've only been shaping hats my whole life, but what do I know?". Additionally, when he was drinking a beer behind the counter, one of my friends asked if The Best Hat store served beer to customers. He said no and continued drinking in front of us. My friend asked if he was allowed to drink on the job, he said no, and continued drinking his beer. 3/5 friends I was with suggested that we leave because everyone was so frustrated with the service we were getting. If I knew that the usual hat store I purchased hats through had the type of hat I was buying in stock, I would've walked out immediately. The girls at the check-out counter were too busy on their phones to see if I was ready when standing in front of the desk. Did I mention we were the only customers in the store? It was two hours before closing time, so excuses of busy-ness are not applicable. All of the people I was with was astonished that I went through with my purchase, and even later someone suggested I return the hat that I purchased. As someone who works in the customer service industry, I was honestly appalled by the atmosphere at the Best Hat Store and the way we were treated. After reading other reviews of people stating that no one is friendly to them unless they are a big name in the rodeo / cattle industry, it completely makes sense. I should have listened to the reviews. I spent almost $1k in there over the weekend when I should have walked out. The entire Best Hat experience was just odd. The the sales guy with the neck tattoo was the only helpful person. The older lady working the cashiers desk had nothing but side eye glances and the help at the shapers counter was absent with our guy saying maybe 5 words. I left there and called a different store to fix the crooked crown, uncentered brim shape and front. (I said "it looks good" just to get out of there.) Came here while walking in the Stock Yards. Was looking at Western Wear. Looked around for a hat. First thing is this a real hat store.came here after reading reviews. Was greeted by big smiles. We shown different style hats and types of hats. X number was explained in details. Hat construction was described to us. We were told about hat care and bending methods. Came in for one hat and a young man Mr. Savoy ended up bending and fitting two hats for me and my Sweetie this day. My Sweetie had never owned her own Cowboy hat but she owns one now. The took time to show us hat care. We talked with several regular customers who will only come here for hats or have it reshaped. The staff is wonderful about fitting the right hat for you. I have never been anywhere that would spend the time to make sure you get what you really wanted. Hats are American made!
