The Wandering Llamas - Chocolate Moose and Giraffybear

    The Wandering Llamas

My wife stumbled across Wandering Llamas while researching things to do during our annual spring…read morebreak adventure. We spent two nights in the fox den treehouse which is located in one of the llama pasture areas. The "treehouse" is a elevated wooden shed like structure that has been refurbished into a pleasant little hideaway in the Smoky's. The treehouse has a nice deck to sit and enjoy the mountain view. There's also a nice swing chair and firepit to enjoy as well. The treehouse has electricity with a small electric heater to take the chill out. The treehouse was very clean and the bed unbelievably comfortable. The treehouse is a one and only. If you are renting here you have the treehouse and llamas all to yourself. The property owner and host (Sandy) lives on the property and is available if you are in need of anything. Sandy is very personable and will spend time sharing of herself with her guests. On the llama walk each person usually gets there own llama to walk with. Sandy accompanies you and can answer any llama related question you may have. The walk is at a very leisurely pace and lasts about two hours. The llamas are easy to walk and well behaved. Contrary to popular opinion of some the llamas did not spit at one another. One thing to be aware of if staying in the treehouse is there is no running water and only a fancy bucket of a toilet in an outhouse under the treehouse. This didn't bother us, but for some that don't care for "roughing it" I could see it as a drawback. (There is a gas station about a mile away that we used the bathroom at. We are members of the YMCA at home. There's a Y a few miles away and with the Y reciprocity program we were able to go there to take a hot shower. The Wandering Llama was an awesome get away experience for us and Sandy is a great host. We appreciate her sharing her llamas.

A super fun, unique outing if you are spending time in the Smoky Mountains, about a 1.5 hour drive…read morefrom our cabin in Sevierville. We booked the 2-hour wine and cheese tour because it was the only tour that had open spots left (we booked about a week ahead). We skipped the wine and cheese part due to our concerns about COVID (the food is served in their open gazebo, so it's relatively safe - we just prefer taking extra precautions and had already eaten lunch just before we got there), but the llama hike alone was well worth it. The walk, about 1.5 hours total time, is along the gravel road, which is a little hilly, but manageable if you're fit (not so much if you have small kids that don't do a lot of walking). Most of the time was spent relaxing in an open field - very socially distant from the other eight people in our group - where we fed the llamas and took lots of pictures. The llamas are super friendly and so soft! Though Sandy (the owner) provides animal crackers and strawberries for the llamas to enjoy during the middle of the hike, definitely bring your own -- we brought graham crackers and sliced apples to feed them throughout the walk, and the llamas LOVE to eat! Sandy is very friendly and welcoming and took pictures of everyone during the hike, which she emailed to us later. A great highlight of our trip!

The next year we had problems with so many things including no running water for the entire time we were in one of the cabins, problems with the kitchen appliances and other things. What we realized was they were not maintaining the property and things were not getting maintained or repaired. In addition, they substantially raided their prices. As much as we liked the setting, we decided to find another place for our annual event.

We held our wedding here and our guests occupied all five cabins that Steve and Joy Powell have listed. The cabins themselves are gorgeous, every one we visited was grander than the next. They are furnished well, have plenty of supplies for cooking and cleaning (to make your stay mostly worry-free!) and the beds were actually really comfortable! I cannot say enough good things about Steve and how he accommodated every request we had to make the wedding venue absolutely perfect and ensure our guests had a wonderful stay. For the price per cabin, you really cannot find a better deal. Memory Mountain at Wolf Laurel is quiet, serene, and simply breath-taking. Now, with all of this being said, a word to the wise: this is a very do-it-yourself vacation or venue. If you're not willing to set up your space (i.e. bringing your own food to cook; moving indoor and/or outdoor furniture to create the perfect event space) then this place is not for you! If you have a vision, help from others staying on site, and time, then do yourself a huge favor and BOOK. You won't regret it. I only wish we could have spent more time here - three nights simply wasn't enough to enjoy everything (hiking, fishing, swimming, etc) that this amazing place has to offer! Thank you Steve and Joy! Broadwing Farm

I'm primarily writing a review of Broadwing Farm as a wedding venue, although i have stayed in the…read morecabins many times over the weekend or during the week as a guest. My cabin stays were good except for the bed being extremely uncomfortable. The mattress was ancient and we stayed there so regularly, once a season, that we offered Broadwing Farm an unused mattress topper in hopes it would help which they declined. As far as the wedding venue, we had a very bad experience. I should never have had my wedding here due to the lack of basic infrastructure like running water and refrigeration and the fact that once we had paid the venue it was extremely difficult to get a hold of Gio the owner of the wedding venue or Shyanne the land manager to plan the wedding details. They did not get back to me in a timely manner and made it difficult for us to even see the venue to plan. The lack of infrastructure resulted in the catering being a disaster. Also, there were rules that were never disclosed until the weekend of the wedding. Then they were written in a book somewhere that my guests were supposed to read which was unreasonable for members of a wedding party preparing for a wedding. We had specifically rented the wedding venue, including the barn chapel and both of the available cabins, for myself and my fiancee and immediate family which were in the wedding including my mother, her husband and my sister. Others in the wedding party stayed at the Hot springs Resort downtown Hot springs. Part of the reason we choose this venue is because we wanted to do a soak together in the hot tubs. However, at the last minute Shyanne left a message on my phone on Friday, which i did not receive in all the busyness of getting ready for my wedding, that we were not allowed to have anyone over to our cabin even the wedding party. My mother had my 2 brothers who were in the wedding and staying at the Hot Springs Resort downtown Hot Springs over that evening and they were soaking when Shyanne showed up with a flashlight at night at there cabin and hot tub which surprised and scared them and felt to them like a violation of privacy, especially since the rules had not been communicated clearly to them or me. The day of the wedding was total chaos since Gio, who had agreed to move and set up chairs for us, was no where to be found. The barn was a mess from things from previous events and i had to clean it up in my wedding dress and makeup while all my wedding vendors were arriving since no one else from Broadwing Farm was around to do it. What i didn't realize when booking this venue was how inexperienced they really were. It seems like they had had one other local wedding that had turned into a huge party and gotten out of hand and they were jaded as a result. I was told that Shyanne could serve as the day of wedding coordinator and although she tried her best her inexperience showed. At the reception with an open bar a couple of my family members got drunk and belligerent and Shyanne was arguing with them after she had already made a poor first impression with the flashlight the night before. At the end of the night after my husband and i had retired to our cabin, my brother and his girlfriend who were drunk came back to the venue to look for a missing phone and they were told they could not look for it and had to leave the property immediately. Apparently there was a verbal altercation and my brother was pushed physically by the owner of the land. My brother is not a violent person and did not fight back physically. In fact, he has never had any altercations with anyone before or since. Even though he left the premises the owner of the land called the local police and had him arrested and put in jail which apparently the owner of the land could do since he knows the local police. The charges were dropped in the morning after my brother spent the night in the local jail. I believe my brother was being belligerent and i was upset with a couple of my family members for there behavior. I also i don't believe that the hot springs owner handled the situation appropriately. My brother is half hispanic and looks hispanic and i believe this played into how he was treated. The next day i felt blamed by Shyanne for the behavior of these two family members. I believe that as a wedding venue Broadwing Farms should be able to handle belligerent drunk people without resorting to physical violence. My overall experience was that they wanted our money but did not want to deliver value or deal with non locals. I never saw Gio the entire weekend and never received an apology from him or anone else at Broadwing Farm. Sadly, i have not felt comfortable to stay at Broadwing farms again as a guest and would not recommend them as a wedding venue if you want to have a good experience at your own wedding. I sincerely hope this post helps someone have a better wedding day and weekend than i did.

This is such a cute little venue! I attended a Yelp Elite…read moreparty here a week back and had an excellent time. I never knew this event space even existed! I was told that renting it out on a weekday is super reasonable- only $65 an hour. You can't beat that! I love hosting large parties at my home, but I can never fit the amount of guests that I want in my tiny little home. Anyway, the venue was set up in a beautiful way- full of antique and vintage furniture items. They have restrooms, but I'm not sure if they have a kitchen. I've been told that they will set up the room however you'd like it. When I was there, they had out three very long tables and I think there were about 50 of us. They have a few parking spaces but I was able to park in the alley to the right of the building. Not sure if that's allowed. I will DEFINITELY be planning my next big event here! What a fun place!

I have been here many times-mostly for pop up craft/art shows, once for a 20's themed birthday party and most importantly, for my own wedding rehearsal dinner. Renting the space for the rehearsal dinner was easy and the owners were super helpful and accommodating. Their contract is very clear and their prices are very, very reasonable! We had 50 people total for the event and when we arrived the night of the party, they had the space set up for us with their dining tables and lovely chairs arranged as well as a serving station and bar area. Their furniture is what makes this place so incredible really-they have absolutely beautiful mismatched furniture, vintage and rustic looking. This is the type of space that you see all over Pinterest. I recommend this place to everyone who is looking for a small event venue for a wedding or birthday party. I wish I had better photos to add to Yelp because it really is an absolutely gorgeous space!
