As…read morethe forecast grew more and more grim for that day, we had to make the decision to change venues three days before the wedding. I came across The Barn at Cornerstone and contacted Kim immediately. I was stressed and in full panic mode but as soon as I talked to her she began putting me at ease. She explained that although the Barn was not quite completed she would do anything in her power to help make this work. The day I visited her, the barn had no electricity. We talked through it and decided to rent a generator. The barn was still in progress but was already beautiful and rustic and I could envision something truly special there. Kim and her husband, Ray, worked tirelessly and two days later when we arrived to decorate and rehearse, the Barn not only had electricity but beautiful chandeliers were hung. We had a wonderful rehearsal dinner outdoors at the lodge that evening. The setting was gorgeous and the grounds were lovely. Ray continued working on the barn up until the afternoon of the wedding and Kim attended to every detail and also coordinated with my caterer. She took so much work and worry off my hands and allowed me to enjoy every moment. We ended up having the most beautiful, intimate wedding that evening. Rain fell heavy on the roof of the barn as they took their vows. It was absolutely magical. I know that once the barn is complete it will be one of the best venues around. There are beautiful venues everywhere but you will be hard pressed to find people like Kim and Ray. I cannot express my gratitude enough.

There is also an outdoor area where they had cocktail tables set up that had the round bulb, white lights strung up everywhere. The venue had a separate area for the bridal party to get ready and also had a small commercial kitchen for food prep. I don't get the impression that this farm has been offering event services for long, but I'm sure it will become a very popular place to hold weddings, showers, and company events as more people learn about it.

Internet reception very limited, A bell is rung at 7:30 am to wake you up and again for breakfast at 8 am, 12:30 lunch and 6 pm for dinner. The road to Wild Acres is very narrow, sharp curves and very winding, no guard rails, and somewhat scarry. I enjoyed myself once there but also glad to leave those narrow rural steep mountain roads. I didn't see any bears although I was told it was bear hunting season. The resort is open for April through October.

This whimsical retreat is a three-story, stone covered, storybook castle in the woods about 20…read moremiles north of Asheville, North Carolina. It is built into the hillside, so the second floor is the main entrance. Downstairs is the kitchen and living area with a delightful patio. The second floor has a large bedroom, bathroom and its own patio. The third floor is a loft with beautiful, wood-carved, queen-size bunk beds and foosball - the perfect place to stash the kids if you couldn't get away without them! The retreat is an ideal way to be "off the grid" for a weekend or full week of personal reflection, romance, fun with friends or a family retreat, but off the grid is an option since the cottage is wired with internet and satellite television. The decorator must have a great sense of humor. It is sophisticated enough to satisfy the most discriminating, but there are stuffed animals displayed like hunting trophies and peering out from cubbies. The road to the retreat is gravel covered and steep in spots. I can imagine it would require four-wheel-drive in the winter and you wouldn't want to drive a ground-hugging Ferrari at any time of the year. That ruggedness helps keep the riff-raff out to provide an incredibly quiet experience. (If your Yelp shows the Google map to the retreat location, you can see by the twisting, winding roads how far off the beaten track this respite is located!) Beefy's Retreat provides an enjoyable stay and a great chance to let your inner Maid Marian and Robin Hood run free!

We just returned from our North Carolina vacation. We experienced several highlights,but this…read more little "micro castle" , as they call it ,was the most unique. It is near Asheville but really out by itself so you feel privacy and accessibility. This is not roughing it. My Lord, they even had an Ipod Dock (which I had no idea existed) It would be a good idea if you go to bring an ATV, plenty of places to roam on the road. It is also a great place to ride bikes,hike all that stuff. We saw a ski resort at the bottom of the hill but the kids seemed to be taking the chair lift up carrying their bicycles Oh and the critter are abundant but fortunately the cute little hot tub is privately fenced. The place is small but has lots of beds. We are a couple and it was perfect small and very unique like a storybook tower in levels. We especially liked the Gratitude Tree, where we were encouraged to hang a message of what we were thankful for on this tree in the woods just outside the cabin. If you have a large family and want to spread out this may not be the place but I will be back for a hunting trip Also not easy to find but the directions were great, also back there the gravel road is king, that may require a 4WD in snow but we were there just at beginning of the leaf season which was awesome. The Asheville area was quite a pleasant surprise they call it the Paris of the South but this isn't supposed to be about that huh? Bring Food and Spirits with you. Nearest store is like 15 mins away. Quiet YES!!!
