The room was a little small but the shower was weirdly large, not like meant to be a "sexy couples" large..? Maybe like a private shower room large. Anyway, the staff was great, the room was really nice, it was safe, clean and quiet, the WiFi and TV were good. The real gem in our stay was the restaurant, Opus... pffffwow. Separate review to come on that.

Beware that their is no staff at all to help you if you need someone. Annie Marie runs the front desk part time is the rudest person i've ever encountered in hospitality. My room had both ants and bed bugs. The smoke alarm beeped all nite. I payed for 5 nite payed 3 months prior. All to surprise my fiancé for his birthday. It was a nightmare. This place takes advantage of customers and then doesn't refund them if they leave and payed in full prior. Save your money and stay at The Maxwell House or Geneva Inn. Belfry House has not once returned one call to me yet. #belfryhoushasbugs

Beautiful hotel with lovely, peaceful scenery. Just wonderful. Sparkling clean, so relaxing, and the employees were friendly and helpful.

The lack of management and response is embarrassing for the amount they charge. The update makes zero sense, dirty white walls... everything is white no northwoods feel. Definitely the worst I've had here. Our family of 12+ has been coming here basically my entire life but they have been going downhill. Yes everything costs more right now but you can't charge more for worse options and service. So here's the good. The sausage. That's it, at least for me. Sausage was very good. I don't do eggs, but the omelet bar was well received by those who ate one. Now here's the rest. Bacon was awful, bad cook and texture. No waffles!? So they always had a waffle bar here, they would make them fresh throughout service and you could top them with whatever fun toppings you wanted... last year they were pre made like everything else but at least they still had them. This year, nothing. They had pancakes at the kids table next to the mac n cheese... sigh. No breakfast potatoes!? How do you not have hashbrowns or potatoes o Brian or something? They had some whole fingerlings in a sauce with pork belly and other nonsense, it looked horrible. And it's just not what I want at brunch, just give me some simple potatoes! The dessert options were weak. A spot labeled various mousses had, in fact, only 1 type of mousse. Some of the desserts being put out were pre packaged cookies... my drink didn't come out until I was basically done eating, which admittedly wasn't too long because there was nothing worth eating anyway. This meal was 70+ bucks a head before service fees and tip. More like 100+ after that. Not worth it. At all. I really love this venue, it's very scenic and great for holiday photos and such. That said, don't brunch here. It's our family tradition but we might have to find a new one...

Really great hotel for the price. Employees are friendly and respectful. The room I stayed in (1…read morebedroom with king size bed and hot tub) was clean and well kept. I had a gout attack while I was staying here and forgot my med for it. There is a Walgreens and Dollar Tree close by but the pain on my foot was so bad that I couldn't even drive there or even walk through the store. The hotel has a convenience store but didn't have any Tylenol or Advil. I decided to ask the gentleman behind the front desk if there was any Advil in the back. He checked and came back with sample pack of Advil (2 pills) which is what I needed. The gentleman didn't even charge me. He could see I was in pain with my limping and I'm glad he could help out. Again, great hotel, great Employees and all around a great experience.

DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL! Front Desk female staff member…read morewas not friendly at all. We called the day before our arrival requesting early check-in as we were coming from out of town for a wedding. We were told to arrive at 2 o'clock so we did and the front Desk person said sorry that was wrong and our room wouldn't be ready until 4 o'clock. The wedding was at 3:00. We got dressed in a gross tiny hot public bathroom and then waited in the waiting room for a little bit before leaving for the wedding ceremony. Three or four other groups of people came in after us. They said they were also told to arrive by 2 o'clock by a gentleman when they called the day before. Some also had to get dressed in the public bathrooms. All of a sudden, a woman that was told they had to wait to check in at 4 o'clock went up again to the front desk and the front desk receptionist told her her room was ready. She arrived 30 minutes after we did. She at least let us check in and get our key so when we came back later after the reception, could just go up to our room. The room was clean. But breakfast was disgusting! Watery eggs, some sketchy looking biscuits and gravy and waffles. Waffles were the only thing somewhat edible. The rule cost $239 for one night. We found out later, we could've stayed at the beautiful Lake Lawn resort where the wedding was and had a beautiful room with much more amenities and on the lake for about the same price. Not being allowed to check in early due to housekeeping, having to clean rooms is expected however, the person could've been a lot nicer about it and gave the exact same type of room to another person that arrived 30 minutes after we did requesting early check-in. And do better with your breakfast if you're going to charge that much for a basic hotel.

We enjoyed it there was a balcony outside but that balcony rail is absolutely loose it seems like a liability waiting to happen. There's plenty of tourists here and a lot of people will act like they forgot how to park or they expect top notch privilege which will make going up to the front desk a giant pain upon arrive . If you see a parking spot near the front just take it and walk in and check in . Some of the amenities are pretty cool but I do feel like this place was a bit overrated for the time being. This place felt very outdated as well but this place can be pretty much dead at certain times of the year. The breakfast here is solid but it is absolutely expensive if you go for the Continental package. They charged me $54 and it wasn't even all that good it's probably worth $30 at best. If I knew it was going to be that expensive and underwhelming I would have walked to the gas station and probably paid $10. I will say that there are Lobby shines bright and so does their bar. Whenever there's a party going on usually there's a lot of life going on over here. If you're going to go anywhere and not drive , I recommend taking an Uber and not a Lyft because the price difference is huge. For an expensive stay, I will lean that this place was a 2.75 star experience. So I will leave it at three stars.

I had an outstanding experience at The Abbey thanks to Illeyana--also known (and now forever…read moreremembered) as Ms. Goldfish. From the moment we walked in, her energy, attentiveness, and genuine friendliness set the tone for the entire visit. She was on top of everything--quick service, great recommendations, and always checking in without being overbearing. It's rare to find someone who makes you feel both taken care of and completely relaxed at the same time, but Illeyana nailed it. The nickname "Ms. Goldfish" fits perfectly--she kept things fun, memorable, and just a little bit legendary. If you're heading to The Abbey, do yourself a favor and ask for her. Customer service like that is hard to come by. We'll definitely be back!
