On a recent trip to Auckland, I let my local friends decide some of the best places to visit. On one of the first days in town, we went to The Beer Spot. This is a local chain of craft beer taprooms, there are around five locations as of this writing. This location is along the "Beer Mile" and easy to get to just off the main street. Parking outside is limited, and if you're doing the Beer Mile it's best to walk.
This is a cozy spot in what looks like an old garage. They have loft seating, downstairs seating inside which is open to the fresh air with large doors, plus outdoor seating with heaters for the cold weather. The bar is big and open; our bartender was super friendly and fast to assist us.
Along the left wall is the huge tap list. They have a featured brewery at any given time, which includes an array of styles. The menu is also divided by style and there's lots to choose from. It's almost exclusively New Zealand beer, so you're getting something local regardless. Prices were very reasonable for giant flights (6x 220ml glasses). My friend and I each chose six to our liking and grabbed a table that looked outside. It was a popular place. My only regret is not having the time to stop in again!
Bonus points for all the incredible artwork - each painting has its face replaced by Mr. Bean. Cheers! read more
