A good local pub/bistro right in the centre of New Lynn. There is indoor and outdoor seating and…read moresometimes there is live music. The burgers are nice and come nicely presented. The bar has most things but could offer some ports, Brandy, sherry type things especially for winter and it would be great to have the standard cocktail choices or perhaps even a mulled wine on cold nights. There is a fire place inside but the last few times I've been in it hasn't been on. It would give a nice ambience if lit. Overall a good place to meet for drinks and have a bite.

Why were the doors not closed & 'Out of Order' signs put on them?! This is disgusting! Would have left immediately but we had already ordered & paid for our Margaritas. At $19 each we were totally disappointed. Served in 2 different types of small cocktail glasses, rather than the usual Margarita tumblers, three ladies had larger drinks than the other three. Worse than that - the drinks tasted watery!!! We discussed this with the waitress who said they had started using a Margarita 'mix' over the last week & there had been other complaints. So why hadn't this been fixed already? Won't be going back. Shocking end to a great night where we had dined at the restaurant next door Mae Nam Khong - which has great food!

It's a down home local frequented by down home locals. The pub formerly known as the Cock and Bull has been taken over by the Doolan franchise, Danny Doolans anyone? So while I haven't been there in its past life, I am fully qualified to comment on it in its present state. This is a good place to come if you are dining with any fussy eaters because the menu is really of such breadth as to cater to most tastes. I had the nachos, which was a pretty huge portion and was pretty nice, not enough guacamole though people! My partner had the 600 gram steak which was the largest piece of meat I have ever seen, he took up the 'challenge' (menu states if you finish the whole meal you get a free pint) and happily gorged himself almost to the point of explosion, he did get that drink though so fair play to him. We decided to go for dessert too, which was a big letdown, sticky date pudding was dry and the caramel sauce had become granulated and not nice. The service was nice and attentive enough, though there was a bit of a delay with getting our plates cleared and our dessert order taken. Overall it was a pleasant evening out, just not really to my standards.

The renovations and facelift have done wonders for this local pub, and the changes are positive. The decor is still traditional pub style, but not so dark and dank as before, reds and dark woods prevail. The food has taken a bit of a jump up, although the Sunday roasts with Yorkshire puddings were a little bit of a letdown, as the puddings were a bit bland, but the portions were healthy and it wasn't expensive, so fair standard for pub fare. On our second visit, we weren't quite as impressed though, after ordering a steak medium rare, it arrived pretty much well done, but then that seems to be pretty standard at all restaurants around town, you have to ask for rare to get it medium! But overall, a great little local pub to enjoy a beer in the sun and some good old pub grub.

The drinks are cheap and quality, the decor is understated, and there's a 21 and over cap. Couldn't ask for more. Finding SF is only tricky if you're not paying attention, a single doorway on Wyndham that leads to an upstairs oasis. But once you arrive, you won't want to leave. I haven't been here on a Thursday or Sunday but apparently those are the nights to make and appearance (because the food is well cheap). Staff is also super nice. Spitting Feathers, you're a gem.

It's not what it was, so that's why I don't give the former business one star. Yelp needs to update this listing to show Permanently Closed. It's a sports bar, not a pub, so ... not a pub. They had Rugby League on, which is OK, but I watch Union. I ordered a Panhead Supercharger (American Pale Ale): it tasted of butterscotch (diacetyl) which should not, not, NOT be the case. I brought it up: "we just changed it". I gave a challenging look: the bartender tried it, said it was OK. Horseshit! I know my stuff and have had several of these while on vacation. It was not right. So poor quality of service. They have a large electronic gaming cave. Yuck. Not a pub. It's not Spitting Feathers anymore. Yelp needs to update the listing so that people know that the old venue is dead and gone.

I had a fantastic visit here after walking from the Auckland Zoo nearby. There are many other beer places of note nearby, so it's a fun area to explore. The brewery sits on a hill, with front windows overlooking the street and neighborhoods below; the back garage door also has great views of the sky and area around. Restrooms are at the front near the stairs, with plenty and all kept clean. This is a working brewery, with about half of the floor space large brewing kettles for the process. They also have a refrigerated selection of packaged cans and bottles ready to go. One thing that makes them unique are the tiny half cans that are packaged together with the idea that you can taste the two beers or mix them for fun cuvees. They also have merchandise for sale. The bar area is along the left wall with big tables, high tops, and comfy sofas and armchairs around. The high ceilings give a lot of natural light during the day. Their beer selection is large and includes cider and other non-beers. They have fixed beer flights or you can substitute or order your own. I tried most of the beers they had on tap that day, while avoiding things I usually don't care for. I also had their classic smash burger as by this point I had built up an appetite. Prices here are reasonable; you get to try a lot of different beers for not much. Service was great with two very friendly bartenders ready to talk about the beers and gave me some free tasters of things that didn't fit in the flights. They also have their English Pale Ale, Brixton, on hand pull, a classic serving style we don't usually see in the US. If you're visiting Auckland and a beer fan, this is a must-visit brewery and place to eat.

Having only opened in the last 6 months or so, Montage is slowly becoming a bit of a local hot spot. Deep red velvet chairs, ornate iron gates, dim lighting - the atmosphere of Montage is quite intimate and while it could be a bit threatening it is the exact opposite. In the afternoon sun it's the perfect place to sit outside and enjoy a cold drink with friends, or alternately enjoy a few shots and vodka and limes after dark. The staff are funny and friendly and make you feel right at home. When my boyfriend and I first went there, despite being inebriated to begin with, the staff were good sports and put up with our jokes and terrible dancing and even helped call us a cab. Though not a great venue if you're in the mood to dance as it's quite small, Montage is an ideal place to meet friends for a few drinks before heading to town.

These days Montage Bar appears to have the formula worked out a little better - when I went there on a sleepy Sunday afternoon, an awesome performer who worked with loops, a guitar and a saxophone was propped up near the bar and playing to the people inside and out. This is a much better set up! The drinks at Montage are great and the wines are cheap, particularly given the quality of the stuff they have there. I think having two staff members there on a Sunday afternoon was a little excessive, but by perhaps the place fills out quite a lot and I was there on a slower day.
