I visited here last night for only the second time, and it was a very good experience overall. The only two "complaints" I have are minor and one isn't really even the restaurant's fault ... After booking here for my birthday dinner, I suddenly realised that of course it's upstairs and my mother has a bad knee and I couldn't remember if there was a lift/elevator. I sent an email to restaurant and was replied to promptly and courteously saying that yes, they have a lift. Great. We go to use it to get upstairs, and some kids were playing in it going up and down and not letting us in. Their parents were oblivious to the bratty behaviour, and so she had to climb up a steep staircase. That almost set the tone for the night, but what made up for it, was the great service. Everyone was friendly and attentive. We were told of the specials for the night (which was seafood and not everyone can eat seafood - a fact not every restaurant realises), and given our menus in reasonable time. Food came out promptly and everything was delicious. Before the entrees came out, there was hot bread given to the table and it was sooooooo yum. I ordered the Fish 'n Chips for main, and fish was so incredibly white, fresh and moist; just perfect. The batter was crisp and tasty. The chips though, were less than a handful of thick wedges and we felt this may not be enough so we ordered a side bowl of shoestring fries (a way to make you fork out more money and possibly the only disappointing "fault"). Everyone enjoyed the meal they had. Desserts all sounded tempting, and the presentation when it came out was beautiful. I had asked for a component to be left out since I don't like coffee flavoured foods, and they accommodated and even came back out with a substitute suggestion. It was scrumptious. Throughout the night we were treated to a magnificent view of Melbourne city and the bay. It's a stunning location for a great celebratory meal. I know it would be even better in summer, but then again it would probably be stifling hot too. I loved going there in winter, and with the food and service being as excellent as it was, I'll definitely be going back again. They do apparently do breakfasts (and lunch?) and would love to try a breakfast there while the area isn't yet too busy. If you're looking for a great place to have a wonderful night or day out, then this is it. I highly recommend it. read more

Went for a Xmas work lunch today - it was a perfectly sunny summer day when we strolled up to the second level and were seated by the large window overlooking Port Phillip Bay. The view itself was worth it. The food was divine - I had zucchini ricotta flowers with caramelised walnuts for entree, salmon with asparagus and prosciutto for main and plenty of pinot gris. Overall, good quality food, attentive service and hypnotising view for a reasonable price. Recommend if you're in the hood. read more

This is my latest favourite restaurant in Melbourne. The food is really sensational! They have put in a great deal of effort to put their signature twist on some beautiful European classics such as beef tartare with raw quail egg and cassoulet of confit of duck. The service is excellent too. The restaurant is upstairs overlooking the Baths, hence its name. It has great views of the bay and city skyline in the not too far distance. At night the shore in front of the restaurant is lit so you can see the calm waves of the bay on the shoreline. I really can't fault this place! read more

This is a review of the restaurant which is on the first floor - The Cafe is on the ground floor and is casual. The Restaurant; Table cloths, attentive waiters, fabulous wine list (knowledgeable somellier-the bloke telling us about the wines) but THAT VIEW! A great restaurant all year round, but excells in summer. There is a deck with a Northerly aspect and views of the city. The floor to ceiling windows offer superb views of the city over the Brighton Sea Baths and the marina. For winter, there is a wood fire in the area behind the bar which, if you ask nicely, the staff will set for upto about 10 people for a semi-private and very intimate dining area in winter. There is also a private dining room for about 28 people, again with the wonderful views. The Food; Changing seasonally, the thoughful menu should have something for everybody. The kitchen has always been willing to create specials if they are given notice. For example, a group of males booked for a long lunch were treated to a magnificently braised beef cheek for the table. The chefs tasting menu has surprises. In winter a roasted chestnut soup which I would never have ordered was a real eye opener. Management; The owner/chef - Paul Raynor is a pom who worked with Paul Wilson in his early days. Eventually owning the establishment after he had previously worked there. The restaurant managers and floor staff are as good as any in this part of town. I have noted some of the previous reviews with surprise and wonder if they are reviewing the cafe or the upstairs restaurant. Must say great service great space where you are not on top of each other, great view over sea baths and not to loud given concrete floors! Cozy inside amazing coffee but failed to offer water! Had the amazing Mexican stand off for breakfast served in a pan with beans two eggs floating on top cooked to perfection and spicy choritzo sausage and sour dough! Def going back to this place be prepared meter parking! Take the camera for great pics of city skyline over the bay! read more

Few times in my life that I have been this disappointed with a business. I ordered the fish And chips (as you do when you're next to the beach) and it was stone cold with a seafood sauce thrown on the side if my plate. My aunty had the salmon and it was overlooked and served with a tomato sauce that looked like they use it for a spagetti! Then if that wasn't bad enough the service was horrid! The host was nice enough but the waiters were useless that had horrible organisational skills and frankly we're not very nice. Will not return. No matter how beautiful that spot on the beach is! Coffee Order: Made incorrectly and sent back, Second time was luke warm & undrinkable... My partners coffee was of the same standard. There was also a large coffee spillage in the saucer upon delivery and was not cleaned up - even after waitress acknowledged the mess. Service - Very slow (they were not under the pump). In totally stark contrast to the reviewer below me, I absolutely adore the restaurant at Middle Brighton Baths. (I've never visited the cafe). I've found the food to be beautiful, the staff impeccable and being born in Perth and something I grew accustomed to, amongst the only places in Melbourne you can watch the sun set over the water. I've eaten here twice; once on a weeknight with friends, and another time on the 24th of December as an immediate family Christmas dinner. Both were absolutely delightful. Perhaps I got lucky. Perhaps the previous reviewer was unlucky. Either way it'll remain a favourite for me. read more

We've loved eating at The Baths for over two years now, always great food and service - then add in the views and it becomes a really iconic Melbourne location. Our favorite time of day is arriving just before sunset to get in a drink and some eats... Watching the sunset over the bay is just sublime. Lunch, Dinner or Breakfast - all are great, it does get busy at the weekends with the doggie beach close by. read more

I brought my family to dinner here - they were visiting from overseas. Our table was magnificent, with such a marvellous double aspect view of the Bay, Brighton beach, Melbourne city lights and the entire panorama, it was fantastic. We were shown to our generous table and ordered drinks, including Sauvignon Blanc, beer, soft drink and an Espresso Martini (which was excellent). We enjoyed a Lamb pithivier with wasabi peas, Calamari stuffed with oxtail, a Whole Roasted John Dory and a Cape Grim sirloin - accompanied by confit Kipflers, Shoestring fries, Green beans and a Mixed leaf salad. Everything was served beautifully and prepared to perfection. Best of all was the excellent, informal but respectful service we received from our attentive server, Tom. His work went a long way to making our evening hugely enjoyable and we cannot speak highly enough of him and his colleagues for the marvellous support they gave us. My dad is significantly vision impaired and has difficulty with mobility, but this was not an impediment whatsoever for the restaurant staff. Although the restaurant is on the first floor up steep wooden stairs, there is an elevator for diners to use, which was very helpful. Mobility car parks are within 100 metres of the entrance and if you want to you can even reverse your car right up to the door to help passengers who need it. Biked to the restaurant for Sunday lunch. This proved to be a very disappointing experience.To start of with the positive the view is magnificent and the outdoor terrace is nice. But this is where it ends. We orderd red a Turkish bread with dips and what we got looked like a normal loaf from bakers delight. When the drinks came my partner ordered a bloody merry which was not spicy and tasted like tomato juice and vodka. We asked the waiter if we could have some spicy sauce , and they told us that they don't have spicy sauce ( makes me wounded how they can even make a bloody merry). The waiters are un attentive and the service is very slow . When the mains arrived the salmon was a bit undercooked and bland in general. The fish and chips on the other hand were decent. They also removed the bloody merry from the bill at the end.Overall it was a very disappointing experience. The food is very over priced for what it is.Would not come again. read more

We eat out at least weekly just a few comments about your restaurant. On Sunday afternoon we had a meal at your restaurant. This is the first negative review I have ever written in my years of dining and prior to posting this I did send an email to the restaurant without receiving a reply. The lamb was bland. The $55 bottle of Sav Blanc was a shocking cheap tasting wine. At Donavan's for the same amount you'd buy a bottle of Seresin which is a wonderful New Zealand Sav Blanc. The Aardvark tasted like cask wine that left a bad taste in my mouth and wallet at $55.00. You must be able to source better wine. The fries as was the lamb and sauce were very bland to say the least. In 40 years of eating out weekly I've only ever complained once before about service or food. For a $145.00 meal of which I left $150 I genuinely feel for lack of better words ripped off. It's dissapointing because you are in a great location and we've eaten dozens of times down stairs at the cafe which is fine. I hope this feedback helps. We could have had the same meal at Donovan's and your service and food and wine doesn't warrant the prices you charged. Unsurprisingly when we arrived their were only 3 other groups there. You should improve your service food and wine list and have those tables filled. read more
