I am new to the area and wanted to find a talented groomer for my two rescues, who are very different from each other. One is amiable and other terrified of her own shadow. I brought them to the Bark Shack for grooming this morning and it could not have gone better. I prefer that they NOT be in cages and was very pleased that they were not. They both hung out with the groomer until she was finished and she notified me they were ready for pick up. They were terrifically "cleaned, dried and shined" and did not seem to have any issues at all with being new to the groomer and the venue. The price was very reasonable and the groomer followed all instructions and was extremely polite and efficient. I would highly recommend for grooming! read more

*AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE!* I'm still fuming as I write this review about the absolute worst doggy daycare experience I've ever had the misfortune of encountering. My poor pup was subjected to neglect, mistreatment, and what can only be described as a chaotic, dirty nightmare. From the moment we walked in, I knew something was off. The staff seemed apathetic, the facilities were filthy, and the smell was overwhelming. But I gave them the benefit of the doubt, thinking maybe it was just a bad day. The real horror show began when I picked up my dog. He was shaking, whimpering, and covered in dirt and stains. The staff had the nerve to tell me he was "just being dramatic" and that he had a great time. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Further investigation revealed that my dog was left in a cramped, unsanitary enclosure with no supervision, and the staff seemed more interested in scrolling through their phones than caring for the animals in their charge. The final straw was when I saw photos of the daycare's "activities" on social media, and my dog was clearly visible, cowering in the corner, while other dogs were jumping on top of him. UNACCEPTABLE. I demand better for my pet. I demand better from any business that claims to care for animals. If you value your pet's safety, well-being, and happiness, STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. *UPDATE:* I've since spoken to the management, and they're trying to sweep this under the rug. I really wanted this to have worked out. Normally I take my pup to the Bluffton park but lately with the rain the mud has been a huge chore to get out of his fur so decided to take my 7 month for the first time to have a four hour play session to give it a test run. Prior to putting him in a group they are assessed to figure the best fit. - atmosphere is very laid back and overall fairly clean - groups we were told don't exceed 10 dogs and all are grouped based on size, age and temperament - price for 4 hours $10 with a drop off between 7-8am After picking him up I noticed in their parking lot that my pup had the holes and some slight bleeding so I took him back inside and the vet cleaned out the bite and gave us some spray and a $22 bill. - Now not sure how a bill that was supposed to be $10 became $22 (will find out the reason on that one) - no idea how much there really supervised - the person (owner's daughter) showed us where she thought my dog was playing with Over all minus the bite and the over charge the staff seemed very nice and truly were animal people. Though not sure how comfortable I feel bring him back, I do believe in second chances for most things but it would have to be a huge convincing to take him back again. Dogs will be dogs but not being aware the was blood on my dog before you returned him to me was a bit concerning and the over charging me was not cool at all! read more

They have overgrown their capacity and are now just trying to maximize profits. They have 4-5 dogs per room and allow way to many in daycare each day. Nobody checks on the dogs during the day. Sad to see what such a great place has become. Do not take your dog here. read more

The grooming of the 2 golden retrievers was adequate...HOWEVER, I was told if I had them in early they could be first ones done. We dropped them off at 7:40 am. These were two rescue dogs that have only been with us for 10 mos and have separation anxiety issues that are getting better, but I specifically asked if they could get done ASAP, because of their issues. They have been to groomers before and since we got them. No problem I was told. I was told they would call us 1 hr prior to their being done. At 12:30 I called and only one was just getting started and I was told probably around 3pm. When I didn't get a text or a call 1 hr before ( like they stated) we just got in the car at 3:30 and went to get them. 8 hrs. they were there. I have never had in my 50 yrs of owning dogs, had to leave them for 8 hrs at a groomer. If I wanted them in doggy day care I would do it but this was absolutely not acceptable. They won't be going back. This is not how you run a grooming business. Oh, I did get a text from them, after we'd left the place w/the dogs, stating the dogs were ready for pick up. I loved this place. The staff were so friendly and so great with my dog. The only thing is we had been using K9 Advantix for years and always been fine as far as fleas but within a month of starting here my dog had fleas. The Vet said K9 wasn't effective for the area, we just never came in contact with fleas so I always thought it worked. But, all of a sudden he's around a bunch of other dogs and he has them. I recommend getting a preventative from a Vet and not the store. Trust me. Fleas are the worst and expensive to get rid of! And not their fault at all, obviously. Just be aware of that before bring your dog in. read more

Upon entering the facility there was a very strong odor. The receptionist admitted she knew nothing about grooming and recorded "notes" for the groomer who wouldn't show until 10:30, even though my appointment was for a much earlier time. My dog has long flowing hair with a signature facial mane. I suggested the mane not be cut but the rest to be washed, groomed and thinned. Result, The undercoat was not thinned; the nails were not clipped, After two days she looked like she hadn't been groomed in weeks. I have since found a new groomer who knew exactly what to do. I will never recommend this place to anyone who cares about their "treasure". read more

We boarded our dog here for a couple of days when we stayed at Hilton Head for a couple days at a place that didn't allow dogs. The staff was friendly and helpful. The facility was quite large and clean and the dogs had a lot of space to roam and go freely from indoors to outdoors. Our dog is on the small side, so the staff made sure to group our dog with similar sized dogs. When we came to pick up our dog he seemed content and not stressed out at all. I am pleased with my experience at the bark shack and I can recommend it highly to anyone who needs dog boarding services in the area. read more

I frequently take my fur-babies here to allow them to socialize and have a day to play. I have been going for about a year one to two days per week. The rates are reasonable at $11/pet for day care. The staff are friendly! The office at times smells like pet waste which is a bit concerning but there are cameras and one time I received a text video of them playing. That was awesome! At Halloween the exterior was decorated amazingly! The team facility is cute from the outside and continues to have ongoing improvements. Overall I would say that they have a great time and will continue to take them here. We are all happy with them! read more

I really wanted to like you. I feel terrible writing this review, but you must know. I know my pups can be a handful, but Day #1, they came home covered in feces. My car was disgusting. They were disgusting. Obviously, I had to bathe them. Day #2, I tried to drop them off, the did not want to get out of the car. I had to carry them in. Also, had to bathe them. Day #3, I asked you, "Do they like it here?" You let them be up front for the day. How fun for them? They were shaking when I picked them up. They also smelled awful (again). Another bathe. This facility came recommended to me by coworker. She had taken her dog for a week boarding stay. I needed somewhere for my boy for three days! I decided to try a daycare to see if he would be okay staying there. Very loud, smells horrible and dirty. Gave them a break against my better judgement(how stupid right?) left my boy for 3 hours. When I picked him up he HE had a giant laceration on his neck. I was handed antibiotics from someone who appeared to be in high school so I'm assuming doesn't have a medical degree to be giving out medications. I was never called about the incident. I understand it's a doggie play ground and that is a risk you take, but had I know there was a tussle I would have picked him up and taken him to my vet. Someone who can actually prescribe medication and suture this wound. I don't know how they have not been shut down for illegal practices like this. read more

Do NOT take your dog here. I went on vacation and took my German Shepherd puppy here and they let him lay down in an ant hill. Also had several bites from other dogs and he lost a bunch of hair. One of the ant bites got infected and the owner blamed it on me or something in my mom's car when she picked him up. Total lack of responsibility of owning up to their mistakes. *WARNING* I've been to the Bark Shack twice with my dog. Mind you, she is current on all of her shots and vaccines. The price was very reasonable and the staff seemed very friendly. Well, unfortunately, my dog has had to go to the vet after each stay. The first time was about a year ago. My dog was very sick and ended up with some intestinal parasite that made her throw up and have diarrhea. Last week we took her there for just the day. A couple days later my dog started to develop a terrible cough. She has kennel cough! My dog has the bordetella vaccine, but still caught it. The staff is very friendly, but the Bark Shack will make your dog sick. What money you save boarding your pet will quickly vanish with Vet bills. You've been warned. read more

UPDATE- Ted has been coming to Bark Shack for 8 months and still loving it! I February 2018, we started bringing our rescue dog (Berger Picard/Red Healer mix) to Bark Shack for all day play (3-4 days per week), and so far it's been great! The staff clearly loves animals and are very friendly and attentive to Ted's needs. Ted is so excited, that in the mornings, he can't get into the car fast enough and is noticeably depressed on Mondays (his day off). The best part is after a 7 hour day at the Shack, he comes home, eats, pees and pretty much naps until bedtime. Seriously if you have an active dog and you have children, or work or are otherwise busy, then this is the ticket. read more

I took my extra large, naughty dog to the bark shack and I honestly feel like he is in amazing hands. Karen, the owner, gave me her cell for me to check in my dog while he's staying there and she responds to my texts soooo quickly (that is my dream!!!) The prices are extremely reasonable and my dog is having fun! My sweet dog is a handful, and Karen and her staff listened very patiently to all of his special needs and accommodated every single one. I seriously can't even explain to you how much you should not board your animal here. I will be uploading photos of my dogs face as soon as I am in better connection. I have used this business for boarding several times. Biggest mistake. I came to pick up my boxer for his vet appointment, as we are getting ready to travel and he was in need of some vaccinations and I needed fresh paperwork on him. When I picked my dog up, his face was bloody and scraped. I was terrified and asked them what happened. One employee said he must have been playing too hard with the other dogs. Then Dillion came out and explained that he doesn't play with any toner animals (didn't know that he was confined) and that he must have been "fighting with the dogs in the kennel next to him". I was furious!!!! I took him to the vet and he had to be put on antibiotics for the cuts! Oral and topical! $50! Dillion tried to say that it's not his fault and he couldn't stop what happened. Maybe so, but a phone call or telling me on one of the several occasions that I called to check on my pet in his 4 night stay there would've sufficed. At least I wouldn't have been in shock. I feel so sorry for my dog. I was supposed to take my dog to get his vaccinations and check up and then return him to this business, but I could not in good conscious take him back. When I returned to pay for his stay and pick up his food, I told Dillion that I had to pay for antibiotics and that I was really upset I wasn't informed. He didn't offer any sort of compensation, not even for the antibiotics that had to be given bc they couldn't take care of my dog. Here's a video of the owner being a totally, uncaring, ahole. She walks out to my fiancé after he was furious I paid the bill. She didn't have anything to say other than " send vet records and pics of the wounds". The fact that she demanded that info is embarrassing and demoralizing. So, I sent the records and she refunded us $70 of 130. Fair, but bad business. So freaking rude. I can't deal with people so much more excited about the money rather than the care of the damn animals. We have used them several times and I have spent tons of money. Bad judgement on my end. Red flags I ignored bc they seemed to care (report cards of your pet) etc. I will never, ever trust them with my pets care again. They basically said at the end of my fiancé's conversation that my dog wasn't well suited for their kennel. Thanks for the incredibly freaking late heads up. read more

Our two big guys LOVE going to the Bark Shack whether it's for daycare or overnight boarding. We know they are well cared for and have fun socializing with all the dogs. When I lived in Bluffton, SC, Bark Shack was where I took my dog anytime I had to head out of town. The owner is super nice and very hands on. It was a little crowded at times but I love that they are willing to pick up and drop off if needed too. Never had any issues with my dog at Bark Shack. We stopped in this morning to check out the Bark Shack for boarding and day care for our puppy. The first thing we were greeted by was the smell (stench!), We were given the tour of the kennel and I must say the odor (stench) was the best part of the tour. Sticky, smelly, slippery, wet floors. Wood doors chewed and splintered. The fake grass in the yards had many many piles of dog poop. The overnight kennels looked worse than a dog pound. The cat area looked just as bad. The place is so dirty and smelly that we felt like we needed a shower after the short tour. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE OVERNIGHT. REPEAT STAY AWAY FROM OVERNIGHT VISITS!!!! Walking in, the place is DISGUSTING. Cement floors, no grass and awful smells and poop and pee everywhere. We picked up our dog close to closing time. He is a year old pug, very small for his age. He seemed lethargic and was limping on his back right leg. I was annoyed that no one had told me this when I called during the week, but chalked it up to him running around with other dogs , so I let it go. The next day: poor baby is coughing, sneezing, vomitting and having diarrhea all over the house- which he NEVER does. Concerned, I call the kennel and ask again what food he had been given. Previously, they had told me he was being fed Pedigree dry food. THIS time when I call, the young man said "Oh, we mix a wet food in as well." UM... What? That was never told to me before. I asked what brand, he did not know. The owner then contacted me and honestly I have never ever been treated so rudely and terribly in my life. She told me "I don't have to tell you ANYTHING that I fed your dog." Being that I am a teacher, this upset me as all parents have a right to know what their child (fur babies or not) has been consuming when they come home sick. After yelling and arguing, she told me that if I had been an "older customer of mine" that she would refund and take care of me, no questions asked. Great way to treat new customers, right? Ha! She told me to come in with proof of a vet bill and she would compensate me for the vet visit. We go to the pet hospital $115 later, take the bill to her as she requested, and she pulls us out onto her front porch and asked us, "Tell me why I should compensate you." .......Um what? Am I on candid camera? She is the one who TOLD US to bring in the bill for compensation! She is totally out of touch with reality and how to run a business. She looks absurdly unkempt and disgusting and her personality matches her outward work appearance. I am embarrassed for her and will NEVER EVER let them touch my poor dog ever again. read more

I am currently getting my dog bathed at Petco around the corner from Bark Shack and they even said how horrible she looked and that they have heard nothing but bad remarks about this place. I came into Bluffton for one night & had to board my Maltese one night. I saw the reviews (which must not be from real customers) and so I thought it was okay. Who wouldn't, right. Upon arrival, I opened the doors and the smell was something I have never experienced before. I literally almost got sick and had to hold my breath. There were a few dogs around the receptionist which made me feel good so I let her stay. I peaked around to the hall, play areas, outside and it was filthy filthy filthy. Just concrete as well- no soft fake grass to lay on like most daycares. She had her bed and was praying she could just hang out at the front desk. Upon pick up the next morning, she has run the fastest I have seen her to the door. She smelled like the interior ( just awful) and she was covered in pee and feces and dirt. The woman picked up the wrong dog at first asking if it was my dog so they obviously don't get to know the dogs. They didn't even say bye to my dog & cared less. Another lady was outside and her arms were covered in dirt or feces. Not sure which. My daughter was holding a water bottle and my sweet little dog scratched at the water bottle and so she ended up drinking the whole bottle! That is a lot for a small dog to take in. I wonder is they even fed her. I also had a shirt of mine for a familiar scent and they didn't even take it out. I know b/c of how it was folded. They obviously dehydrated her which makes me crazy. This place doesn't even get one star. The reviews are from these ladies friends/families and made up email accounts. I hope I can help people. Update: I called them to ask what happened and no one answers. I left a message expressing my concern and never received a call back. That should tell you something. read more

New to the area with 3 Cocker Spaniels, we wanted a place where they could all be together. The Bark Shack had a private kennel, all 3 were able to be together and they could even have their toys plus a blanket at night. One needed meds. We requested they be groomed also. I will never return. I had heard great things about it; unfortunately I did not have the same experience. When my dog was dropped off, he was nervous and was then dragged into the back. When I picked him up, he seemed okay. The next day I noticed him licking his 'man parts' a lot and checked on him. He had a huge scab and his tail was extremely sensitive. I took him to the vet, only to reveal a swollen tail, large scab and red, irritated area. He is now on steroids, anti inflammatories, medicated wipes and anti itch. I went to speak with the owner, upon completion of her 'research' she was very rude, decided they were not at fault, blammed it on my own home. Also refused to reimburse me for the terrible services or medical bills accumulated due to their wrong doing. Needless to say I will never utilize their services again. read more

The dogs run around and play all day. Everyone who works there is very nice and they love animals. They know me and my dog by name and we don't go there that often. The prices are fantastic. The dogs do get messy and I would recommend bringing your own dog food for your dog because my girl got sick from switching foods while she is there. Great place and would recommend any day! read more
