I'll be completely honest - as a Bay Area Native and also a hair cut conossour, I got a hair cut from a guy from the South - and man he jacked my entire hair up I mean I came in there with a full 8" all around hair to a taper that ended up looking like a Mohawk and was still charged after I completely lost all my hair due to the barber going shorter and higher - finally got my hair back AND HECK NO NEVER AGAIN - I maybe he's there or maybe hopefully they fired him because wow I LITTERLY pay 80 everywhere I go and happily do it for a great cut but 40 for that was insane which is why I only paid 25 and left very upset. read more

While in Eugene on business, I had a short window of time between meetings to get my hair cut. Checking out the reviews, I picked The Barber Shop and am glad I did. I walked in, I was seated quickly, the haircut was top notch, and everyone was friendly. But that's not why am glad I stopped here among all the other barbers in Eugene. Today, I was fortunate enough to meet Jake. We had a great time chatting about the nature of life, challenges, and what it takes to keep bouncing back when you're knocked down. Great guy, intelligent, and you can tell he cares. He casually mentioned that he cuts hair on the streets as well so I got my Google on and did some digging. As it turns out, Jake gives back to the community by offering free haircuts to the homeless in downtown Eugene. I was planning on coming here for a trim. I went specifically because of your high ratings, weekend operating hours and walk-in haircuts. Everything was fine until the receptionist heard my name and said it wouldn't be possible for me to get a walk-in haircut because I'm a girl. I was shocked. I asked if they cut women's hair at all, and the receptionist said I would have to wait until the female hairdresser was available for her to cut my hair. They insisted on booking me with a female barber. Only after rephrasing my request that I was just a PERSON needing a short "male haircut", did they ask the barber if they would be okay with me coming in. So apparently walk-in means walk-ins only for men. Needless to say I won't be getting my hair cut there. read more

Worst haircut I've ever had in my life! I asked her for a fade, ended up with lines and no blending. In some spots I was completely bald. Tried to salvage it at home with a buzz, but not much to do about the bald spots created by the barber. Maybe she was having a bad day, but really disappointed! The Barber Shop on E 13th in Eugene was a pretty cool place. I made an appointment and was able to get in within minutes! Also pretty cool! The appointment was for a beard trim, neck shave and maybe a hair trim. My 'barber' was Debbie, a delightful, well-informed Duck fan. That is a big plus! At the end of the appointment, I had a first-class beard trim and a great hair trim. One problem - no neck shave, front or back. I guess I am old-school! I mentioned the neck shave a couple of times, but did not receive any comment or reply such as 'we don't do those here' or the equivalent...just silence on the matter. Otherwise, I would give them a five-star rating. If you are a beer drinker, there is a big plus. They offer several local (Oregon) beers. Unfortunately, I am not a beer drinker. Highly recommended...unless, of course, you want that neck shaved! :) read more

Genuinely outstanding place. Went here based on Yelp reviews, and called the day of to make an appointment. Les in the back corner did my cut, and what a friendly guy :) He asked what I wanted, and gave me exactly that - and the best haircut I've had in months! Unfortunately I'm in town on business so this is the first and only time I can go here, but if I lived in Eugene, Les and this barber shop would be my new place. FYI- Les also took his time with my cut, so I had the opportunity to look around and see other barbers and customers do their thing for a bit. Everyone working was very warm, fun, and friendly. I had to use the services of Kellan after my son fired me from cutting his hair. He said he wanted it professionally done. Saddened I made the appointment, which was easy and setup for next day. But glad I did because Kellan is really great at what he does. Made my son at ease and did a awesome job. I was happy and most importantly my son was happy. Worth every penny. Short version: GO HERE. DO NOT HESITATE. DEB IS AMAZING. AND ONLY 12 BUCKS?! SERIOUSLY! Long-ish version: I'm not local. So, based on Yelp reviews, I decided to walk in. There was one client ahead of me, so I looked through the style books. Unlike my Yelp pic, I wear my hair very short now. I showed Deb what I wanted based on the pics I liked, as well as my concerns (I have a hurricane-like colic on the back of my head; wasn't pleased with last cut, etc). Deb listened and executed flawlessly. Let me make one thing clear: I'm genderfluid. I wanted a cut not too girlie, not too masculine. I've been to many barbers, and have liked some cuts better than others, but few I've raved about. DEB NAILED IT. She gave me a *stylish* cut worthy of a progressive town like Eugene. I'm from Florida (don't hate me), so maybe you can see where I'm coming from. Only regret is I should have tipped more (even though I gave a substantial tip)! I'll do better next time. read more

Terrible. I am a woman and asked for an edgy hair style. A cute edgy pixie. I even brought in a picture of the cut. My head has been shaved to the scalp over most of my head and I have what looks like an uneven buzz cut on top. I paid and left feeling humiliated. The only thing I can do is wear a scarf for the next few months until it grows out. I am not sure why Debbie decided to inflict me with this hair cut, but I know I will not be back. I've been here twice now, and for the price ($12 for men) it's a very reasonable haircut. The lady in there (not Les, the other one) takes time and pride in her work, and I haven't yet left thinking I just paid too much for a cut I didn't really like. I recently went to the this place after getting a sub-par haircut at a popular downtown spot. I felt like I had payed a bit too much and was just thrown through the motions to get me out of the chair quickly, and this isn't my preferred barbershop experience. I decided to give Les' Barbershop a try, and I'm more than pleased with the haircut that one of their newer barbers did for me. Don't hesitate to request Kellen Hodges for an amazing experience. It seems like he really loves what he does, and it shows. The shop is open and friendly. Bright and fully accommodating. Haircut was only 12$!!! (Half the price of the other haircut I got, yet easily twice as good). One thing I will say, is I was a little confused on the name of the barbershop. It seems that online it's named Les' barbershop, but when I arrived I was informed that it's the same place but les' retired, and is now simply " The barbershop" I looked it up on Facebook and it seems to be called The Barbershop there too. In summary, I'm a very happy customer, and I have found my new barbershop, and barber. Highly recommended. read more

I've had a string of bad hair cuts over the years, but nothing comes quite close to the one I got today. I've been trying to grow out my hair for a while, but decided I wanted to mix it up and get it trimmed pretty short. I've been going to Les' for about 2 years now and have always gotten at least a decent cut. I decided to go with Kellen this time, and was hoping that after growing my hair out he'd be able to do something good with it. Well, he took it and really messed it up. He trimmed around my ears and did a sloppy job, my hair line above my ear on the left side is clearly is going up much farther than the right side. I've already had people laugh at how ridiculous it looks. I'm glad I'll have a few more weeks until school starts so I can hopefully grow this out some. I'm mad at myself for tipping so well, I hadn't even realized the problem until I got in the car and looked at myself in the mirror.
