I came quite late to the whole bagel craze ("look, bread with a hole in it!"), and I must confess that I am very conflicted about the whole enterprise.
Now it is true that the Breakfast Bagel from The Bagel Bar is pretty aces, and with a spot of tomato relish is bordering on the divine. And while €5.50 for what is essentially a sandwich is a little steep, you can sit down and eat it in comfort, so that's ok.
My beef with the bagel is that no matter how big the filling (and a Breakfast Bagel's filling is pretty decadent), I find that you're never really filled up. Maybe it's the hole or something, but a filled bagel never completely fills me.
And, I was rather shocked to learn that a bagel contains the equivalent of FIVE SERVINGS OF BREAD! Holy mother, something that doesn't even fill you up has enough carbohydrate to set your ass jiggling for weeks on end! Me, I'm going to stick to bread that is in slices, thank you very much.
