"One must always be careful of books, and what is inside them, for words have the power to change…read moreus." -- Cassandra Clare I'm old enough to remember when B&N were deemed the 'enemy' to mom-and-pop shops but now they're... David to Amazon's Goliath. (I guess?!) Sadly there's no small/local bookstores in my town so I have to make the hike to this location (which I'm more fond of than their much-closer location in Clifton). You probably know the scoop... lots of books (duh!), lots of toys and (board) games, a vinyl record section (!), a café, and on my most recent visits... super cool down-to-earth workers eager to help without a chip on their shoulder (which I've encountered from time to time at that OTHER location). I'm not trying to pontificate (too much) but I recently saw a study that "reading for pleasure" is down by 40% and collectively our IQ scores are starting to go down (the first time in decades) so you owe it to yourself (and the future of our species!) to get yourself a (good) book and exercise that brain of yours.

The negative reviews of this store baffle us. The store is well-organized, staff are helpful and…read morekind, and they have one of the last full collections of magazines. Their selection of vinyl is also quite good. Stock of books is quite large, and I've found things here I haven't found elsewhere. This store reminds me of what Barnes and Noble locations used to look like, and we love that hit of nostalgia each time we come here. Staff are also excellent about providing recommendations. The store is clean and well-kept. They are also well-staffed. Lines are moved along quickly. Prices are what you would expect. Overall, have never had a bad experience here.

We visited today for the Mother's Day Queen's Tea. I called to make a reservation 2 months in advance since they book up so quickly. In general, reservations are recommended as seating is limited, especially on weekends. When you arrive, you are presented with a prix-fix menu. On non-holidays, you usually have a choice between the soup or the salad of the day. You select your pot of tea from over 60 premium tea flavors. Today, I chose the "Paris" special tea, which had notes of vanilla, caramel, and bergamot. For the Mother's Day Queen's Tea, we had the broccoli and cheddar quiche, a pear, goat cheese, candied walnut, mixed green salad, scones, assorted mini sandwiches, and several mini desserts. Every course was fresh and excellent. The caramel scones are one of the best things I have ever eaten. They are served warm with clotted cream and lemon curd. The caramel is so goey and melts in your mouth. We brought some orange juice and prosecco to have mimosas with our tea. They have glassware in the back that you can request when making your reservation. The service is always top-notch. Holly is the best server! She is super sweet and always hardworking. At the entrance, there is a little gift shop with lots of cute vintage items, tea-themed trinkets, and some of the loose lea tea available in small bags. We love coming here and hope to be back again soon. Overall, everyone at the party had an amazing experience.

Not easy to search through or get around but it's all about the dig. Pretty well organized as far as genre. I knocked a few things off my want list. Prices were pretty reasonable for the most part. I later found out there was a documentary about the store so I watched that and now I'm even more glad I stopped in. Seems like the store isn't doing great at the moment. I would hate to see it close so I will be making this a regular stop. If you're an old school collector, you'll enjoy it.

The prices seemed high for playable records, I saw nothing under $20. All too many of the covers were badly worn or the records scratched, for these prices I think an album should be pretty outside & unscratched inside. Not everything is overpriced, there's also an enormous section of $1 albums, completely unsorted. The center rack is sorted by artist with sections for rock/pop, jazz and hard rock. But it's tough to get to that rack, all aisles are hopelessly cluttered with boxes of unsorted vinyl, packed so full that you cannot get past other people, stacked so tightly that you cannot reach the racks to flip thru, it's just unpleasant. If you're patient you may indeed find something you'll treasure. I bought a playable, non-collectible pressing of a 1985 rock album for $20, that was about the same as the fleabay price but here it was instant gratification and support of a local business. I was surprised this music business couldn't bother to play interesting tunes on a decent sound system, here it's just staticky radio through cheap speakers, meh.

From new issues to back log, everything has a neat and tidy place, making browsing quick and effortless. They place a variety of mid-level rare comics ranging in price from $15 to $40 near most of the comic shelves, which make for both excellent window shopping and dangerous impulse purchases. They have a nice selection of old and new comics, mostly from DC and Marvel, so Gotham might not be great if you're looking for more obscure or niche comic brands. Similarly, this is a comic shop first, and things like games have a small presence. I also have to mention the staff working at Gotham. The employee was super helpful, going above and beyond in looking for issues that I couldn't immediately find. He made my visit feel extra special. The only downside with this comic shop is that it isn't located closer to my home! Otherwise I'd go there every week!

But if you're looking for mainstream new releases, chances are you'll find them on release day (maybe the week after too). Not too much else to look at, especially collectibles, so your visit will probably be a whole lot shorter than other comic book shops (which is better for your wallet). But if you're in the area and you're in a pinch for that new Batman comic, this is your place. It was a hot day when I visited and they just had a couple floor fans running. Nothing gets me out of a comic book shop faster than sweaty hands on loose/unbagged books. And for parking, expect to circle around a couple times (plan to pay for a meter). But service is super friendly and they take card. And like I said, for what it is/does it's still a 5 star place
