We decided to share a couple of subs, The Sunny-Lea ("turkey, stuffing, cranberries, cheese") and The 1830 ("AAA wood-fired beef, caramelized onions, and caremelized onion cheese"). They were ready a few minutes later, so we took our food out to an available bench and began eating. These are some seriously terrific subs. I started with the 1830 and it pretty much blew me away right from the first bite. The super tender (and plentiful) meat is enhanced by the other components, and honestly I'd be happy eating that sandwich every day for the rest of my life. The Sunny-Lea fares just as well and really does taste like Thanksgiving in sandwich form. Really, really phenomenal. I wish that Farmer's Daughter Sub Shoppe weren't so far away, but at least now I have a reliable stop to make any time I head out in that direction.

I stumbled upon this place on a walk downtown and HAD to give it a try because of their eccentric name and cool logo. I tried their Art of Almost sandwich which is avocado and brie with a sweet spicy mustard -- you can choose 3 extra toppings as well. It was absolutely divine! This was a signature sandwich, so it came to $12 but you can get the half sandwich for $6.50. Their non-signature sandwiches are $10.50 for a full one and $5.75 for a half one. The first time I picked up some Swedish sponges, at just under $7.00 ea for most of them (depending on sizing), that's approximately $3.00 in savings from the grocery store in Toronto. This pie was delicious. I knew I had to return to pick up the Chicken Pesto sandwich that was calling my name, yet I needed to leave behind due to my bank card not working. So return I did, and that chicken pesto, was so scrumptious. I was definitely buying with my eyes that day and that croissant was flakey, buttery, that strip of chocolate down the centre, rich, delicious, memorable. Very, easy to devour. On our first visit, my 87-year-old father casually mentioned that he hadn't known the place existed. The owner responded by yelling at him about how long the business has been open and listing other places she owns, leaving him feeling embarrassed and ignorant. The final straw happened during my most recent visit. I flew in from Las Vegas and wanted to take my parents, both in their 80s, to get sandwiches. Standing for long periods is difficult for them, so they sat briefly in the dining area while I ordered. They were the only customers in the restaurant at the time. They were immediately yelled at and told they could not sit there unless they ordered from the dinner menu. My father politely explained that we were ordering sandwiches and that his daughter had just flown in. The owner said it didn't matter--if we weren't ordering off the dinner menu, we had to leave. As a result, we were forced to eat in our car in the middle of winter. Great food does not excuse disrespectful, unkind treatment--especially toward elderly customers. The lack of compassion was shocking, and I will not return.
