I absolutely LOVE The Back Clinic, Inc.! I've been to 8 appointments so far and have already reached my short-term goals and a couple of my long-term goals as well! At the last physical therapy place I was going to (I won't use names) I was actually in more pain and worse off than when I had started working with them... I even went to the hospital because one of their exercises pooped my shoulder out of socket, even after I had told them it was causing me pain! Luckily, I switched to The Back Clinic, Inc. on recommendation from my mom (who also has been a patient here and loves it as much as I do!) and ever since I've only seen improvements. The subtle, low-exertion exercises and movements they do has, to my surprise, made such a massive improvement as opposed to the full powered, high energy work I was doing at the other place. The staff here is so wonderful and you can tell that they're really invested in your recovery on a personal level. My therapist has made me feel like she genuinely cares and when I'm there for my appointments, she is focused 100% and gives me her full attention for the duration of my time. I feel so incredibly lucky that The Back Clinic was recommended to me. I wish I had found them years ago! I have been to several other PT clinics over the past 11 years since I first hurt my lower back, and this was a much more personalized and caring experience. Surgery was recommended as a next option three years ago by another doctor, which I am not interested in. When it got much worse this year, I chose to go back to PT to learn more exercises and retrain myself to sit/stand/lift correctly. I hate the large rooms other places have with the physical therapists working with many patients at once. When I'm in pain, I need privacy, and The Back Clinic (especially Melissa!) gives individualized care in personal rooms so that you can ask questions and know you are doing exercises correctly. I never felt rushed, ignored, or embarrassed. I know my back will never completely recover after I hurt it in my early 20s, but my time here helped me relearn techniques I had forgotten or didn't know to help keep it in check, and it is very comforting to know that I can return if/when I need to in the future. I will start by saying that I am utterly biased. I have not only been a patient here several times, but I work here as well. I moved back to the East Coast after living in San Diego and basically came back to DE just to come back to work here. I think that says a lot about how well run this clinic is. I cannot begin to tell you how pleased I have been with the services provided by the always professional team of the The Back Clinic, Inc. I have never had physical therapy before and was a little apprehensive but I could no longer tolerate the pain in my shoulder and upper arm. From the time I entered the clinic and was greeted at the front desk I knew I was in the right place. For the last 4 months I have worked with Melissa and Carol to eliminate my pain and regain the strength in my shoulder and arm. They also gave me the tools in the way of exercise to continue strengthening my shoulder and keeping the pain from returning. I can't begin to thank everyone enough! My visits always started and ended with a friendly smile from the staff at the front desk and those that escorted me to the exam room. I am so grateful for my Doctor's referral to The Back Clinic. From the moment I arrived, I was treated with respect and professionalism. My Physical Therapist, (Mellissa Higgins, D.P.T.) provided guided exercises and massage therapy that gave relief to pain and increased my confidence in how to better manage/prevent future back problems. She also provided multiple handouts for various exercises that helped in doing the exercises at home. I now feel more confident in knowing how to provide self care for back problems in the future. I looked into other Physical Therapy offices and they looked like an open gym, impersonal, beds and equipment lined up in a row. I had been to The Back Clinic before and found out very quickly that not all PT facilities are the same! As for personal care and attention to my needs in a comfortable and private setting, The Back Clinic staff is incomparable. After a thorough evaluation, my therapist massaged just the right spot on my back and I was in "7th heaven" with relief. The Back Clinic is my "Go To" place for any therapy .Ellen and her staff are wonderful!! Everyone is encouraging and supportive. I have therapy for both back and foot pain with excellent results. I was given an on going exercise plan to do at home to continue my healing process. I have used these exercises at home since my first visit and will never stop. I love that they actually listen to you and are always adjusting your personal therapy session to get the best results.You never feel rushed and they go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. This was my second experience at the Back Clinic. My PCP recommended them to me in 2013, if I recall correctly. My profession takes me to many Physical Therapy sites. The Back Clinic is unique! The attention is always personalized and compassionate. The therapy rooms are individual rather than a huge common room. Holly Chapin has been my PT both times. I can't imagine anyone could be better than Holly. My therapy included both manipulation and exercises.
