I used the service for a preop physical. On the first visit I was charged $260. The second visit I was charged $180 with the same service. When I inquired why the first visit was a higher cost. I was told there was an $80 first customer visit fee. This is something I should've been made aware of on my first visit. If I was made aware of this, I could've easily gone to my primary physician and and could have avoided this cost. It is an unethical practice to not make a patient aware of this additional charge for a first time patient fee. It also makes no sense because I had to fill out the same amount of paperwork on both visits. Go to your primary physician if you can avoid using this company. I don't recommend them. read more

These people were not rude in fact they were very pleasant, and I think that is why this type of service is being accepted. While I think being kind and well mannered is a huge plus, it is not the only thing required in service, especially when it comes to medical care. I don't want my review to be taken as if these people we rude or bad people in anyway at all. I just feel as though patients shouldn't leave the room feeling that any questions were left unanswered, let alone none at all. read more

I cannot thank this wonderful place enough. For the past 40+ years they have been patching my body up. Today I took my precious father in today because he was near bleeding to death. Roseanne is the beautiful woman who blessed me when I was not sure what to do. She pulled my Dad's information up so quickly, I did not need to complete the forms. Anne and Stacie are the two sweet nurses who cared for Dad and called for Dr. Garraway in because blood was everywhere. They called ahead to Wilmington Hospital, who had staff waiting for my son's cop car to pull in. I recommend Silverside Medical Aid Unit because of the beautiful people who are amazing and skilled at their careers, while treating you like they care about you! This place rocks. Silverside Medical Aid Unit is a walk-in doctors office; no appointment ever needed. They handle non-life-threatening stuff like colds, wrenched backs, stitches, minor broken things (fingers, noses, etc.). They're open 7 days per week (including holidays), usually from 9-6 or somesuch. (Call to make sure.) They're pretty busy on weekends, but during the week you can get in and out of there quickly. I was there this weekend for an ear infection and the place was packed, and my whole visit probably took 90 minutes. Much better than waiting a week to see my regular doc. They take most insurance, and even if you're uninsured a typical office visit runs you about $65 out of pocket. Not a bad deal. The front office staff is terrific, and they just redid their waiting room so it's all shiny new and comfy. You probably won't see the same doctor there twice, but when you're in a pinch you don't care. If you're on Silverside Road heading towards 202, they'll be on the left-hand side a little ways after you cross Foulk Road. They're inside that medical building there; first door on the left when you walk inside. read more

I go to the Silverside Medical Aid Unit whenever calamity strikes and I have to get checked out. Last time I was there, is probably close to 10 years ago. Last Wednesday I needed to be checked out for a wrist/hand injury. 7 days prior I had done many stupid things and injured it somehow! I had been wrapping, resting, and icing my hand and wrist, along with taking an OTC anti inflammatory. Each day it was getting worse instead of getting better. It had gotten to the point where I had pain shooting up my forearm and through my fingers. Constant throbbing, but I could still move all my fingers. I could not roll my wrist. That causes intense pain along with an odd pressure that prevents the movement. It almost feels like your joint right before they pop or crack? So I was beginning to worry about a possible break in there somewhere. Everyone was telling me I needed to go for an xray. I took time off work, paid the $70 copay, and went to see Dr Wayne Garraway. He seemed to not be listening to my description of the day that I injured myself. I couldn't pinpoint a specific action that caused the injury. It was a long day of frantic adrenaline filled physical labor. I needed to get 3 days for work done in a single day. I was pushing, pulling, catching, picking up and putting down heavy objects all day. In hindsight, I think I injured myself when moving two 10ft long sections of stairs. They were too hard to drag, so I flipped them end over end to get them to the place they needed to me. Pushing them up, then catching them as they fell down on top of me on the opposite side. Since I did not fall myself or remembered a specific event that caused the injury (seriously the whole day was filled with pain) Dr Garraway said it was probably a sprain. To go to the drug store and buy a splint, wrote me a script for a prescription NSAID, told me to ice for 3 days then move to heat. Focus on resting and letting the sprain heal. Please remember that I had been resting, supporting, and icing for 7 days and it was only getting worse. But the splint will immobilize things so maybe that will be the golden ticket? Dr Garraway did not want to to xrays due to increased radiation risk. That gave me major pause. I thought I was supposed to have the crazy views and opinions? I asked what I was supposed to do if the splint did not improve things, he replied to wait a week then come back in. We would do Xrays then. I left not really thrilled with my care. As I reported back to friends and family who are in medical fields they were appalled and I slowly became more angry. Waiting 2 weeks after an injury to Xray is the wrong way to do things. Then you boil it down to the facts. I was prepared to pay the $70 copay, plus the 40% of the xrays that my insurance doesn't cover. I am not prepared to pay $140 in office visit copays plus xray costs. Coming back in a week is unrealistic for my current circumstances. I wasted $70 along with 2 hours of my time to basically heal a potential break at home for the next several months. Hoping that it heals correctly. So far, I'm not getting any better. Heat makes everything throb more, so I'm sticking to ice. The prescription anti inflammatory does not appear to be doing much of anything. The splint seems to help since things are not getting worse. I'm wearing that 24/7 even when showering. I bought 2 for this purpose. I am using vet wrap to support my hand under the splint due to thumb pain. I will NEVER step foot inside Silverside Medical Unit again. The more I think about how the appointment went, the more I feel that this was negligence. Now I'm still in pain, with no clear answers, and angry. read more

RE: Philipha N. I am really shocked at your complaint about this nurse practitioner. Mare has been at my aide for several years now and has been nothing but kind, helpful and empathetic. If she sent in another nurse to answer your questions then I'm not sure what you are complaining about. It sounds like you got the care that you needed. Did you stop to think that perhaps Mare had another patient with a more serious injury that she had to attend to? I trust that a nurse practioner with the length of service and education that Mare has would know what is best for her patients. Were you having a bad day when you wrote this? Cheer up! read more

I have gone to the Silverside medical aid unit on multiple occasions now and find that the care I receive has been in line if not better than the care I receive at my primary physician's office. I have been seen at the unit and have brought my 5 year old child to be seen as well. I would choose this service over an Emergency Room in any instance and value the convenience it affords me at a very reasonable price. I applaud the use of applying appropriate personnel to appropriate tasks in an effort to maximize efficient use of my time and insurance dollars. I have actually seen the nurse practitioner named in the earlier review on each occasion. She has been attentive and professional each time and I certainly would say is not worthy of having her name posted with such negative unverified feedback. read more

I live a few miles from Silverside Medical and am thankful they are close. I've gone three times in the past year. The level of care is excellent, the staff is very professional, and I've never waited more than fifteen minutes or so to be seen. In fact, the wait times I've experienced are always substantially less than the wait times for a regularly scheduled appointment with my primary care physician. This place is clean, the staff - from the receptionist, to the RN, to the doctor - have been very kind and professional in all of my visits. I've visited this center 3 times in the past few years. Only using them when I couldn't get a quick appt with my PCP. Two of the 3 visits I was treated by Dr. Garraway and each time I felt he dismissed my complaint of pain. The most recent visit was this past Thursday 6/28. When I complained about my pain he told me I was being dramatic. He continued to discuss treating the symptoms but I had to ask what can I do about the pain. After all it was the pain that caused me to seek care. He said "I think you'll be fine in a few days". In other words, just suffer thru until you feel better. Well I didn't need to pay $100 to hear that. In the future, I'll wait for my PCP or try Medexpress. read more

Have to say I'm giving up on this place for good, though the staff are pleasant and prompt, they seem not to be too good at diagnoisis. First I took my stepdaughter there with abdominal pains, they said she was fine, hours later her appendix burst. I went in after a car accident, they said I was fine without an X-ray, turned out I had herniated a disc. Now I went in because of coughing up blood, they said probably just sinusitis, went back to my doctor and I have pneumonia. I'd only ever go here again unless there was absolutely no other option. read more

This place and a new location right off 92 are very helpful in my life with 2 small kids and not enough time for anything. They are open late in the evening and weekends. Usually I don't wait more than 20-30 min and they take my insurance (BCBS). The co-pay is $15, same as my primary care but no need for an appt in advance. During the last visit, X-ray on my daughter's hand was done in 10 min, e-mailed to the doctor to check it out and we went home 20 min later since she did not need a cast. read more

I took my daughter here after she hurt herself from falling off her bed. There was a large bump on her collarbone and I was almost certain that it was broken. We saw Dr. Garraway when we got there, he ordered x-rays, and then informed us that it was not broken, and that everything was fine. I was in such disbelief that I immediately took her to A.I. DuPont afterwards, at which point they ordered x-rays, and informed me that she had a fairly bad break of her collarbone. I couldn't believe that they had missed it at Silverside, even the doctors at the children's hospital were shocked when I told them. This place is wonderful when you need a doc off hours/on weekends. However, I will never go again when a DR. HORATIO JONES is on duty. He is the most arrogant, ignorant doctor I have ever come into contact with. The problem was that I needed a pain pill and he jumped to the defense as though I was trying to pull the wool over his eyes just to get high or sell the pills for a profit. DEAR MCFLY: PEOPLE DO PRESENT WITH REAL PAIN. It does not mean you need to get your pants in a bunch and automatically assume the worst case scenario.
