I will only stay here next time I am in Bristol which will be this spring. We didn't not try the Michelin star restaurant for exploring the city and eating out however the bar was lovely. Marcel one of the bartenders although they closed at 11 if we were still enjoying ourselves along with other patrons he would keep the bar open longer; so accommodating. Also there were times I had leftovers that I would wake up wanting and the front desk would warm them up for me. Our room was clean and even when sleeping in it didn't matter that I got up after 2pm they still ensured our bedding was changed and fresh towels. This place is gorgeous bummer that they no longer have the spa and pool on the ground level but I understand it can be pricey to maintain.

She was eating celery sticks, and staring at something on her screen; hopefully nothing obscene, but who can say with these kinds of people? Anyway, she appeared not to have noticed me so I clacked my heels on the floor, and the reverberating echo which rippled through the foyer startled the lass and she quietly screamed. After she had recovered from her shock, she had become angered, and made little effort to conceal it. I told her that I was here for a hotel room and she said "yes I think I figured that part out thanks" before typing with her keyboard. Eventually she assigned me to a room without saying anything else to me, just handing the key card over without another word. The key card was greasy and almost slid out of my hand. That did mean that it slid into the sensor with ease, however, so this I cannot complain about. That being said, I would have probably preferred to have just stayed in the hallway and tried my luck with the mercy of the other guests. The room was about as sanitary as a swamp on a humid summer day, and I tried to make sure that I did not touch any of the surfaces as they looked diseased. The bed had a disturbing morphology and, upon further inspection, I found it's undulating crevices to be distressed. There was also a dead bee in the sink. I put the bee out of the window to decompose in the natural world, but then I could not close the window no matter how hard I pulled. My room had suddenly become an access-all-hours, free-for-all for the opportunists of society. You won't be surprised to learn that I didn't sleep very much on the lumpen, deformed and gravelly mattress. I decided to purchase the breakfast buffet, and went down to the restaurant area wearing a business woman outfit and heels so no one would question why I was dining alone. I should have turned around and sought alternative victuals after glimpsing the wretched nature of the diners. Their levels of physical fitness and mental acuity were subterranean, which reflected poorly on the breakfast foods. The scrambled eggs were fibrous, and the coffee that I had been so foolish as to sample tasted as if it had been brewed in a nuclear reactor. I knew at this point that I needed to get out of the hotel as soon as possible and never return.

Inside, the rooms are finished nicely with everything you would expect from a posh hotel. Rooms were spotless, and room service was very prompt and friendly. Receptionists seem to actually enjoy their job unlike most who are more interested in Facebook. They are very helpful in recommending touristy places to visit and how to get there. The phase 'never judge a book by it's cover' has never been so relevant.

It's a bit of a warren inside, I got lost on the way back from the gym, and ended up on my floor, but the opposite side. But it adds to the character. The rooms are gorgeous, big comfy beds, quirky chairs and classic touches. My bathroom was clean and modern, and very roomy. The aforementioned gym is well stocked with very modern equipment. A bit warm with no aircon that I could feel, but it's in one of the old bank vaults which weren't designed to be cool I guess! The spa looked amazing too - I didn't use it but was seriously tempted. The jacuzzi looked like bliss and the people in it at the time had beaming smiles, so I assume they were having a good time. Yet to try the cocktail bar or restaurant - if I do I'll update the review! Overall impressions are great, I'll absolutely be coming back here when I'm next down on business (or pleasure...)

The rooms were probably the most nicely decorated of anywhere I stayed in the UK on this trip. There is a small kitchen downstairs where you can pay for breakfast. The staff are very friendly. I think the best part was definitely the extremely convenient location. The gated entrance to the hotel basically drops right off at st nicholas market...an outdoor hallway basically with permanent food stands. We ate here all 3 days in Bristol and the food is super delicious and affordable.

So in 1874 renamed "The Grand Hotel" and now is called Mercure Bristol Grand Hotel. Outside of Hotel continues to exhibit the grand style of Italianate Renaissance style that was constructed of limestone ashlar. Hotel is located a short distance from St John's Arch, one of the original gateways to Bristol. I stayed for 3 nights, though pool and fitness room were closed due to Covid restrictions and lack of staffing, in very comfortable room on 1st floor level... So no grand view. My room was tidied up daily which was lovely!! Also they provide shampoo and shower gel along with tea and coffee in room- Electric tea pot. Iron, ironing board and hair dryer. Note: no wash cloths so bring your own. Restaurant in Hotel is called Keeper that provides full bar and balance meals on menu. English Breakfast bar for 10# when you have hotel room or 15# other wise mate. Quite of variety for buffet but I give it 3 stars as wait time for breakfast items to refill so breakfast took a bit more time. Staff service is pleasant and kind even with mask restrictions. The window wouldn't open so it was either suffocate in a stuffy room or deal with the noisy AC. One of the elevators wasn't working, the one that did, periodically smelled like sewage and they were both missing buttons. On a positive note, the hotel was in a good location, did have parking (which was very tight) and was next to the Registry Office. We won't be staying here again when we return to Bristol.

The hotel has got steep stairs and to add to your misery, there is no elevator. You have to pay for wi-fi, which seems to be an obsolete practice in circa 2014, planet Earth. I had a meeting in Clifton, and on my way back, felt a little thirst and hunger. So, I entered the hotel and asked the receptionist, the location of the bar. He reacted in such a manner, as if I just have committed a heinous crime. Instead of showing me the way, which is supposedly what, he gets paid for, he started interrogating me, whether I am a guest of not, where I am coming from, and such. I tried to be polite, answered that I am not a guest. Then, he started scanning me, as if, this is a guests only place. I started loosing my cool, I asked where is the bar again. He was probably too tired, to speak, he pointed me the way. I enter. The bar is small. Only Guinness and Stella are on draught (WHAT????) The food was nothing special. They boast of a secret garden, but there is nothing like that. I mean, you don't call that a garden. The tables are surprisingly small. To add up to the trouble, parking outside is limited only to 10 spaces! The toilet was unclean. The outside tables and chairs were dripping wet. The two stars is only for the staff ( excluding the Receptionist), who were pleasant. This is overlooking the fact, that the lady in the bar, who served me, did not know how to serve a Stella. The Manager was just beside and she wasn't even bothered to show her how to serve a beer, for which they are charging a £4.50. Ah, they don't give you a receipt, until and unless, you ask for one, and even if they do, that's probably not yours, as I received someone else's instead of mine! Not, at all, value for anything, leave aside, money. And yes, I am not going back.

The design included a super ingenious shower mechanism whereby the shower door swung inside! Also good quality loo paper was used! The bed was a delight - firm and comfortable. But my friend who was traveling along complained it was too hard for him, so guess that's individual tastes. Breakfast was a treat! They had menu items I had never seen before on a Hilton breakfast menu. One option was Kippers which my brother and I tried out and split. It was basically a very omega rich fish in lemon and butter. The other option was a hot smoked salmon with scrambled eggs on a brioche bun. Gosh - I received a massive helping of this and while tasty, just couldn't finish off the plate! You get a lot of food (& protein) if you decided to get this breakfast menu option. I also really liked the waffles! Loved that the waffle design had the Hilton logo. Staff at reception were great-provided us with map and excellent directions on how to head to the Bristol City center via the Temple Church and Gardens, which are located right behind this hotel. Well I know this sounds strange, but I am actually quite fond of the travel lodge in the centre of…read moretown. Not least because it has meant my family and friends have been able to stay cheaply and in relative comfort, while I was at uni. My mum thinks this Travelodge, is one of the better ones in the country and she lives abroad so has stayed in a fair few. The rooms are large and clean and have all the necessary comforts, apart from the lack of stuffing in the pillows, you really couldn't ask for more for your money. The staff are friendly and helpful 24 hours a day and the added bonus of the bar/café, means you do not have to settle for the rather limited 'breakfast in your room' option. Finally it is well placed for the main attractions, such as @Bristol, the cathedral and the various shopping centres and transport links.

Intimately designed in rich earthy tones with a separate lounge area and 42 inch plasma TV. Upstairs in the bathroom you'll find twin roll top baths and a walk-in monsoon shower. I admit the rooms may be slightly pricey but the luxury of this suite is worth every penny! As the complimentary toiletries smell lovely, there are Egyptian Cotton sheets on the bed, the monsoon walk-in shower is so refreshing, I've never felt so clean in my life! Once a year we travel over here but not to visit Bristol town centre but to this hotel as this is one of my favourites! We always have issues with parking but there is off street parking available!

The wine cellar is set in the old smoking room which is brilliant to have a peak at as you see bottles of '62 Perignon and the finest wines from across the world. 10/10 would recommended the beef Bourgogne with a match deep burgundy red, just ask the Sommelier - they'll sort you out! Give it a go it's a great place and not too expensive and the hotel rooms, I've been told, are to die for!
