Do not recommend. Please see the attached pictures from my last visit. Last September, we were expecting a traditional room in the main inn, but we were assigned a staff room. Yes, we still paid full price. When I complained, I was basically told to go away by the front desk clerk. After I had been treated like *I* was being a jerk (hanging my head in disgust realizing I had prepaid for two nights), I noticed the carpet on stairs from the lobby to second floor looked like it hadn't been vacuumed in over a week. In our room, we were issued a power strip... in a 100-year-old wooden hotel that has already burned down once, what could go wrong? We had a very rustic bathroom with a plastic shower curtain and dirty tub. Very cheap soap and shampoo. Continental breakfast had dishes piling up in dining room and the food service area was not being tidied. Clay tennis court had weeds growing around it and the net was removed. The pool area had cushions strewn all over the walking area. Overall, a real disappointment for us.

Won't return. It is at the west side of the Mount Desert Island, which is far less popular than their east side Bar Harbor. Their Main Street is short, sweet and one way only. The restaurant is at the namesake inn, which opens May to October only. Unfortunately it's a little windy and cold, they closed the deck. Our table is by the window. The view of NE Harbor is nice. Good service. Good food - crab cake is good. Overall, food is on the expensive side. A cup soup costs $11 - the same price at Bar Harbor Inn buys you a bowl. The Aveleda white is pretty good tho. A persistent fly just won't leave us alone. Bathroom is a floor below, it has no soap. Fake purple flower... Cross the street is their garden which is really worth your time.

Came here for a destination wedding and had a five star experience! The staff at this place was incredible! The grounds are beautiful as you can see from the pictures! We stayed at the cranberry lodge which after some research has been here since the 1900s. There isn't any air conditioning but they do provide fans that you can stick onto the windows. :) The Restaurant is wonderful. We had breakfast there several times during our stay. It's a all you can eat breakfast. Complimentary coffee which was delicious. I definitely got a cup to go as we embarked on our adventures for the day. The dinner was delicious and you have to have the popovers and berry crumble. Can't beat Maine blueberries!!! The dinner at the wedding was also phenomenal. Can you say Maine Lobster?! Even the steak I got was amazing. There is on site laundry service that is $15 a bag. It was ready the next day. We really needed this because we had been traveling for two weeks with small children. Now the staff- the service was incredible! Everyone was so friendly and helpful. They gave us a great route to take when we did the National Park. When I needed towels, blankets, soap, etc, they came very promptly! During the reception the same staff brought us drinks and appetizers! Excellent service!

This inn gets two stars for the price. Don't go in expecting luxury and you won't be disappointed. It's very old and well-worn, but the views and the price are in-line with each other. The staff are welcoming, but bucolic; the rooms are well-worn, but have a great view; and the restaurant is terrible (see my review on that), but convenient. The hotel was made for a different time and should be completely remodeled for modern times. I am 5'2 and could sit on the toilet and brush my teeth in the sink at the same time. I'm not sure how my 6'2" husband made it work.

We drove from Boston and it is our first time in ME. The staff is very friendly and welcoming! The room we had reserved was not what we thought (our fault for looking at the wrong picture), but the hotel manager and front desk staff were very friendly and solved our problem right away! We are highly satisfied and looking forward to coming back to Asticou Inn! They definitely made our first trip to Maine a great experience! I highly recommend this hotel. Very child friendly too!

Atlantic salmon with horseradish crust, spinach and quinoa

The popovers were so good that we had two rounds! We both had salmon with horseradish crusted topping, spinach and quinoa - it was a great combination. We were sitting outside looking at the beautiful harbor and even saw a bald eagle flying by. Highly recommended but make sure to make reservations ahead of time.

Terrible food! Soggy lobster rolls. And the flat breads were dismal. Don't go there for food...but the views are nice.

Best lobster stew we've ever had, and we're from Maine! And the lobster popover was unreal! Also the dessert is a must.

Ordered the popovers to go. Cold, dry, unimpressive. Not pleased. They are low key pretentious. Didn't dig the vibe

In between the harbor and motel are some nice views of the expansive lush green lawn. With hills in the background rounding out this splendid scene -which I always enjoyed (see the pic attached with this review) it also has a nice outdoor swimming pool (you'll have to catch a very warm day to use the pool, given this is Maine!) and an excellent breakfast-lunch-dinner restaurant that includes patio dining overlooking the harbor. it offers clean, spacious motel rooms, most with a private balcony and a splendid view of the Town's Green and Harbor. Colonels Suites - Bed upon arrival in Queen Suite

    Colonels Suites

I will give a solid three stars on this hotel. Upon arrival I learned that you have to check in at…read morethe bakery as there was a big sign on the side of the building. I went to a girl in the bakery who checked us in and gave me one key (there's three of us) and breakfast vouchers. However she did not smile and a was bit unenthusiastic . I asked what her name was and and she said it really quickly. It almost sounded like Sonoma Sahara and she abruptly said, "it doesn't matter I'm just a girl at the bakery." Excuse me but I just gave my personal information to "Just a Girl at the Bakery". I couldn't figure out if I should feel sorry for her low self-esteem issues or just because she has no customer service skills whatsoever. She also made it very clear that the bakery was separate from the suites. Anyhow, I managed to find my room on the side of the building up the stairs and it was in fact, nicely clean and the bathroom and the kitchenette granite tiles were very decent. However the sofa-bed had no sheets just a holey brown blanket. And the shower tub had a problem draining effectively. I notified the owners upon checking in and I am happy to say that the turnaround time to solve these issues happened reasonably quick. However, housekeeping just plopped the sheets and didn't bother making the sofa bed. Here's a clue you want a housekeeping tip... do your job. I paid $510.12 for two nights at a queen suite. I certainly feel I should get proper service. There is free parking for 2 hours in the front of the building but you have to go around the block and go to an unpaved parking lot to leave your car there overnight. There is a stairway on the back of the building to return to your suite. Breakfast was delightful I really like the fact that you have free full breakfast here. You have a couple of for breakfast selections with coffee, tea, milk turn juice. I had eggs and sausages and my daughter have blueberry pancakes. However there's an extra charge for real maple syrup. Also, Rob the server was so personable and honestly wonderful! He really made my stay there fulfilling and worthwhile. My husband and daughter thought he was cool too... I honestly wish he checked us in train the rest of the staff to be welcoming like him. The good convenient part of this stay is there is a restaurant bar and bakery in the same building. The baked goods are decent I had the glazed donuts that were good. Tea selection in coffee are limited and very basic. At the bar, the bartender is very pleasant I forget what her name is but she is very sweet. Dinner with surprisingly good. I actually enjoyed their 6 oz skip Burger which was cooked exactly as requested medium and let me tell you I was shocked to taste her flavorful this burger is. Our server said they made their patties there... Yum. Margherita pizza seem tasty because they make their own crust. Lobster and scallop casserole were decent came with delicious green beans. The suite also had coin laundry on the common area. No detergent dispenser which is a bit inconvenient and no change machine so you're on your own there. Also there was a girl who claims to work for the owners who sits by the laundry machines daily having her clam chowder. It made my husband uncomfortable as he kept going back and forth to the laundry machine checking on his undergarments he decided to break the awkwardness and have small talk and learn she was from Russia. Here's my constructive advice as a former travel agent and HR corporate trainer. It is important to have a point person at the bakery in charge of welcoming suite guests. After all, you share the same "Colonels" name so never tell anybody that you're separate from them it causes a lot of confusion. Or at least train all the staff at the bakery to be welcoming and SMILE. Also, someone should notify us that there is a orientation guide when you get into the suite. Secondly, housekeeping needs to be trained to make sure all bedding so fun and the beds are intact and even see if the water is going down in the tub. This would prevent all disasters and leakages in the building. I don't mind coming here again and I do truly believe that this has the potential of being a 4 star rating. Honestly, all it takes is welcoming person like Rob to make everyone happy.
