This was an absolutely lovely place to stay while on vacation on Mount Desert Island. The cabin was redone fully so the interior was all wood. It smelled amazing and was so clean. It was the most luxurious place I'd ever stayed! Tucked off the main street in Southwest Harbor, this is a quiet little spot with well maintained grounds and amazingly organized cabins. Top notch bed and pillows. It's about a twenty minute drive to Bar Harbor, but it's easy and quick once you get the feeling of the layout. The "office" has extra swimming towels, movies, and books about Acadia. It's really awesome how the owners, Tom and Vickie, care about their customers. A downside was barely seeing the owners! We went in during their office hours but didn't see them. We received an invoice, and I was sad to not chat within our 48 hours of staying there. The 10am check out also was pretty brutal. You also clean your own cabin, which is okay, but we made breakfast and tea- doing dishes while packing up and paying the expensive price before 10? That was not great. It's pricey here, but it's so luxurious and beautiful, it's worth the splurge. read more

We loved staying at Acadia Cottages! We visited Mount Desert/Acadia National Park to celebrate our anniversary and since we don't like being in crowded areas, Southwest Harbor was the perfect location for us! The previous times we've visited Mount Desert was camping and we didn't want to camp this time. Easy to find. The cottages are set back from the main road, which you can hear but it's not a highway and it's quiet during the night and morning. We stayed in cottage 5, which is a studio with a view of a forested area. The studio was perfect for the two us but had we brought our kids, it would have been tight! The studio had all the amenities needed (dishes, sink, fridge, stove top, microwave, soap, towels, etc.) and we enjoyed eating breakfast and making lunch everyday. Having a place to call "home" for a week and not having to eat out for every meal was nice (and a money saver). (We stopped at Walmart in Ellsworth before arriving to the island to get breakfast/lunch food). When we arrived, we met the owner and he provided many eating options and let us know when cruise ships would be in Bar Harbor. He also pointed to their library of area guide books, which we borrowed and were nice to have. The cottage is within walking distance of "downtown" Southwest Harbor which we took full advantage of often. The bakery and other restaurants within walking distance were nice. Island Bound Treats is the best pie place, we ate it for breakfast! Walking to Beals was a bit far but after a long car ride, it was a nice walk. We visited Acadia NP everyday and enjoyed how we were close to everything. Bar Harbor is so touristy and busy, we were glad that we could visit and then come back to quiet SW Harbor. Loved Acadia Cottages! My fiance and I stayed in a one bedroom cabin, with a full kitchen & outdoor patio. We ended up working during the week (WiFi was stable) and doing fun activities at night and on the weekends. The cottage was extremely clean and had all the amenities you need (kitchenware, towels, extra blankets, etc.). Laurie and John were easy and nice to deal with. I interacted mostly with Laurie, and just met John during check-in. It was an easy process and leading up to our stay, they were very communicative about their COVID-19 procedures. To be honest, I didn't know that I was booking a cottage in Southwest Harbor (also known as the quietside). However, this turned out to be a pleasant surprise! There are so many amazingly delicious restaurants right off the main street, lots of hiking trails to explore, and a nice beach area (with a full changing room / bathroom) on a lake. I would definitely stay here again if we are in the area! read more

This place is an absolute gem hidden with quieter side of Acadia National Park. It was a perfect respite away from NYC. My one room cabin was extremely clean, quiet and had everything I needed. They let we borrow a larger pot so I could cook lobster every night. I have been recommending this place to all my friends who are looking for a calm and peaceful getaway. IMPORTANT: The name here on Yelp is incorrect--if you're looking for "Acadia Cabins," you'll pass right by this place. It's "Acadia Cottages," and the Yelp marker is also in the wrong place. Look for it by address. The office is in a little cabin itself behind the main house with the sign out front. This is a super cute place to stay in Acadia, a great alternative to the overpriced hotels and other, junky, cottage "communities" set right on the highway. The Acadia Cottages (there are about 20 units) are set back from the road behind a private residence (presumably the home of the owners). I cannot write how CUTE this place is. To get a sense of that, you'll just have to view the photos. We stayed in a "studio" cottage--which is just a king-sized bed, a tiny (but well-equipped) kitchenette, and a bathroom. The cottages all appear newly constructed, and--as the previous reviewer writes--are paneled in a lovely wood that provides the a fresh, woodsy smell to the experience. Staying here would be like roughing it, except the owners have thought of EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERYTHING. Not only do you have a fridge, microwave, 2-burner stovetop, coffeemaker, hot water kettle, cable TV, VCR(!), emergency flashlight . . . but you've got a ton of accessories to go along with it, including a full supply of cookware and flatware, as well as a selection of teas and sweeteners. They even include fresh chocolate/peanut butter-chip cookies on the table when you arrive. It's a 5-minute walk to the shops of downtown Southwest Harbor, and about a 15-minute from downtown Bar Harbor. You're thick in the middle of Acadia, so hiking, biking, and boating, too, are only minutes away. And every cabin has its own little parking space. There is even on-site DIY laundry, free wifi, and two charcoal grills you can borrow from the main office. We really loved our time here. I actually felt like I had been permanently converted to life as a micohome dweller. But, alas, our time at Acadia Cottages had to come to an end. OH--but we'll be back! read more

I loved my time here at Acadia Cottages. It is also known as Acadia Cottages and each little cabin is a little home. The views are of the forest or the pond. Bullfrogs croak all night and sing you to sleep. I thought I saw one as big as my head but that was my imagination. When Gordon, one of the InnKeepers, said that it was only the size of closed fist, I realised that my imagination thought the frog was bigger. Clean, lovely and smelled of wonderful wood, my cabin was a perfect wilderness get away. They were eco conscious and not only recycles but also mulches! I had a great time. read more

We stayed here for three days and regretted not staying somewhere nice in the Bar Harbor area instead. When we checked in we were advised that we probably wouldn't need cleaning services during our 3 day stay (in other words... don't expect any) and the male owner only spoke to my BF, never making eye contact with me once. He was talking to him about parking... assuming that the woman didn't drive?! (It was my car and I drove.) Just not a great first impression. I knew the cabin was outdated but thought the "camping" vibe would be fun, but since we were out all day, we didn't really spend much time at the site. I think we would have preferred a nice bathroom/bedroom instead. Southwest Harbor is fine, but there really isn't much there. I would have preferred to have stayed in Bar Harbor where there are good restaurants and lodgings. After a long day out, it was annoying having to drive back to the cabins. read more

Had a nice stay here and the cottage was great. It was my first stay in Southwest Harbor and it was a nice change of pace. My one gripe was that our shower head broke off when trying to rotate it. When I explained this and asked for the repair, Tom seemed happy to help. He fixed it while we were away the next day and texted me once it had been completed. However, he did charge us for the repair without notifying. And it just seemed kind of petty to charge us for something like this, especially considering that it was a quick swap. I would recommend this place to other friends of mine but I will share this story. You might want to be a bit be wary of the owners nickel and dime-ing you. read more

Absolutely LOVED our stay here. Beautiful little log cabins equipped with everything you could possibly need...a stove, refrigerator, plates and cutlery. Fresh baked cookies waiting on the table were a really nice touch. Only draw back is these cottages are on the other side of the island away from Bar Harbor and the main Acadia National Park entrance. (Only a 15min drive away though). I am hesitant to post this review because this is the type of hidden gem that you don't really want to get too discovered. We spent 3 nights here and I think I had some of the best sleep of my life - the setting is so quiet and peaceful, and the recently renovated cabins are cozy, clean, and very inviting. The owners are extremely cordial and went out of their way to make us comfortable. SW Harbor and the surrounding area still feels like Maine used to be. We can't wait to come back. But you should probably just go stay in Bar Harbor! :) read more

Stayed here for two nights and it was great. It was clean, cozy, and John and Laurie the owners are nice and helpful. It was our fist time to Acadia so John showed us a map of the popular spots to go hiking and Laurie was kind enough to print out our park pass for our car. They also have grills and games to borrow, which is a plus. Just a 25 min drive from Bar Harbor, these cabins are a perfect place stay. read more

We spent 2 nights at Acadia Cottages and had a great experience. The cottage was cute, cozy and incredibly well kept/clean. The kitchen area was spacious and fully stocked with all utensils, pots and pans, dishes, etc. The bed was extremely comfortable. One of our favorite parts of the cabin was the electric fireplace mounted on the wall which added to the overall cozy cottage experience. Laurie and John were the best. Super friendly and helped answer all our questions about where to hike in Acadia. The cottages are in a great location, close to Acadia National Park hiking trails but also far enough away from the crowded tourist areas. I have stayed here on four separate occasions, always in September. Acadia cottages is in walking distance to food and services of southwest harbor. Though on Main Street the cottages are back in the trees, and up the road so you do not hear road noise. Free wifi or use of a computer in the common room. Cottages have cute interiors, comfortable beds, and many amenities: refrigerator, stove top, microwave, stocked kitchen, TV (have never used it), radio, private baths w/ showers, and bistro table with 2 chairs. I also like the outdoor porches. The only drawback to staying here is that they do allow smoking on the property. Once that prevented us from opening our windows because our cottage neighbor smoked often and that smoke wafted into our cottage. We had to always keep our windows closed even when the weather was beautiful. Another time while enjoying breakfast on the porch in the morning someone decided to have a morning smoke and we were choked out and chased indoors. read more

My fiancé and I recently stayed in cottage 8 and it was simply lovely! I can't say enough great things about this place. It is located on what's known as the quiet side and that is 100% true. It was a very tranquil place to stay. The cottage was super cute and clean. They have a wonderful lending library with movies, books, rain gear, etc... I love that we could cook in the cottage if we wanted to, but were also close enough to some eateries. I also love that they compost there. Everyone we encountered on the grounds were lovely. The cottages are close enough to go hiking or to go to Bar Harbor, which is a more touristy area. We would definitely stay there again and I've recommended it to a few friends that want to go to Acadia National Park! read more

I looked around online for a place to stay in Maine. This was my wife's and my first time visiting bar harbor and I am so glad I found this place. Our cottage (#2) was amazing! Pine walls and ceiling and electric fire place. We are really home bodies so having a place to just relax all the time was important. Everything was clean and pretty much new. They welcomed us with cookies and flowers for our anniversary. We also found out our cottage had a screened in porch to sit on. They also provide you with everything you need! Paper towels, toilet paper, cooking utensils, dishes, hand soap, everything. This was a great vacation and I got to say having a nice quiet place to come home to was really great. They also compost and recycle which we were used to at home so that also was a great discovery. Thank you Tom and Vickie so much! My friend and I stayed at the Acadia Cottages for 5 days and 4 nights. It is perfect for the area. Not only are the owners very nice and helpful but the cottage is VERY CLEAN and has all of the basic amenities you need. I will definitely choose my future Acadia National Park stays there and NOT look anywhere else. The price was great too! They also have a fire pit for your use or twice a week the owner builds a fire for all to come and relax by. VCR's not DVD's are there but TV was sufficient since we didn't do much but relax briefly and sleep in the room. The cottage was perfectly nestled in the woods enough to feel private yet safe with our own little front porch. Even had a little bistro set to sit on! For those interested in staying in that vicinity- watch your food bills! Eating out is very expensive. The cottage has a small kitchenette and we did cook breakfast and 2 dinners there. Of course we wanted MORE lobster so we asked for the lobster pots and they accommodated us with the lobster pot and pasta pot. THIS IS A MUST STAY!! read more

I can't say enough about the amazing experience we had staying in cottage 4 at Acadia Cottages! My husband and I have had nightmare experiences with vacation rentals in the past but this changed it all for us. When i had initially inquired about a reservation I received a very prompt response from Vicki, one of the owners. Though the cottage we had our eye on was booked we were offered a comparable one at a discount. We went with a queen studio instead and we were not disappointed. We were warmly greeted upon arrival, check in was smooth and easy. Knowing that we were there to celebrate our wedding anniversary they surprised us with home made cookies and complimentary champagne! So thoughtful and really a nice gesture. The cottage is so quaint and cozy, tiny but just perfect for a romantic weekend. The place was immaculate! Well kept and with anything you could possibly need made available to you. It is perfectly located, allowing you to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet of southwest harbor while only being a 15 to 20 minute drive to Acadia and Bar Harbor. Laundry is available on site, super convenient and something we took advantage of. The owners stock each cottage with natural soaps and provide a green environment, complete with compost - also something we appreciate. This by far beats staying in an overpriced hotel any day. Very reasonable and with great service and amenities. A great find for us, we can't wait to come back. read more
