My husband and I went for their happy hour specials in May. The happy hour specials are normally for the bar area only. My husband is disabled and unable to sit at the bar. We had asked if we still could get the specialty pricing for appetizers. We were told not at this time, by the manager. We have gone many times before and they have honored the pricing. Very disappointed! Mediocre at best....hopefully time will help make things better here. Hoffman Estates location will definitely be getting my business instead. Ordered the onion strings (extra crispy) and when they came out the first time (after 20 minutes) they were raw. One of the Managers actually brought them out. We asked him to have them cooked more. Less than thrilled, he obliged. He brought them back out a few minutes later. Didn't even say are these ok....just threw them down and walked away. They were not even edible. They were just pure grease and not crispy at all. Our server got dealt a poor hand and was sat his entire section at basically the same time. Not his fault. But, he took our order and never came back. No refills on drinks, no how's things, not even a look in our direction. Our main entrees finally made it out to us at 55 minutes after we ordered. We had to ask for the food to go since we needed to be somewhere. Food that came out wasn't right either. To add fuel to the fire, they charge a 3% fee to use a credit card. We tried this place for the first time today and had the double pretzel appetizer, the mushroom cheese burger, blue cheese burger withcarrot cake and cheese cake for dessert. Jennifer was our server and from the ambience to the food to the service, we were VERY pleased with the entire experience. We were not rushed, but anytime we looked for our waitress she was already on the way. We sat outside and just felt so relaxed on the patio. Visited the Assembly in West Dundee last night.. We were able to sit outside... very nice and well built for the various Chicago weather elements... heaters and fans all equipped...Fire pit also to hang with friends... Inside the bar classic set up grill within bar grab a burger and a beer... Started off with the the combo app platter... curds, skins and mozzarella cheese triangles. 3 of the 4 of us had the classic Bionic Burger.. me just a plain burger and bun... Desert to go cheesecake with side of chocolate. Food was hot, fresh and darn right good... Service... We had Becky she was in training and she rocked it...Mario was her coach. They were both very attentive and made our night fun.... She carded my son and he was so excited he got carded as he does not get carded often or at all.... We will be back again with more family and friends. And once the kids go back to college we will have a place at the bar and order the burger from the bar. On of my favorite experiences with the assembly was back in the day... Go to Assembly before a concert at Popular Creek... those were the days... My favorite current experience is the staff he has at the Hoffman location is they have been there for years...and they are always smiling... 3rd visit here! While our first two had "slightly slow service" yet everything else was great- this visit was perfect! I really love the interior of this place and really like the food! One of the better restaurants to get a good bite of food at! I'm happy service was quicker this time and very attentive. I have a feeling based off my original and other reviews they fixed that issue. It's a "newer" place yet - let them settle in and get adjusted people! Don't kill the reviews over slower service. Staff is always really friendly including the manager who i spoke with a few times. She is very nice! We'll continue to be back every few weeks! Good food. Good cocktails. Went there a few days ago with a buddy of mine after we just got off work so we were EXHAUSTED, we were sat with Jackie which by the way she was so sweet and amicable. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because the food is good but the waitress Coco is not good at all. When she asked what we wanted to drink me and my friend asked what high noons they had she said "peach and mango" to which I responded with I will have a peach high noon. She bring me a peach Moscow mule. I don't say anything because maybe I was in the wrong or she didn't hear me correctly. So once I finish peach Moscow mule I ask for a peach high noon she brings me a peach white claw. So then I say something about it and she was not nice about it. After that she brings me a watermelon highnoon. She messed up a simple drink 3 times. Definitely will be choosing another place after this whole ordeal where i know they won't slam my drink after me being so nice about letting it slide the couple time. i can't drink white claws because of the malt liquors, it gives me an allergic reaction. read more

I know its hard finding good help now days but they are understaffed and service is just too slow. But the food is good. One strong complaint I have is the lighting. It's all wrong !! I work in the film and television industry doing lighting..... and if theres one thing I know its lighting. This Assembly it's way too bright! The color temperature of the fixtures are wrong, and some of the lighting is mis-directed. Lighting sets mood and the mood here is sterile and bright. It should be warm and cozy. read more

My family and I have tried the Dundee location twice. I had been to the Hoffman Estates location several years ago and had enjoyed the burger which they were known for. Unfortunately, the magic appears to have been lost. The burgers are below average. Put more plainly, given the choice between a Culver's burger and one from this location, I would choose Culver's. The service was average, though we encountered some awkwardness the most recent visit when they changed servers on us after one complained to the manager that she was not being given tables. The place was more than half empty so it was probably a tough night tip-wise. The atmosphere is pleasant, but given the food, I don't plan to return until I hear good things. read more

I ordered a reuben sandwich and when I picked it up to take my first bite I noticed most of the bread was missing. I alerted the waitress who's response was, what do you me to do? Out of the 3 meals we ordered only 1 was correct. Very disappointing especially for the price. Well, we sat in a corner booth which works for us. As we are sitting there, a giant black ant falls on our table and starts crawling around. Ok...not a huge deal, it can happen at the best restaurants. Then about ten minutes later, another giant ant falls on my wife's head. Now it seems like a problem. After bringing this to the waitress's attention...she comes back and says "we'll, we have a service that sprays". I guess that was good?! The orders were taken after some time and came out missing condiments etc. The person who brought the food was very helpful in correcting. We saw the waitress twice and had to flag down others for drink refills. When it was time to pay the bill the waitress disappeared. We sat for 20 minutes and noticed that our waitress was on the other side of the restaurant serving what looked like a private party. I finally gave my credit card and check to another waitress that I watched go set it down it next to a register. We continued to wait, I finally found a manager and he eventually brought my card and receipt back. I only ordered the lightly breaded zucchini appetizer and even 2 days later it feels like there's a rock in my stomach. I'm having horrible cramping and no medication under the sun has helped. The zucchini bites weren't crisp and relatively soggy. I ordered an aperol spritz as well and it tasted like they mixed orange soda with club soda. What happened to The Assembly I grew up eating at? Yes I know it wasn't the original location, but still the same owner. The burgers still look as pretty as I remembered, but have hardly no taste! The pretzel bun was not toasted or even warmed! $20 bucks for a tasteless gourmet burger? My wife's chicken sandwich was almost inedible and rubber like and also served on a non toasted or warmed pretzel bun. The service was decent and the sweet potato fries were very good! Sadly I have to agree with most of the reviews posted here and was hoping that they were wrong. The next time we are back in area, we will be traveling a little further north to our all-time favorite burger spot in Cary. I hope The Assembly gets its act together again because it was so good for so many years. read more

The only reason I have an extra start is because EVERYONE was friendly and nice. Had a drink at the bar, and that experience was great as experienced in my previous visits. Other than the people and bar, the food and execution of a meal was horrible. I've been to this location a few times and Hoffman Estates several times. I am not sure what has changed but here are the list of challenges they must overcome before I visit again. We ate there on Friday night @7:00 pm on July 19. The location was less than 1/2 full. 1) The bathroom had wet paper towels, all over the floor, sitting water on the sink area and the soap dispensers were empty or broken. Very gross. Someone needs to check on bathroom periodically. 2) Made a reservation. Asked to be seated outside. Hostess said it would be 15 minutes due to staffing (understandable). We chose inside and were seated next to the door and assigned a server from outside. Very frustrating. Hostess training required. 3) Our drinks were empty for the entirety of the meal and asked for refill when we were nearly done. This should NEVER happen. Server training required. 4) I will only comment about my hamburger and not speak for the table. The burger was ordered medium, it was delivered charred on the outside, cooked through, and had ZERO flavor other than my next point. I cut my burger in 1/2. The first 1/2 was as I described. The second 1/2 tasted off. I took the meat patty out, cut it with my fork and smelled it. It was DEFINITELY OFF. Clearly not fresh. I didn't finish my meal. Someone needs to do a beef quality check daily and confirm expiration dates. 5) The serving staff is not experienced and I assume the kitchen staff may be the same. I could see people standing around and talking behind the bar area in the food pickup area next to the kitchen. The location is staffed by immature young adults, not servers. Hiring is understandable difficult, but bad hiring or lack of training will sink a location. I do hope the location can take corrective action but we will not return until I see a trend of positive reviews or hear action has been taken. read more

We were excited to go to this place. It was our first time. The place looked really nice. Completely different from the old Chilli's that used to be there. But, the service was horrible and the food was either bad or not made right. The cheese curds were burnt and the fried pickles were really greasy with the ranch spilled all over. It was a warm day so we all just had water but we didn't get it until after we received the appetizers and asked another server. My wife originally asked for lemon with her water so she asked our server for it. He came with 3 lemons inserted in a stick like a barbie then dumped it in her water. It was rudely hilarious. Met some people here for dinner on a recent Saturday in November. I noticed immediately the restaurant was uncomfortably cold. A quick look around showed that maybe 85% of their patrons kept their coats and jackets on. I would have left at that point but figured if they're all still here maybe the food is really good. It wasn't. The Assembly is supposed to be known for their great hamburgers and $19 bought me one of them accompanied by a thimbleful of coleslaw and some potato salad that I opted for instead of French fries. The burger was large for sure at 10 ounces, but it was 10oz of tastelessness. For that price I'd expect some beef flavor to be in there. My burger also had thick melted slices of cheddar cheese on it. I'm not sure how, but the cheese was also flavorless and did nothing for the burger. I did like the potato salad. Our waitperson was personable and knowledgeable of the menu but overall service was sluggish from start to finish. If you're looking for very overpriced tasteless burgers and a refrigerator-like climate in the fall and winter months this is the place for you. Almost forgot.... they add a 3% surcharge on your bill if you pay by credit card which is a real turn-off in any restaurant. You'll pay the inflated prices listed on the menu alright but only if you pay cash. The owner of this establishment repeatedly has the same comments for negative reviews posted here - like "Sorry we disappointed you, please give us another chance" or "I'll speak to the kitchen/staff about your tasteless food" or "Our team dropped the ball that night". Yeah right. No, I will not be returning to the Assembly for a meal or give another chance to disappoint me at my expense. read more

We had a fantastic dinner at this place. We started with delicious appetizers and drinks in the bar, loved the fried pickles and cheese curds. The pumpkin fall drink was amazing. We then had dinner in the spacious restaurant where not one but two managers stopped by to check on us. I loved the tilapia rice bowl and my husband said the hamburger and sweet potato fries were excellent. We were too full to eat our dessert there but took home the pumpkin cheesecake which was outstanding! We will definitely go back!! Highly recommend. read more

Hey everyone I was really excited to go to this new bar that supposed ran by a family who passed it on to their children and I walked in the place smelled like pine sol their was trash by the entrance. Originally I came in for interview but then I thought maybe I will get food because I arrived during the happy hour. The crew and staff were really friendly and helpful but the manager on duty was a complete imbecile. I was sitting at the bar for over 30 mins and he walked by not once not twice but 5 times didn't look at me. Did not acknowledge me didn't even welcome a first timer like me to the restaurant. Didn't even offer me anything to drink. I was like I can tell for them being a new location of a very successful restaurant they lack a lot of good customer service traits that 5 star restaurants have instilled already. Oh and the bathroom were a complete horror show so their was no way I could eat after losing my appetite staring at the pissy floors. As far as the interview went let's just saying being a person of multiple ethnicities and being disable vet you will be interrogated rather than heard. YOU WILL BE CRITICIZED RATHER THAN UNDERSTOOD. You will face racial Prejudice rather than be accepted for the quality and content of your character. I definitely didn't feel at ease during my interaction with the happy hour out of shape short hair fellow hair veteran and it felt as if I walked into dictatorship rather than a restaurant! I would give this place 2 out of Five stars the crew and welcome from the ladies and gentlemen on duty was the only phenomenal part of my experience. But since the manager is imbecile a racist to people with dreads and other tribal/cultural hairstyles , a critic, a toxic person, a walking contradiction, and overall a self centered person. I would encourage all people :of African American , Native American, Pacific Islander, Caribbean, Irish, Eskimo, and down to earth people to never visit this place! So I've never tried The Assembly in Hoffman Estates, but heard good things. We were excited that this location recently opened near our house. One of our favorite things about this restaurant was the outdoor patio. Great atmosphere and it was nicely done. Our waitress Allison was excellent. She was friendly and gave us great service. Now onto the food. We went with a bacon and egg burger on a pretzel bun. I would give the food a 3 out of 5. A few adjustments and I think it would be a 5 star meal. My suggestions would be the bun needed to be warmed up some how(grill or steamed). The bacon was undercooked and needed a few more minutes to crisp up. Lastly the hamburger patty needed a bit more of seasoning. The burger lacked flavor but was cooked to our liking. I gave this restaurant 5 stars based on the service and dining area. I feel the food can be easily fixed and I'm being optimistic that those changes can be easily changed. Overall a great experience. read more

AWESOME Oktoberfest event! Activities were fun and inclusive, food was tasty and the service was outstanding. Very friendly staff. I always feel so welcome here and will keep coming back. Then, when I used the bathroom, a server came in and used the toliet but failed to use the sink to wash his hands. The manager asked me about my experience. So disappointing. We were really looking forward to this restaurant opening, and had high hopes, but it was very mediocre. I swear the waiter was high. There is nothing special here and West Dundee has other, better restaurants. Very limited, bar food menu. We ordered drinks and started with the onion strings which were okay. Your usual fare. My husband ordered the burger with bacon and egg, specifically asking for medium. I had the wings with garlic butter. It always concerns me when the food comes out faster than our drinks. It makes me think it's all pre-made and they just nuke it. The burger came rare, not medium, (too quick), came with a small side of not-homemade coleslaw and some weird tasteless sauce with mushrooms, that the server said was cherry mushroom sauce. ???? The wings were juicy which was nice, but lacking flavor. Yeah, yeah, I could have ordered them buffalo or BBQ, but I didn't want that. The wings did not come with anything sides. No coleslaw, no pickles, nothing. You get your choice of ranch or blue cheese dressing and that's it. Here is the kicker: if you pay with a credit/debit card, expect to pay their 3% service charge! Yep they're passing it directly onto the customer. Your receipt will give you two totals: cash or credit with the up charge. This is just bad business to me. So ..... nothing special here. You would be better off going to Squire or Bamboozle's. Skip this one. We won't go back. read more

What an awesome addition to Dundee! We were warmly greeted by the manager and sat at the bar. The first thing I noticed was that the manager was walking around and checking on people. Not just a quick "How is everything", but an actual conversation. He engaged his guests as if they were friends in his home. Of course he stopped by and chatted with us a couple of times too, and it was obvious he really cares! Our food was awesome, and we are digging into our leftovers for lunch today. My quesadilla was packed with yummy chicken, and my husband's giant burger was cooked to perfection. Which leads me to Chrissy the bartender...you guys, she's not just a bartender, but also a chef. A true chef with years of experience! You may or may not know this, but when you order a burger at the bar at The Assembly, the bartender cooks it right there on a grill in front of you. (As a former bartender and server at The Anvil Club, this would make me lose my mind if I had to do that. But Chrissy is a pro!) The burger was a TRUE medium rare...my husband always orders it that way but they always come out over cooked....until Chrissy! We decided to check her schedule so that we can be sure she is there the next time we come in. She is a rock star behind the bar! I've already planned what I'm going to order the next two times we go in. The couple seated next to us was doing the same thing! The menu has lots to choose from, the prices are good, and they have specials including a 4-6 happy hour. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated and has a great vibe. They even have a temperature controlled patio that will be functional in the winter when they install the garage-door walls that roll down. my man took me here on a date and it was an awesome experience. We sat at the bar and Anthony, the manager working, made us burgers right there in front of us and gave us great recommendations. Their red wine burger sauce is unique and delicious and makes an already good burger even better. Don't get me started on their house vodka, it is smooth and can be mixed with anything they have. I have been going to assembly for over 10 years. I was happy to see a new location open up. When I went with my family, the host with a long ponytail (that looks like the capoeira instructor from bobs burgers) sat us down in a spot away from everyone else. Servers walked past and looked at us and not a single person asked if we were being served. We waited for over 20 minutes and we didn't even get drink orders in. I notice the host wandering around the restaurant and on multiple occasions there were groups of people waiting to be seated. After watching a server (not the host) seat a group of people, and seeing them get their orders taken, we decided to leave. Yes I know Friday night 6pm and we were expecting 6 people in our party. we were told when we arrived that it would be an hour wait. She said, can't be as she called at 5:30 and told them 6 were arriving at 6pm was told we could be seated right away. We went in and she told the hostess this, and we got seated right away. Waited a good 5 minutes and finally Preston came to take our drink orders. we gave him our drink orders and advised Preston we were waiting for 2 others but we will order the sampler platter. Appetizers came, no plates, no silverware or napkins given. Flagged down Preston again, advised we had no plates, silverware, napkins. Plates & paper napkins brought, never returned with silverware. 3 of the four of us, beverages were empty; Flag Preston down again, can we get another drink, refill on waters, please. Finally our final guest of our party arrives, we place orders. Those came out fine, other than my husband ordered tator tots and got French fries and my sons Tuna melt he asked for multigrain , came on marble rye. But we still did not get silverware. It wasn't Preston that brought our order, it was another girl, told her we needed silverware.... Sat and waited another 5-6 minutes. Caught Prestons eye again, advised him need silverware. Finally brought. Now normally we are 25-30% tippers, but not this time. Since my brother in law paid the bill, you are lucky you got 15%. A lot of bugs need to be worked out. read more
