The Ashvale is said to serve the finest fish and chips in the United Kingdom. But if this were fact, it seems like a truly fortunate oddity to me because the UK is more or less known as the epicenter of this all-too-often-screwed-up cuisine. Usually, the meal is greasy, and over-breaded and either over or undercooked. At The Ashvale, it was none of this - even the fries were not even slightly oily - I wonder how they do that? If The Ashvale is THE best in the UK, then it must by default be the in the world and by extrapolation therefrom, be the best fish and chips in the known universe. At least, the half dozen or so Scots and Brits I was with said they'd never had better.
I tried the haddock, fries and mushy peas. This meal is not complete without the mushy peas for a variety of reasons, but mostly because I just like the sound of it: mushy peas mushy peas mushy peas...
