The sign on her entrance door says "Dogs not allowed. Service dogs are welcome". So we proceeded in, when to our surprise, were her 3 large dogs. One of which immediately charged the door to attack my service dog. She yelled at us that dogs weren't allowed and we said it's a service dog. When then she said "Most owners announce when they are coming in with a service dog". Well, we were astonished by that comment. We have NEVER had to announce this. So to future patrons: BEWARE!! She does NOT have a sign on her door that says she has not 1, not 2 but 3 large dogs on the other side of that door. Extremely unacceptable by a store owner. read more

If I knew how to create using needles I'd always shop here to find the perfect yarn for that perfect gift. This shop is thoughtful and gorgeously rustic, walls and tables overflowing with skeins of different colors and weights of wool, all labled with the harvest location and some Shepards - this is where you go to find "that one yarn from the wool of that guys/gals sheep". There is a slight midieval feel to the interior - a far cry from your local craft store "yarn wall". It's incredible, and the resident well behaved whippets are an added bonus surprise. read more

The lady ("maybe" owner) was very helpful, although she didn't introduce herself, hence the "maybe". I think intros are a thing of the past ? Well, the yarn shop was super cool and most, if not all, were hand dyed by her. I didn't see knitting needles or other tools in the shop and I didn't get to ask either. However, I wish that she had a free pattern with the yarns that I purchased for my young lady . It is on the pricey side, 2 skeins for approximately $65 (rounded up from a few cents short of the price given). I know my daughter will find the perfect pattern for these beautiful skeins. We will be back when we are in Port Gamble. If you love specialty yarn shops, you will love this place . She wound up the 2 skeins when I asked her to , thank you. read more

Seconding the other reviews, I absolutely love this store. There are good yarn shops in Seattle, but the Artful Ewe is absolutely worth the drive and/or ferry trip. My husband and I stopped in after stuffing ourselves at Mike's BBQ right across the street. I was not planning to buy anything, as my yarn stash is *ahem* healthy. But I pretty much had to buy something after seeing the store (a) filled with gorgeously colored and textured yarn, (b) finding out that the owner spun and dyed all of it (!?!) herself, and (c) getting love licks from the darling store Whippet. I came away with 400 yards of a stunning grey/black wool and silk blend. Unlike a lot of the homemade yarns I see at the farmer's markets, this yarn is soft enough to make into something worn by the skin. I would have bought more - her blues are especially vibrant - and I will, as soon as I budget for a few sweater's worth of her yarn! She has every color you could want, in luscious tones, and unusual fibers, like yak. Definitely coming back asap! read more

The owner is so nice, friendly and knowledgeable and clearly passionate about all things fiber. The shop focuses on locally spun and dyed yarn (she does the dyeing herself), fibers for spinning and spinning supplies and weaving supplies. My bf and I visited this shop on the recommendation from the local yarn shop in sequim. The two dogs in the shop gave us more attention than the shop keeper did. :p there were a lot of yarn there I wanted to buy, but she completely ignored our presence. After walking around for probably 10-15 min of blindly perusing the selection. This store is "yarn heaven" The most beautiful yarns you have ever seen or felt! the owner Heidi, does all of the dyeing herself. heidi is very nice, knowledgeable and very willing to help or advise. the shop also has lots of fibers for spinning too. her quality is the best and prices are very reasonable. Feel free to bring what your working on. Heidi has a corner of her shop devoted to knitting, spinning or chatter. This place has a lot of artisan yarn, spun and dyed by the shop. Beautiful colors and soft yarns, worth the extra cost. I made a cowl out of some silk merino yarn and it is now my favorite thing that I've ever knitted. The woman working there was so friendly and I enjoyed talking with her briefly.
