Our first visit was made during a downtown walkabout daughter and I made early in our stay -- basically, a "let's go and see what's new" visit. While there, I was able to capture photos of some of the displays. No purchases made, but some pottery items put 'in mind', to think and talk about when were back to our room at the motel. We dropped back again later in our stay, and were fortunate to have 'Jenny Wolpert' (one of the artists featured at the gallery), there as the 'volunteer host' at the time. A nice surprise - not only did I know her pottery work from a previous visit's purchase, but it was pieces of her pottery currently being displayed, that were on my mind, and had encouraged me to go back for this additional look!! She was a delight to meet, and I so-enjoyed our chats - about crafting pottery, her particular style, ambitions, et al. I selected, put together, and purchased several lovely pieces of her stoneware pottery - some unique colours, shapes, and designs -- bowls, drinking mugs, wine 'glasses', cream/milk pitcher. They are all home now, and add to, and complement the large bowl I found during our last stay. Fall is here, winter is on it's way -- Jenny's wonderfully-crafted, and lovely stoneware pottery, will be featured in many of our food & drink creations! Sure glad daughter and I made that last visit to the Gallery!!

For us, a stay in Harrison Hot Springs is never complete without a visit to the CanWest Gallery,…read moreand this recent early-December trip, with 3-night stay was no exception. Daughter and I did a stop and shop at the gallery on the last day of our stay. We enjoyed checking out the various offerings, and acquiring specific information on some of the offerings displayed. I had some purchasing thoughts in mind with this visit to the gallery -- gifts were to be for daughter and myself -- not to be Christmas gifts, but more like lasting remembrances of this pre-winter, and pre-holidays stay. I had taken care of Mom's gift earlier that day. When I saw what I thought each of us would like, daughter was asked to "leave", and purchases arranged -- then I caught up with her for more walkabout, and dropped back later for pick up. Everything, including the earlier purchase, was kept under wraps and hidden from any peaks during the rest of our stay. My purchases: - for daughter: 'Crystalline Glazed Porcelain Vase' - by Holly McKeen, Studio Potter, at Greendale Pottery, Chilliwack, BC. - for me: 'Blown Glass Figurine - Polar Bear' - by Daniel Vargas, Maestro glass blower, at Arte Vargas studio/gallery, Maple Ridge, BC. A most-enjoyable visit to CanWest Gallery -- with some lovely purchases, to-be lasting-memories of our stay, coming home with us. Thanks for all the information and accommodating help Ingrid --- so enjoyed seeing you again!! (note: and the gifts were so very much-enjoyed when opened here the other day!!)

The prices seemed reasonable with comparable work found in the states. The owner/staff provided a friendly greeting and were respectfully quiet, but friendly & knowledgeable when engaged. I really dig this lovely little gallery, located in one of the coolest middle-of-nowhere towns I've…read moreever stumbled into. I've been to a couple of openings here and had a blast each time. It's about an hour and a half drive north of Seattle, into the beautiful pastoral area of the Skagit River Valley, and well worth that drive for a gallery opening or an artist talk. Smith & Vallee put a lot of emphasis on both paintings and sculpture, particularly from regional artists (and the Skagit Valley area happens to be loaded with great artists, presumably attracted to the great landscapes and light angles, and the arts-friendly communal atmosphere of Bow-Edison). A cozy, intimate gallery + talented local artists + a supportive community = really fun and well-attended gallery openings. It can get pretty packed, which might force you to rubberneck a bit in order to see some of the art, but people are generally kind and relaxed. If it's too crowded for your blood, walk around and check out some of the other neato little shops, restaurants or bars in town and then filter back after a bit. "Town," by the way, is more or less a couple of charming little blocks that look as if you're on the set of a movie.
