No in-store visits were possible during our stay this time, but we have dropped in a couple of times during previous 'weekday' trips (the gallery is not open for business on weekends). Though it's physically quite small in size, I recall the shop offered a rather wide-range, and large selection of various 'Native Art Crafts' - including original paintings, numbered prints, and drawings, wood carvings, and other crafted wood pieces (paddles, boxes, and such), wall hangings, silver jewellery, clothing, and so much more. I missed not getting into 'Muskwa Gallery' this trip. It's a colourful, small gallery & shop, with lots to see, and will be on my 'to do' list for the next stay in Hope.

Daughter and I did a stop and shop at the gallery on the last day of our stay. We enjoyed checking out the various offerings, and acquiring specific information on some of the offerings displayed. I had some purchasing thoughts in mind with this visit to the gallery -- gifts were to be for daughter and myself -- not to be Christmas gifts, but more like lasting remembrances of this pre-winter, and pre-holidays stay. I had taken care of Mom's gift earlier that day. When I saw what I thought each of us would like, daughter was asked to "leave", and purchases arranged -- then I caught up with her for more walkabout, and dropped back later for pick up. Everything, including the earlier purchase, was kept under wraps and hidden from any peaks during the rest of our stay. My purchases: - for daughter: 'Crystalline Glazed Porcelain Vase' - by Holly McKeen, Studio Potter, at Greendale Pottery, Chilliwack, BC. - for me: 'Blown Glass Figurine - Polar Bear' - by Daniel Vargas, Maestro glass blower, at Arte Vargas studio/gallery, Maple Ridge, BC. A most-enjoyable visit to CanWest Gallery -- with some lovely purchases, to-be lasting-memories of our stay, coming home with us. This is a small gallery a short walk from the Harris Springs Resort. They appear to try to feature…read moreCanadian artists. They have a varied selection across different media including glass. The prices seemed reasonable with comparable work found in the states. The owner/staff provided a friendly greeting and were respectfully quiet, but friendly & knowledgeable when engaged. Definitely worth a few minutes if you enjoy such things.

During our visit, we were told they had closed their former location, and re-located to this more central area of the downtown a short while ago. A new, first time visit for us. The storefront gallery space, though very small in size, presented/offered a quite wide & fine selection of hand crafted arts & crafts -- with everything very nicely arranged and displayed. What especially caught our eyes -- the various hats (especially one we thought Mom would love, but we needed her head to size!!), and sweaters (wool, knitted - different styles, and all so great looking!). We need another look!! And hopefully, that will come with another visit to Hope in the not too distant future!!

Daughter and I discovered The Art Machine for the first time, when visiting the nearby Hope Arts…read moreGallery last week. We did not get into the facility itself, but from volunteers at the Gallery, and some signage posted there, were able to acquire some basic, information on what The Art Machine was all about -- a small community arts school affiliated with the Hope & District Arts Council - Community Arts Program. Apparently, their program consists of weekly art classes, provided at minimum cost, and to willing students of any level experience or ability. Classes offered, cover a wide-range of arts -- including drawing, collage, painting, pottery, crafts, and the like. We were able to see several works created by a number of students (from children to adults) attending classes there this year, via a nice exhibit of their works at the Gallery -- which was much fun to see and experience. Good on the Hope & District Arts Council for enabling such a facility, and way to go to the students attending classes there. From what we saw, heard, and read, The Art Machine appears to be a real winner for the community!!

Daughter and I found and stopped into this interesting little shop during our first walkabout in…read morethe village of Harrison Hot Springs during a recent stay. The shop is an outlet of the main shop, 'The Happy Prospector', located in Agassiz (just off the road coming into Harrison). I suspect it was the wood carvings resembling Halloween pumpkins, neatly arranged outside, that first caught our attention and beckoned us in. But once inside, we were treated to the sights of all sorts of arts, crafts, and "such" (wood, rock, and mineral offerings, art prints and paintings, and other handcrafts), and so enjoyed the friendly help and assistance of a personable 'host', who really made our visit to the shop so worthwhile. We stopped at the main shop on the way home, but were too early, and it had not opened as yet. Will save it for our next trip to the area. In the meantime, we're happy to have found the shop in Harrison, and sure enjoyed checking it out.

Stopped into this facility during a walkabout & lunch stop in Agassiz, on our way to a stay in…read moreHarrison Hot Springs early last week. From some literature, read that the building was built in 1893, and was originally an actual functioning Canadian Pacific Railway station. In its present location, it now houses: upon entering, the 'Agassiz Visitor Information Centre' and 'Gift Shop', and to the right, the 'Agassiz-Harrison Museum', with several rooms of interesting displays and setups of "stuff & such" from its early days, and various historical happenings in and about this area of BC. 'Cool' and interesting, very neatly and nicely set up and displayed, with very easy navigating for all to see. And super nice folks providing service as hosts/guides, to help and assist. Visitor information and some local BC history, housed in a uniquely-interesting building -- sure glad we dropped by for a look!!

We found Harrison Antiques open, with regular hours once again, during a recent late-May stay in…read moreHarrison. Yeah, nice to see. Daughter and I stopped in for a look around on one of our walkabouts, and were very pleasantly pleased with what we found and observed. The shop, though looking small from the outside, has two levels of displays inside, and is well-stocked with a fine range of various collectibles, antiques, and such. I liked and appreciated the ambiance -- it was quiet (background music, at low level), with lighting appropriate to the kind of establishment and offerings -- and our cordial and informative host. We enjoyed browsing the several areas of the shop, and checking out the various displays. And amongst the looking around, asking our host a few questions about the shop, and some of the items we found of most interest. It was good to see this fine shop back in business, and wish them well in their endeavours.
