When we visited the facility, we found out that the location on Hot Springs Road was currently under re-construction, and they hoped to move back to a new and larger facility some time later this year. Daughter and I located the temporary location a little by accident, when looking for some parking space our first morning in town. We had dropped Mom off at the hotel, and she and I went back for a drive around, and look see at what might have happened in Harrison since our last visit. We saw some 15 minute free parking, and when we pulled into the space, found ourselves directly in front of Harrison Tourism -- right where we wished to be, and it was open. The first, of two visits during our stay in Harrison. We had different hosts for our visits, and each was so cordial, and informative. Decent sized center. Small bookstore with a good variety of souvenirs. Lots of park information. Super knowledgeable rangers ready to help with your visit. Really nice and clean bathrooms (always a big plus!!). We had cell reception here so it was great to plug our stops in on maps. Make sure to walk around to the back of the visitor center. There's a short boardwalk that's ends with a gorgeous viewpoint of North Cascades. Hands down a must. You can take as little or as much time as you want just enjoying the beauty. The visitor center is also the starting point for the River Loop Trail - an easy 1.8 mile round trip walk with beautiful views of the surrounding forest and the river.
