Apollo was the best meal we had in Sydney and Sean was our fabulous server! Saganaki and octopus were exceptional and the deconstructed lemon pie was the perfect end to a perfect meal.

Two of us ordered "Full Greek" option for $70 per person. Very good option if you want to try this type of cousin. Humus, cheese and lamb were really great! Loved the cozy and quiet atmosphere.

Saw the reviews on this restaurant and booked it online. The drinks at this place were very tasty. The food was good and some was great, but overall above average. The service came in waves. Sometimes the server was very attentive, and other times I felt that I had to beg to get attention.

I came to The Apollo for my Birthday a few months ago and couldn't be happier with the choice. First is the restaurant itself. That romantic Grecian room is damn easy on the eyes. The décor is dramatic, but somehow understated. Those arched windows, the time-worn columns, golden lighting and the peeling white walls. Warm, sultry and lively with diners. The perfect mix of good feelings. One might call it an ambience trifecta. The Greek food here is as beautiful. It's what I love so much about Mediterranean cuisine; the ability to extract so much flavour from a few well-sourced ingredients. As a cheese enthusiast, ordering the baked cheese dish was a no-brainer. Golden fried haloumi came out sizzling in a little pan, covered in bubbling honey and dried oregano. So friggen good. We had a group table, but the L shaped bar is super sexy. I want to sit there next time. Our waitress was so accommodating and lovely that we felt compelled to invite her to sit and have birthday cake with us afterwards.

saganaki cheese in bubbling honey. SO GOOD.

Dinner at The Apollo was so tasty - all the dishes had a perfect blend of taste profiles. The highlight of the meal was the saganaki cheese in bubbling honey - just the right balance of salty and sweet. The portion was huge and good for sharing (my sister and I split it between the two of us and that got us pretty full before our main came out). For our main, we shared the baked snapper in brown butter and vine leaves, cooked over wood and charcoal. The snapper was cooked to perfection - juicy yet tender. As much as I wanted to try the loukamades (honey doughnuts) we were sadly too stuffed. So, plan your meal accordingly! Overall amazing greek food with great service, and will most definitely be back!

Menu. It's A LOT of food but this is the best bargain to taste everything they have.

It's pretty busy and they don't take reservations so I would recommend getting there early. I wanted to taste everything they had so I ordered the Full Greek. They warned me it would be a lot of food and it really was! So delicious. Definitely the most tender lamb shoulder I've ever had. Highly recommend!

My family was exhausted from flying from LAX. So I asked the concierge what's the best option - they said their personal favorite was the Apollo. Wow! I've been to Greece three times. My fav in the states is Milos at the cosmo in Las Vegas. This was as good if not better. Wowow! What a great way to start our Sydney trip.

I was in Sydney for the night and my friends picked The Apollo as it's one of their favourites. We went for the set menu, which was a ton of food and great value for $55. Starting with a big bowl of olives and jars of the most perfect taramasalata, gobbled down on top of warm soft pita bread. The saganaki was next, and easily the stand out of all the dishes. The drizzle of honey on the fried cheese created the perfect balance of saltiness and sweetness. Then came the lamb and potatoes. The lamb was so tender and fell off the bone, as you would hope. Dessert was a walnut filo pastry with coffee cream. Sure to say that we rolled out of the restaurant that evening. The only downside was that the staff were quite cold, not the kind of hospitality you'd expect, especially in a Greek restaurant. Tip: Bookings essential!

There were no plates (intentionally) broken at The Apollo No "Opa!"s shouted No napkins waved above heads No scantily-clad women playing finger cymbals No togas, plastic pillars or ivy to be seen They seemingly skipped all the, ahem, "traditional" Greek restaurant ingredients in favour of stunning food, fresh, traditional meat and produce, and minimalist, urban-chic decor. Why they would serve up bubbling fried saganaki with honey and oregano and crispy roasted chat potatoes with garlic and herbs instead of dishes called "Betta Wit Feta," "Gyro K" and "Ouzo Daddy" is just beyond me. I mean... what were they thinking?

Great food, great atmosphere, good for a date or small group dinner. Awesome Tuesday night meal in Sydney. Highly recommend this place especially on an off night because the wait can be quite long. If you arrive on a busy night put your name down and walk across the street and grab a few drinks at the Roosevelt. Order: haloumi/saganaki fried cheese), Sardines, braised lamb w/ Greek yogurt, and the donuts!!! Saganaki was the best I've had period. Everything was delicious. Lamb could've had a bit more flavor. The Donuts were lit!! Only wanted one and ended up eating 4 lol. Sommelier was very helpful with wine pairings as well. Highly recommend this place.

I dunno what, but Athenian did not live up to my expectations, or my admittedly distant memories of a fine lunch had long ago. Went with a party of about 7 for Friday night after after-works drinks, (always a bit risky I guess) and all pretty hungry. Got a table no problem, (bit surprising on a Friday night) and away we went. Dolmades, spanokopita, tzatziki, taramasalata, pita bread, calamari for entrees. Hmm. The calamari was a mixture of baby calamari leggy bits and strips of tune - seemed ok but a bit greasy. Spanokopita, nice, dips, nice, pita bread, fresh but a bit greasy. Dolmades, ok but a bit soft. Mains, for most, was the lamb shoulder in one form or another, in my case with braised veg, and my fellow diners with with a mixture of roasties and salad. The lamb was well cooked, but a bit greasy, and my veg was braised regrettably long, to the point where it all tasted the same - and a bit greasy. Common theme appearing here, right? To be fair, there was nothing really wrong with it all (except it was a bit greasy) but nothing really memorable or especially right with it either. I'll probably give it another go for old times sake, but on the basis of this meal I would say there is much better Greek to be had in the area.

Had an excellent eggplant and feta dip with pita and the Athenian mixed special (lamb and various vegetables/leaves stuffed with spiced mince and sometimes cheese) - all very tasty. Slow cooked beef looked excellent. Decent, well-priced wine list. Pleasant service, great for groups.
