It is pretty cool to have a spot where you can do this and to me quite unheard of. It definitely helps out when deciding if I want to purchase. The staff is welcoming and respectful. They had little snacks out to try with the oils and vinegars - very nice experience. I would have love to hear some more backgrounds about how the oils are imported or some interesting facts or what not but I did get some inquires answered. Many are coming from different regions and depending on peak seasons is usually how it's distributed to them. I would also love to see a shop like this a bit closer to me, it's such a great concept and way to encourage cleaner eating and some enhanced home cooking. I went with the Tuscan herb olive oil. One: Over the past year, we've switched up and simplified our salad dressing by using infused olive oils and flavored balsamic vinegars. Two: TAO provides many wonderful flavored options for both olive oils and balsamic vinegars. Besides the store full of plentiful oil and vinegar options, TAO is staffed with employees who know their main products and sincerely want to assist you. The store is small but maneuverable, and seemingly always full of people and energy. Tasting is welcomed. Bottle sizes vary to provide many needs, whether small, medium, or large. On a recent visit to pick up and replenish our favorite vinegar, Florida Sunshine, the store set up a small counter to highlight a local vendor. I found out later that they regularly support local small businesses. On this particular day, coffee from sustainable farms located in Costa Rica was highlighted. The owner, a Rollins MBA professor, informed us of the details because we asked. I enjoyed the coffee sample so much, I purchased a bag of freshly roasted beans to take home as well. You'll find other miscellaneous packaged goods in the store. When you check out, you'll be asked if you want to join their rewards program. You accumulate points for purchases and for returning empty Ancient Olive bottles to the store. It's a fun stop, whether you purchase something or not. If you're looking to amp up your cooking game with quality olive oils, balsamic vinegar and other local eats, then this store on Park Avenue in Winter Park is for you. It sits behind a few other stores with a passageway into this small looking store with more room on the inside than you'd think. And it's filled with goodies, and you will be too after you leave. I was curious how they'd handle the tastings in a new Covid-19 world, and honestly, I like it better now than I did in the past, other than the mask policy (I understand it but when sampling, it's kind of a pain to sample). The staff was super friendly and helpful and if you wanted to try something, they'd run to the back corner and be right back with a sample. I liked that better than having all of the bottles out like they did before. I don't have to worry about getting oily anymore. They didn't question anything my wife and I wanted to sample. They have a slew of flavored and unflavored olive oils and vinegar. We tried a good portion of them and after trying one of the hot spicy oils, I was glad I had the mask and it hits you and causes some coughing. They're good at explaining the benefits of said oils and recommending what you'd use a particular flavor with. They did away with the paper punch cards and finally went electronic. They converted my punches (I remembered to bring it with me this time) into their electronic format. They also no longer do a bottle exchange so don't go carrying them from your car to the store any more. They also have other items like "gourmet" pastas, dips, chocolate, and local honey. We ended up with 8 bottles since we don't make it here too often and we ran low on our previous oils. This is my go-to place for quality oils and this place has a huge variety to choose from. I decided to try their selection of balsamic vinegars this time because I heard great things about these products also. The staff is very helpful and allows you to browse and sample different oils and vinegars. I wasn't too hip on Fig balsamic vinegar, but once I was given a taste, I went home with a bottle! I tested a few combinations and was provided with a "Suggested Pairing and Fact Sheet" to help me with my experimentation. I purchased a bottle of blueberry balsamic, too, to see how creative I could be as the staff encouraged me to play around with the pairings and have fun! Once you enter, you feel a sense of coziness that warms your heart with the amount of specialty and flavor infused oils and gourmet vinegarettes. Samples of all these make it hard to choose just a few. They have ginger honey, coconut tangerine, blueberry etc.... so many flavors of oils and vinegrettes! You name it they will probably have it! These oils and vinegarettes are well combined with the spices from Spice and Tea exchange store across the street by the way. Another great recommendation! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this shop. I am an inventive cook. I never know what my finished meal will be because as I'm gathering ingredients I am inspired by various items. Today I was making a shrimp and avocado salad with avocadoes from my yard. I wanted a citrus flavored salad dressing. So I grabbed a bottle of Ancient Olive Sunshine specialty vinegar and some spices and made up the most amazing, perfect salad dressing for my end of summer salad. 5 Star Update for easy online ordering and still the best olive oil I've ever found - Persian Lime! My previous review still stands and has great info about their in-store experience (which is divine- they're truly a hidden gem), however I've had experiences with The Ancient Olive during COVID when I was staying mostly at home and was thrilled to see they had online ordering and shipping for their array of products. I'm 100% obsessed with their Persian Lime infused Olive Oil. It's a super premium extra virgin olive oil infused with the fresh oil and natural aromas of Persian limes (according to the website). They offer their oils and vinegars in 3 sizes (60ml, 200ml, 375ml), which is really convenient if you're shopping for home OR putting together a fabulous local gift basket. I got the big bottle because I put this oil on EVERYTHING. The website has some great ideas for ways to use this particular flavor: - Combine with a fruity white balsamic for a delicious vinaigrette. - Combine with Pomegranate Balsamic for a fantastic Lamb marinade or vinaigrette for baby arugula or spinach salad. - Combine with Oregano White Balsamic and dress pasta, couscous or farro salads and sprinkle with fresh herbs and feta cheese. - Drizzle over grilled or roasted zucchini and carrots. - Combine with any suggested vinegar to grill fruit. - Combine with Black Cherry Balsamic to marinate skirt or flank steak then grill for the most delicious fajitas. - Whisk with Coconut, Pineapple or Mango balsamic for a fruity and tropical vinaigrette. - Combine with Raspberry Balsamic and use to dress mixed greens with fresh berries and orange segments. - Use in baking in lieu of melted butter or other oils: try it in pound cake and bars. I go to the Ancient Olive for all of my olive oil and balsamic vinegar needs. The flavors they offer are unparalleled and the most decadent oils I've ever tasted. I usually buy the Garlic infused oil as this is my favorite to cook with though the Tuscan herbs oil is also extremely flavorful and a great addition to most meals. I especially like to drizzle a small amount of either of these flavors on top of avocado toast to take is from basic to gourmet! Truly, it tastes like some very expensive park Avenue Sunday brunch avocado toast. For the balsamic vinegars I also love the Sicilian lemon white vinegar for salads as well as the Herbs Di Napoli for salad AND it's amazing in a brussel sprout recipe! I discovered this shop after trying the most amazing blood Orange brownies from a BnB years ago. The woman hosting told me the secret to her incredibly decadent brownies were swapping out water/regular oil for blood Orange infused oil from the ancient olive. I have had so many compliments on my brownies since trying this swap too and swapping for other infused oils in more traditional recipes is sure to make any meal feel elevated. The many many flavors of balsamic vingar was awsome toke home the green apple balsamic but I wanted about 10 differnt ones. I also got a bottle of the edithsbest triple A sauce it was amazing, starts spicy finishes smooth good on all types meats. Also got a bottle of the Tuff hot sauce infused with black truffles amazing. Love this adorable little hidden shop. They have so much more than olive oil, but you will definitely be leaving with some of that too. We really enjoyed tasting all of the different sauces and seasoning they had. Everything we had was seriously amazing and you can tell they work hard to cultivate a great collection. Some of my favorite things I tried: Mama's Mojo, Triple A Sauce, the Pasta Nostra San Marzano (D.O.P) tomato and herb sauce, Pasta Nostra Cream White Wine Sauce, and the Cakalacki Mustard Sauce (I don't even care for mustard, but this one has brown sugar in it and was fantastic). If you've never been olive oil tasting, be sure to ask one of the owners or employees how to go about it so that you have the best experience. They will also be happy to give you recipe ideas for using their unique flavors (ex: brownies made with blood orange olive oil).
