It has been ten months since my last visit to Allred Bites and Bar. The last visit was phenomenal. Based on the prior experience my wife and I decided to return to this location with high expectations. We were not disappointed. I started this experience with the Whiskey Fog. This is an absolutely fantastic start for the evening, see the photos for the description of this cocktail and watch the video to see the presentation. I had tried this cocktail on the last visit and I have been dreaming about it ever since. This cocktail was every bit as perfectly executed as the first one I tried. From the presentation I the last swallow was absolutely perfect. Next was the appetizer. I selected the Deviled Eggs. I chose the Southwest, Dill Pickle, and Sweet Bourbon Bacon. They were flavorful and well prepared and the presentation was excellent. A very impressive start of the meal. I highly recommend this item. Please see the photos for the description and presentation. For the main dish I selected the Prosciutto Scallops. I do not order Scallops very frequently because I am seldom satisfied with the outcome. Scallops are very easily over cooked. However I felt adventurous and intrigued by the menu's description of the dish. I was not disappointed in the least. The scallops were perfectly cooked and the layers of flavor are very well balanced, perfectly executed, and well thought out. There again, the presentation was excellent. Please see the photos for the description of the dish and the presentation. My wife ordered the Orange Cauliflower and the Stir Fried Quinoa. She in the past has worked at a number of very high end restaurants that serve very sophisticated palates. It is not uncommon for her to spot unfavorable qualities in the cuisine the she is served. She also understands the difficulties involved with restaurants that endeavor to create higher quality food. That being said she was impressed and completely satisfied with her experience. I would like to thank Alli C. our server for the evening. Her hospitality and attentiveness were outstanding. She was definitely a major factor in our very enjoyable evening. Super clean super nice. This hotel has been remade into something wonderful. We spent one night here. The pool and hot tub were great. When you enter the lobby it is really beautiful and well put together. We eat dinner here the food was great but is all small plate which is fine. The service was horrible that night as the place was busy, but drink times were taking about 40 minutes which is bad, our main dishes came out after about 44 minutes and our appetizers came out about 40 minutes after that. If they can get the restaurant service dialed in this place would be amazing. The room was clean and had been very nicely updated. The bar was amazing and they have pretty much any level of quality in liquor that you maybe wanting. I would gladly return here for another stay. read more

WOW! A MUST STAY!!! My family and I absolutely LOVED staying here this past weekend. I booked this last minute. Our room was on the first floor and we had a stunning ocean view. We got to see the sunrise and sunset perfectly. They even give you binoculars to whale watch. On top of that we got a complimentary gift basket full of delicious goodies. They even gave my dog a bowl, water bottle, treats and little towels to wipe her feet. I also loved that there were 4 fire pits to sit and watch the the ocean right next to our room. I got a king bed with a pull out couch. Pet friendly as I had my dog. The room was gorgeous! Large bathroom and a kitchenette with a full size refrigerator. Everything top to bottoms was beautifully don't. The furniture, the fixings, the wallpaper and the tile was just incredible! You can tell they really put a lot of effort to upgrading and remodeling this place. It has to be one of the nicest places I have stayed in a while. The hotel staff was great and friendly. Very professional as well. The pool was such a major factor in staying here. It was so awesome and it's heated too. They also have a huge jacuzzi hot tub and a sauna. All of which my family enjoyed every minute of. We ordered dinner and drinks at their restaurant. It's so convenient and reasonably priced. The food was great. They also have a full coffee bar and breakfast menu. You can't beat the convenience and quality! We will 100% be back, I highly recommend staying here. It is truly a gem! read more

Our first four days stay here was excellent. Unfortunately, just a few months later, our most recent four day stay was not as enjoyable. And no General Manager was at the property during our stay to discuss matters with. The restaurant still had excellently crafted craft cocktails but the food had taken a dive, seeming pre prepped, hot tacos being cold, pot stickers without flavor, save for the sauce which was excellent. We had to park a couple of blocks away from our room because all of the spaces were taken up by giant trucks. If you want a motel that looks like a used car lot for monster trucks, this is the place for you. The housekeeping staff was excellent, others just seemed to be going through the motions. We will not be staying here again, three stars for the excellent view, and clean room. read more

We had a wonderful stay at the Allred this past weekend. Right off the bat, the front desk attendant noticed our view didn't have an ocean view, and gave us a tour of an available room that was actually less expensive, so we took it. I had booked a larger room on the end of the building (King Balcony View), not realizing until after booking that it was facing a side street, with an obstructed view only from the balcony. I had tried to call and switch to a different room, but the person I talked to couldn't find an available alternative. We're so glad the hotel staff could upgrade our view for us. The majority of the facility is nicely refreshed building that was likely built in the late 70s (that is where our room was). The newer "boutique" rooms are in the completely new section on the north end, which also houses the Bites + Bar dining area (which has great outdoor seating facing the Pacific). We felt the Allred had a lot of details and amenities that made the stay memorable -- like robes in the rooms, binoculars for viewing, a deluxe Keurig coffee maker, complimentary snacks, etc. The king size bed was very comfortable, and the sound of the pounding surf right outside helped with the sleep, too. We definitely hope to be back at some point, as it truly was a memorable weekend. read more

This was such a nice place to stay for the ocean views. We stayed here for 2 nights and we had direct views of Pacific Ocean to enjoy our morning tea. Front desk staff is amazing! They're all very friendly and very helpful and accommodating to the guests needs. The lobby also has the bar and breakfast and barista area. It has patio seating too with fire pits. The ambiance is amazing at each corner. I see it is pet friendly as I saw a kit for pets to make them feel at home. This is definitely a great place to stay in the area. read more

OK, I admit to being a long time fan. My father, while he was still alive, had stayed here a couple of times and recommended it. I took his advice to heart and have been a fan for many years. One of the things that I love is that the multi-story building has rooms that all face the ocean. On the second and third floors, you have an unobstructed view of beach and water. I have seen some amazing sunsets here and even whales. They have remodeled the building and modernized it, and it is even better than before. Two thumbs up to The Whaler. read more

We had a wonderful stay at The Whaler and timed our visit well since they just completed a renovation of the primary building. A new wing facing southwest is being added, so construction is still in process, but didn't bother us during our stay. Since they just completed a renovation, everything from the room to the pool and spa were in fabulous shape. However, there were a few things that I would have included as part of the update. ** There were no drawers in our room (King Standard). A small open closet is by the bathroom and there is an open section as part of the nightstand, but a dresser is always helpful. ** There were no outlets or plugs on one side of the bed. Mr. K had an alarm clock on his nightstand that included plugs. I like when there are lights that also include plugs/USB ports on both sides. ** No screen on the sliding door to the small balcony or the louvered window. Would be nice to have so you could leave them open to enjoy the ocean breeze. There is an old fashioned louver above the main door and a hook to open it, so you can get a cross breeze. ** In the spa area, there are no benches, chairs, hooks, or cubbies for your belongings, so everything is on the floor. Our experience with the staff was great overall, but with a few hiccups. Most importantly, they honored our request for an early check-in and a room on a high floor. I would recommend that to others because the property is across the street from the ocean, so only the higher floors have a view. Our experience was that folks like to park on the street in front of the hotel overnight, so the higher the better. The property had great access to the beach, was a short walk to Nye Beach restaurants and coffee shops, and a cute city park, with a pirate ship play structure, is just a block away. In the reception area they had great coffee (my favorite Thundermuck from Columbia River Coffee Roasters) with lots of creamers and add ins. In the room, there are Keurig Coffee pods from Sleepy Monk (another local fav). No restaurant on site, but there is a food cart in the parking lot with a few breakfast sandwiches. We preferred walking to Nye Beach in the morning. read more

Nice hotel situated across the street from Nye Beach, 2 blocks from downtown Nye, rooms are updated and modern, the view from our balcony was nice and the restaurant had good eclectic food, fresh. We also enjoyed the cocktails sitting in the restaurant/lobby looking out on the ocean. We did have an issue with the fire alarm going off @ 4am and no one had a clue what to do that worked @ the hotel. We all were in the parking lot with 40 mph winds and drizzle and the fire trucks didn't even show up for 15 mins., meaning they knew it was a non emergency, they get different alarms, based on the issue, this one being low water pressure in the system, I feel we should've @ least been offered complimentary breakfast for the inconvenience, but we only received a sorry that the staff wasn't trained @ that point, customer service isn't what it use to be. All in all, a good stay. read more

Visiting from out of town, we met a friend in their "Bites & Bar" open lobby area. The food, service, and atmosphere were all excellent. Apparently, the hotel had been recently remodeled (one portion completed 10 months ago, and the remainder only 3 months ago). Add to this the cliff-side location and stunning oceanfront views (all rooms overlook the ocean) the relaxation factor is about as high as it gets. We opted to skip the Portland, OR, leg of our trip, and instead to book a room at the Allred. The interior designers did a great job. There were lots of property and in-room details that added to the experience. Great location, too. Nye Beach is literally just down the street. An easy walk on the sand or sidewalk. I should also highlight the exceptional staff at The Allred. From the front desk to housekeeping, and the servers at the Lobby Bites & Bar, everyone was warm, approachable, and incredibly helpful. We are local residents of Newport so we decided to try out the new Bar and restaurant. We went on a Saturday night for small bites/plates and wine. It is a beautiful venue with wonderful views. The small plates and bites were fantastic, we tried many and they were al beautifully prepared and delicious. We will be back for sure. read more

No air conditioning here. We are in the older totally remodeled section. The room is quite small. No screens. Already being invaded by mosquitoes.... Extremely loud and obnoxious piped in music in outdoor pool area. Songs from unknown era. The hotel advertised fire pits. In actuality they have four tiny table height fire pits inconviently located on the restaurant patio (one is not currently working so really only three) so guests are jockeying for position for the minimal number of seats. The chairs in the room are extremely uncomfortable, so if you want to be in your room to watch the ocean you must lie on the bed. Bottom line: the Newport Agate Beach Best Western is so far superior! Bigger rooms, well appointed and including comfortable chairs to watch the ocean, a very large gas fire pit outdoors that seats 15 or so people and a lobby that ISN'T a restaurant, set up with games and books and a complimentary coffee bar (the restaurant is separate)....sorry we fell for the hype and booked here. We came here for a getaway weekend. Arriving early, they offered to call us when our room was ready. This allowed us time to go out for lunch and do a little exploring in Nye Beach and Newport's Historic Bayfront. They called when our room was ready and the check in was a breeze. The lobby has a popcorn machine and there are always hot coffee and juices available. Staff are super friendly and polite, very eager to help. Our room is well stocked with a Keurig coffee maker, mini fridge and microwave. Linens are always fresh and the floors are clean. The ocean views are fantastic and it's just a walk across the road to the beach. The beds are comfortable and not too soft or too firm. There are plenty of pillows, a dresser for unpacking the suitcases and a large flatscreen TV. To my surprise they had even put a 'Birthday' treat in the room with a personalized Happy Birthday card! Completely unexpected but very much appreciated! This caliber of Service and the views are what keeps us coming back here. read more

Very decent spot. Great location with terrific views of the coast. Loved the staff. My big gripe with this place is that I'd quite expensive - we had a corner suite for 500 a night and no way was it worth that. There are a lot of minor things all over that kind of take away from the price, such as the balconies have this thick bar which makes sitting on them difficult because your view gets blocked. The lobby is beautiful, but it's not that great to sit in as the chairs are a little uncomfortable. I think this place is very very good - but I don't think it's worth the price they ask you to pay. However, if you are headed to Newport and just want a well built room with a great sea view - recommended. Just don't pay too much for the extra special rooms. read more

Our family's first choice was fully booked so we ended up staying at Allred and this was a blessing! Our room had a beautiful view of the coast. Space was enough for our family of four. We felt the warmth welcome from the complimentary snack basket, coffee bar, and they even have free dishwashing soap for dishes:) The restaurant food was fantastic and staff were all welcoming and friendly. We were absolutely blown away at this "motel" that definitely gives upscale hotel vibes! First, they called ahead of time to welcome us and thank us for booking and asked if we had anything we were celebrating or needing accommodations for. I let them know we were celebrating my daughters birthday and graduation and they said they would have sparkling cider waiting for us (they didn't, but they did have a cute little treat basket which we told her was for her, so she was excited). The staff were super friendly and we had the most gorgeous, spacious and comfortable room. Every room seems to have an epic view! The only bad part is we were just there for one night. We definitely would have loved to stay longer. We did have an issue with our tv not working, they came quickly and when they couldn't fix the tv they replaced it for us. I will say they don't seem to have AC, but we had the slider cracked open (3rd floor) and the sound of the ocean and breeze made it perfect. At checkout they gave us a little bag with waters and taffy, and overall were just great. The city of Newport is wonderful as well, I can see why they say it's the friendliest. We really enjoyed our stay, would highly recommend it and hope to be back again someday. read more

Excellent renovations and staff! Wonderful location and views! We were greeted with a small basket of delicious goodies in the room and handed a farewell bag of goodies and bottled water for our ride home. Those little details added a special touch. We requested a non-pet, 3rd floor kitchenette room, which did not disappoint. The room smelled new and was very clean. The kitchenette was stocked with utensils and dishes that came in handy. The weather allowed us to sit on the lanai, drinking coffee or eating while taking in the ocean view and people-watching. Our first stay was top notch! read more

I typically stay here twice a year for about a week at a time and was excited for the remodel and reopening. However, this stay was quite unpleasant with many issues that were brought to the attention of staff. No bathtub and not a double room as advertised on booking.com Weak water pressure Shower head too high to adjust settings Dusty throughout A quarter roll of toilet paper Two towels for three days, asked for additional ones Mirror above sink very dim Lots of barking dogs Tv turned in but didn't work beyond Apple TV set up which kept failing, requested assistance twice. Maintenance finally came but we still couldn't access cable. Day two the sound and picture kept cutting in and out. It's a smart TV so you can connect your streaming apps, however, with all the crackdown that has occurred with streaming services, they may view it as password sharing because you are using a different IP address as connected to your services at home, which could jeopardize your account. So I suggest not connecting your account to their TV but if you do make sure you clear settings before checking out if the room. Lights flickered and dimmed and eventually turned off with the use of the microwave and fan Loud tv/music from coming from the room next door as well as slamming door as well as noisy guests on the walkway after 10:30pm. Called down to the front desk twice and couldn't get in touch with anyone and couldn't leave my sleeping child alone. Do not disturb magnet was on the door and somebody knocked and came in while I was getting out of the shower. It startled my little one. They then closed the door and knocked again then left. I notified the front desk immediately. No follow up with me occurred. Overall, the view is what is best as I always request third floor rooms. The welcome basket was a nicely added touch as were the binoculars to use during your stay. read more

What an awesome find, especially when traveling with pets! It's rare to find an ocean view room that's reasonably priced and pet friendly. We paid $98/night plus tax for a king bed pet friendly room, using our AAA card for a 10% discount. We were charged an additional $10 per pet, per night. Total for 2 nights, with tax, was $262.18. Check-in was a breeze! We were emailed a self check-in form a few days before our stay. Once we arrived, an hour before check-in, we called to see if we could check-in early, and it was no problem. They even offer curbside check-in, and brought our keys, hotel information, dog sheet and poop bags to our car. Extremely convenient, especially during our current covid restrictions. Our king bed pet friendly room was clean and the view spectacular! We were asked at check-in if we preferred ground level or 2nd floor, we chose 2nd floor for the better ocean view. We loved having the smaller window next to the sliding glass door that we could leave open all night, for the fresh air and ocean sound. The bathroom was decent and there were plenty of amenities. They offered complimentary bar soap at the sink and large sized conditioning shampoo and shower gel in the shower. There was also a box fan, ironing board with iron, luggage rack and hair dryer available for use. The room also had a Keurig coffee maker, mini-fridge and microwave. Everything worked properly and was in decent condition. Overall super happy with this motel. Would highly recommend! They offer complimentary "Breakfast Bites" you order on a form, then drop it by the front office to pick-up. Pretty nice offerings too...Bob's Red Mill oatmeal, Greek yogurt, bagels with cream cheese, fruit, muffins, juices and cereal. read more

Beautiful and well appointed rooms right on the ocean. Very comfortable beds- no mushy pillows!. We sat on the balcony and watched the sun set. The hotel restaurant is also very good. They sell tapas-style portions to share. Beautiful view of the ocean from every table. Very friendly staff. We will be staying here again! read more

This was our first hotel experience during COVID and it was great. Check-in was mostly done online - they asked for info and credit card beforehand to minimize time in the lobby. All staff are masked and gloved and friendly and professional. My lobby check-in was a bit marred by one man (a guest) taking off and putting on his mask over and over which was frustrating for everyone. Rooms are motel style walk-up - no hallway which is good for COVID. We got a ground floor room and parked right in front. The room was a nice size with a very comfortable bed and slightly dated but extremely clean furniture. There was a table with two chairs looking out on the view. Nice sized tv. Even though it was the ground floor it's still elevated from street level and there was a great view of the ocean (and two houses, which are more noticeable in photos than in real life). Although my reservation said that there was a fireplace there was not one - not a big deal as it was warm. Room did not have ac but had cross ventilation and a box fan was provided. Solid walls - we never heard other guests. Breakfast was easy to arrange - you checked what you want on a piece of paper and go collect it from the front desk. Location was great - literally a two minute walk to the beach. I will say there were not great places for the dogs to relieve themselves - not a lot of grass in the blocks around the hotel and only one tiny patch in the hotel, and there were some people wandering around at night, both guests and non-guests, that put me on alert. So basically the only downside to an otherwise great stay was that other people exist. :) Would definitely stay here again! read more

This was a nice motel. VERY helpful and courteous staff. we arrived after having to stop two times due to car sickness in our 2yr old. We went thru all the extra clothes we packed. The motel has laundry facilities. Thank goodness. We were able to use swimming pool families until 9pm and then adults only from 9-10pm. Continental breakfast - you order ahead the night before and pick it up in the morning. Beds were comfy with a lovely view of the ocean. read more

So so accommodations. No pictures on the walls and the color was a dark blue. Kind of cell like. Housekeeping staff was noisy as they were getting their supplies from the supply area on the second floor. Check in was courteous. The electricity was scary, the lights dimmed when the heater and the fridge clicked on. Not sure they did any more than a surface remodel. Paint already chipping away in several places. The view was nice but there were several vans parked on the street in front that looked occupied. Didn't feel safe walking back from NYE Beach after dark. read more

We had a wonderful stay at The Whaler (recently bought by the Hallmark Resort). Although the Whaler's rooms are all ocean view rooms, it's the only hotel on the bluff that is on the East side of the road, meaning, you're ocean view may include people camping in their vans and lots of pedestrian and auto traffic. However, The Whaler was full and the other resorts that are on the West side of the road were half full at best, even though prices were comparable. That tells you a lot! The Whaler has plenty of nice touches such as a welcome package for your pet, snacks, and a light breakfast. The indoor pool, hot tub, and exercise room were really nice. read more

The location is amazing, the room that we had was comfortable and clean, but the employees are the rock stars. Called em after making my reservation to ensure I had directions and was secure in my reservation. After checking in (10 minutes or so) called to make sure I was happy with my room, which I was. Obvious that they are doing some updating - new floors and carpet and the walls look freshly painted (Room 372). Oh, did I tell you about the view? It rained almost everyday, but left the top window open to hear the wonderful roar of the Pacific. Never used the pool or hot tub, but it must be nice because it was always being used - maybe next time. For those that wonder about COVID measures, that wasn't a concern either. This is my new favorite resting slot in Newport - and we were here for 5 days. read more

We had a delightful stay at The Whaler! While it's technically a motel, it feels more like a hotel. The King room had plenty of space and the bed was very comfortable. Bonus: there was a fridge and a microwave in the room. Service was great and the lobby offers tea, coffee, juice, and popcorn throughout the day. Our third floor balcony provided a great view of the ocean. Beach access is just down the street. One thing to note is the showers are pretty short - if you're very tall you may need to look elsewhere or be okay bending down while showering. read more
