I thought we hit the jackpot with this place. Stunning views located right in Nye Beach. In theory, I love the idea of this hotel-The writers getaway. The hotel itself was charming, decorated very, well. There were small areas to spend reading and watching the waves. The facility itself was very clean, newly updated. The only good thing about this place - is the bed and the bedding. Very comfortable. Now onto the reality of staying here. 1. The room is way too small, especially for two people. 12 x 10. There's no soundproofing, the sink is right in the room itself. The walls are very thin, and you can hear your neighbors moving around. 2. No TV, no fridge, no closet, no dresser, no place to put any of your things. 3. The shower has no water pressure! I didn't even try and wash my hair, even though I really wanted to. 4. No ice machine, but the hotel provides little Ziploc bags of ice, which isn't very efficient. 5. my biggest pet peeve, coffee was supposed to be ready at 7 AM. There was no one downstairs, no coffee. Finally at 7:30 got some coffee. Worst coffee I've ever had, and I've spent the last two days drinking gas station coffee. The person who checked us in yesterday was very nice and friendly, the gentleman here today seemed very grumpy and did not want to be here. bottom line - this is like a beautiful postcard. In reality it's more like a theatre stage, just for show.

Relaxing outside by the fire pit.

I stayed here on September 2nd-3rd 2025. This hotel is modern unlike traditional hotel chains I'm accustomed to. It was relaxing to sit outside by the fire pit watching the sunset. As I return to my room, it was nice to see people playing board games in the dining room. Also, in the morning the staff was very attentive and asked if they can make me a cup of espresso or cappuccino. I am an early riser but was able to sleep-in because the bed was extremely comfortable. I understand the remodel does not have the same characteristics as the original hotel but I have to admit, it is much cleaner. Howard

If you love books and unique experiences this charming and quirky hotel is the place for you! Sylvia Beach Hotel is a lovely renovated historical building from the early 1900s and the owners did a phenomenal job keeping it's historic feel even after renovations. The hotel is designed in a way that allows guest relax and unplug from modern society. If you desire big rooms, up to date luxurious bathrooms, televisions and wifi you will want to look elsewhere. The aim of the hotel is to unplug and relax from our fast paced modern society. With author themed rooms , no wifi, a cell phone free library and sitting area this hotel transports its guest to another place and time. There are books, puzzles and fascinating book themed decor throughout the hotel. Every room is different. Some have views, multiple beds or only one bed. If you have particular requests you should do your research on your room's amenities before booking. The three course meal at Table of Contents was phenomenal! The vegetables are all grown in the owner's home garden. The restaurant requires reservations since it is a small dining experience. There are two large tables where guests are seated (cruise style). My husband and I met lovely people from Washington, Idaho and Oregon. Sylvia Beach Hotel is located directly on the beach and there are fun shops all around. My husband and I stayed in the JK Rowling room. The vacant rooms are left open so we took a tour of several other rooms including Ken Casey, Shakespeare and Dr. Seuss. Each room had its own unique appeal. If you are looking to relax and you're able to let go of our modern expectations this beautifully restored hotel is top notch!

What an amazing stay! I could have stayed for days. My husband found this in a guide book from years ago and he called as soon as our itinerary was set from our trip from San Francisco to Portland, OR. Although they have a website- reservations are old fashioned through the phone. You won't see people with IPads watching movies or going through Tik Tok. It is quiet and beautiful. This is a book lovers paradise. Each room is themed after a different author and the rooms are well done. And the hotel sits on a bluff with amazing views of the ocean. We stayed in the Mark Twain room (both literary majors) and as soon as we got to our room- I didn't want to leave. It had a large bed and desk and two windows that looked out over the ocean. You could see the ocean anywhere in the room. There was a window seat that I stretched out on and a fireplace. Our room had this beautiful balcony with ocean view and the day we checked in- it was windy. Very windy. Enough that I couldn't close the car door and when I almost had it- the wind flew the door back on its springs. We thought what a waste- this balcony but no way we could use it. But the location of the room blocked the wind and we enjoyed a bottle of wine outside with a premade cheese plate from the gift shop. The gift shop also has wine for purchase. We sat outside and watched the few people trying to walk on the beach in the small hurricane. Then we dug out our books and got cozy and read. And drank more wine. We did start a fire and it was wonderful. The employees were nice and there were books everywhere along with common library rooms with people quietly reading. I was so sad to have to leave in the morning. This is a book lovers paradise and you should make a trip to Oregon just to stay here.

LOVE the lit mirror (reminded me I didn't bring my tweezers haha). Room had a large amount of extra space ; if you need to set up a playpen or doggie bed there is still lots of space to walk. So that's disappointing. The pillows are very firm and puffy which wasn't nice, and the restaurant in the hotel wasn't the best. The good: Stunning views of the beach. Our huge two person soaking tub was AMAZING. Bed was comfortable, staff were extremely friendly! The room was spacious and fun. Fire place was cozy! Just 80 steps down a staircase to the beach. Awesome ocean wave sounds all night. Has coffee, tea, and even a bag of microwave popcorn complimentary for guests. We would come back for sure! We got winter rates as we went in February. Fridays and weekends are more expensive just so you know! Pretty nice stay, I don't know that I would call it a resort. It is pretty much your basic Oregon coast hotel maybe just a tad nicer.

Pros: We had a nice spacious 3rd floor room with a great view of the beach. The hotel has nice amenities like great toiletries that smell lovely, nice robe and a balcony plus a fireplace. Shower had 3 separate water nozzles which was fun! (Although took a minute to figure out how to use) Heated infinity Jacuzzi pool was wonderful! Fire pits near the pool also great! The front desk people were all very nice. The place was clean and they had cookies in the lobby that we tried one day (yum!) Cons: I was disappointed that they apparently did away with the made to order breakfast that they have pictured in their website. Instead of the items pictured was a Continental breakfast delivered in little plastic containers in a box. It was not bad taste wise, and I definitely appreciated the hard boiled egg as a bit of protein along with all the carbs. But it would have been nice to know of this change before booking. Price is fairly high for the cold month of March. We asked about the sofa bed getting set up for our 3rd person in the room and were told we needed to make it ourselves. For the price we paid it would have been nice that they could have sent someone to set up the sofabed, that was weird, and unexpected. Kind of felt like something a much lower end hotel would ask you to do. I debated between 3 and 4 stars since there were both good and bad points. If there was a 3.5 stars option this is what i'd choose honestly. I'd come back again but only if I got a much better rate.

I started this experience with the Whiskey Fog. This is an absolutely fantastic start for the evening, see the photos for the description of this cocktail and watch the video to see the presentation. I had tried this cocktail on the last visit and I have been dreaming about it ever since. This cocktail was every bit as perfectly executed as the first one I tried. From the presentation I the last swallow was absolutely perfect. Next was the appetizer. I selected the Deviled Eggs. I chose the Southwest, Dill Pickle, and Sweet Bourbon Bacon. They were flavorful and well prepared and the presentation was excellent. A very impressive start of the meal. I highly recommend this item. Please see the photos for the description and presentation. For the main dish I selected the Prosciutto Scallops. I do not order Scallops very frequently because I am seldom satisfied with the outcome. Scallops are very easily over cooked. However I felt adventurous and intrigued by the menu's description of the dish. I was not disappointed in the least. The scallops were perfectly cooked and the layers of flavor are very well balanced, perfectly executed, and well thought out. There again, the presentation was excellent. Please see the photos for the description of the dish and the presentation. My wife ordered the Orange Cauliflower and the Stir Fried Quinoa. She in the past has worked at a number of very high end restaurants that serve very sophisticated palates. It is not uncommon for her to spot unfavorable qualities in the cuisine the she is served. She also understands the difficulties involved with restaurants that endeavor to create higher quality food. That being said she was impressed and completely satisfied with her experience. I would like to thank Alli C. our server for the evening. Her hospitality and attentiveness were outstanding. She was definitely a major factor in our very enjoyable evening. I highly recommend this location if you are in Newport Oregon and are looking for a very relaxing and enjoyable dining experience.

When we first arrived and checked in, the owner happened to be there. He was very welcoming and friendly. He detailed a lot of the accommodations, and gave great food recommendations for the local area as well. The office had plenty of movies to borrow, as well as some toiletries for sale. They had candy and popcorn for sale too. And there was a very handy spice rack you could borrow from. There are only six condos on the property, so it is a pretty cozy experience, and the customer service is very attentive overall. The condo itself was great! It was very clean, especially for a "beachside resort". There's a small bedroom and bathroom downstairs with a shower, as well as a decent sized kitchen with everything you would need to cook. The dining area has a great view of Agate Beach. And the living area was cozy to relax in, with a gas fireplace to heat the place up. When going up the stairs, there's a cute nook to relax and read a book in while looking out over the ocean/beach. Upstairs has the master bedroom and bathroom. The jacuzzi tub was awesome! Maybe my only complaint about the entire condo is that the bed in our master bedroom wasn't the most comfortable, but I also admit I can be picky about my mattress. Immediately when leaving the room, there's a long flight of decently maintained stairs leading out to Agate Beach. Be prepared to wade through some shallow water to get out to the beach proper! At the top of the stairs is a patio area with barstools to sit at and enjoy. Every night, there is a small campfire and complimentary s'mores. We never saw anyone else out at it, but the wife and I enjoyed relaxing by it for a couple of nights. They have a great park-like area to walk your dog by the campfire (the condos are dog friendly!) There looked to be some horseshoe pits and some other outdoor games you could play too. The paths are all well maintained and the landscaping is pretty. Location wise, Starfish Point is close to perfect. Just outside of town, so very nearby stores and restaurants. You're right down the road from the lighthouse and a 9 hole golf course. And of course, you have Agate Beach right there to walk to! It is just off 101, so you would deal with some road noise if you're out in the park area (which is closer to 101), but you can't hear anything from your condo. 10/10 experience to be had at starfish point, I would definitely stay here again!
