This hotel is located downtown near Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Although there is construction in the area. It was easy to locate, nicely situated on a corner with easy valet services. The hotel is lovely with a courteous staff. Tue lobby was clean and inviting. The guest service area is neat and expansive and there is art located all around the floor. There is an onsite restaurant with table and bar service. They have a connecting walkway that leads to other restaurants in the area as well. My husband and I attended an event, Sinatra Under the Stars, this past Saturday. This was my 2nd time visiting this establishment, with the first being when we came for my daughter's Sweet 16 photo shoot. The hotel has beautiful art installations which make it the perfect backdrop for photos. My husband and I even snapped a few that evening. Unfortunately, the rain caused the event to be moved inside to one of their ball rooms, which did take a little bit of "magic" out of the experience, but the musicians were still amazing. The staff working the bar and selling the small bites were welcoming and helpful, and the drinks were delicious. We really enjoyed ourselves and look forward to attending another "under the stars" event in the future. P.S. They encouraged us to get up and dance, but only 2 couples were brave enough to become part of the entertainment! read more

There are things I love about the Alexander and things I don't. The hotel is actually two older hotels that have been consolidated into one larger modern entity. It's tastefully renovated with great artwork lining the walls of beautifully lit and decorated hallways and common areas. My room ended up being one of their "apartment style" extended stay suites. It was obvious that this building was probably something like a Residence Inn that had seen better days but flipped quickly and cheaply to be part of the larger project. My room, although clean, felt liker corners had been cut. However, my coworkers who stayed in the main tower all said their rooms were great and fully updated. Decent gym and super convenient location. Friendly staff. Definitely worth a stay. read more

I stayed at The Alexander this weekend and the hotel itself is beautiful and well designed. The rooms were clean and the location is great. Unfortunately, the stay was not very relaxing because there was active construction directly above our room every morning starting around 9am.The gym was also closed during the stay. None of this was mentioned prior to booking. Had we known there would be daily construction noise and closed amenities, we likely would have chosen another hotel for the weekend. I hope the hotel will be more transparent about construction with future guests so they can plan accordingly. read more

Fresh ice water is available in the lobby area along with several seating areas, artwork, and a fireplace. The rooms are spacious and clean. We stopped in here after our walk around downtown. I just love the colors inside and out of the Alexander. As we're walking down south street towards it, you can see that this is not an ordinary hotel. The bar area has beautiful glass lamps hanging at different heights throughout. The hallways and common areas all have art displayed for free in a fun atmosphere. And the sidewalk lights up too. At least 4 Great restaurants in the immediate area! read more

For this great location and beautiful hotel, I found this hotel cost very reasonable! Could it be cheaper, sure! But it's not stupid expensive. Then when you get there, it really does make it all worth it. The place is stunning! Every worker we came across was incredibly kind and willing to offer help. Our room was spacious and clean. This is for the valet service only. The hotel itself was fine though a big portion of the lobby was under construction. My husband and I had driven from out of state in my new car that I had for 3 days, when we got the car back after the weekend there was a tear in the upholstery of the drivers seat that looked like keys or something in someone's pocket had made a jagged rip in the seat. We called immediately and told them and every time we tried to talk to someone about it they very much tried to ignore us (assuming because they knew we were from out of state so it would be easier to ignore and for us to drop it) we submitted a claim with the agency, which seems crazy that the agency itself gets to decide whether or not they are the ones that are liable for something but at this point, we still haven't heard anything back after appealing that decision and I still have a tear in my brand new car. read more

When Indy was selected as the city to host our work's annual summit gathering, I was PUMPED. I was even more excited when I learned that we'd all be staying at The Alexander Hotel, including me, who lived in an apartment that was only a few blocks away. There's nothing I love more then feeling like a tourist in my own city. I was already a big fan of the hotel before I ever stayed here, due to their amazing restaurants and bar. On the street (below the hotel), you'll find Nesso, one of the best Italian restaurants in the city. It's classy, delicious, and was created by a local restaurant company who nails every restaurant concept they touch. When you walk in the hotel entrance and go up the stairs, you'll see tons of colorful blown glass lanterns raining down from the ceiling. It's absolutely stunning and they lead you not only to the reception desk, but also to a cocktail and coffee bar, Plat 99, right off the lobby. Plat 99 makes some of the best drinks and apps you'll ever have, and turns into a coffee shop with homemade pastries by day. They have a big balcony with heat lamps as well as indoor seating. The entire hotel has a ton of famous and funky art throughout -- everything from murals in the parking garage to a big Madam Walker installation made out of combs. When I was brought to the room, I instantly loved how comfy it was, as well as the fact that they'd put a fun snack basket from our company in each room beforehand. Such a fun touch. The bed was comfy, the shades kept the room dark and there was minimal noise. We used one of the conference rooms for morning yoga and had a wonderful experience overall. I opted to stay here for our trip to Indy to see my Philadelphia Eagles play the Colts since this hotel is three blocks from LucasOil Stadium. The reviews were terrific and the price reasonable. First the good stuff: the staff is outstanding, from the front desk to the valet parking crew; all friendly and helpful. The hotel is clean and inviting with eclectic artwork at every turn. The bed, while very firm, was comfortable. The pillows, incredible to the extent I'm trying to find where to buy some. The hotel bar is nice, the in house Italian restaurant is reviewed separately, and the cafeteria style breakfast/brunch restaurant was great. Only gripes are, weirdly, throughout the building the hvac blowers are on and it is extremely uncomfortable drafty as a result. Even the employees are frustrated by it, so, obviously someone in the maintenance crew needs to step up and turn off the blowers. The room decor is okay enough despite the very old dresser and desk featuring very expensive tech from 1996 that doesn't quite support anything from this century, but hey... All in all the discomfort of the hvac dropped my rating from 4+ to 3. Resolving that serious glitch would move me to highly recommend this place. read more

I just spent a week at the Alexander and they wowed me every single day. Its big, its gorgeous, its sleek, its modern. Honestly, its spectacular. There is art everywhere you look -cool wall hangings made out of all kinds of materials, big bold colorful murals everywhere, statues and carvings everywhere. There is one giant piece of wall art in the lobby that appears to be a portrait of a man, but its made out of thousands of combs. Really ! In the halls, in the lounges, in the rooms, in the elevator landings, in the parking garage -everywhere you look is beauty and art and creativity. The staff was amazing- they smiled at me whenever I walked by and they remembered my name after one day. Our room was large and comfortable with plenty of outlets, sitting options, a nice TV, a room fridge, a K-Cup Machine, and a modern bathroom with a great shower. Our convention meeting rooms were perfect and the AV and internet worked well. And the food !! I had every breakfast, and just about every lunch and dinner inside the Alexander. Whether it was in the Market Table restaurant, or our banquet rooms, the food was stellar. The gelato bar received high marks. Just a few sore points. The parking rates are absurdly high. Valet parking runs a hefty $42 per night, or you can self park at $35 a night in an attached garage. Make sure you park on the garage's third floor to take advantage of the connected pedestrian skyway which leads to the hotel's second floor. Secondly -a few words about the location. The Alexander is in an under developed section of Indianapolis. Although its an easy walk to the mall, downtown, and the restaurants on Meridian Street, the odds are very high that you will be walking past some homeless folks who have taken residence on the sidewalks. read more

Great location, beautiful space, friendly staff. They just had a few hiccups while I was there that kept this from a 5 star experience but I'm sure it could be easily ironed out. First off, the building is beautiful and impressive. To say it's artistic is an understatement. Every nook and cranny is filled with something interesting to look at. The rooms are spacious and clean and the mattress is super comfy, the pillows were a bit firm for me but some folks like that so it's hard to please everyone in that regard. Bathroom was also huge and spotless. Staff is beyond friendly, from the moment I checked in when the front desk staff filled me in on all the hotel activities, to the moment I checked out and was thanked for my visit. I even had a lovely handwritten note in my room by the cleaning staff. The cons? Well, they seemed to have some electrical issues. When we arrived the heat was malfunctioning in most of the hotel, which meant my room was a breezy 59 degrees when I first arrived. The good news is I got it up to a 71 after cranking it up all the way for an hour, so sleeping was pretty comfortable. But I know it was worse in some of my colleagues rooms who couldn't get their heat up at all. There was also a freeze up in the garage when my boss was heading out in the morning and she got trapped for a half hour before they could get the garage open. Also, at one point one of the elevators was glitchy and I got scared for a moment that I was getting stuck. Luckily I got out after a few minutes and took the stairs! But I'd certainly come back and stay at the Alexander again. They were upgrading the locks while I was there so I feel like that lead to some of the garage issues and they just had bad luck with the heater and the elevator. Seems like this is out of the norm for them, so I'd be happy to return and try it out one more time! read more

I did not stay here, I came for the art. But now...I really DO want to stay here! I again found out about this place via a YouTube video from The Art Assignment. It was close to the end of having-to-pay-for-street-parking-time, so we grabbed a spot across the street from the hotel and moseyed on in. We walked around the open public spaces to take in some of the cool art works in the halls and stairways and lobby. It reminded me very much of 21C hotels, but a little less museum-y and a lot more traditional hotel with museum-y touches. It was bright and colorful and interesting. The front desk staff were nice and said hello. I would definitely look in to staying overnight here if I am in need of such a place in Indy! It is pretty close to the stadium and the downtown area so is convenient to many fun things to do in the city. Worth considering. read more

We stayed one night in one of the two bedroom residence suites. The room was great and had the space we needed. Beds a little firm but I could deal with that. However the showers in both bedrooms were so small it was nearly impossible to feel like you were getting clean. If you are anything larger than average the shower is too small and made smaller by the bad placement of a shower caddy at chest height right across from the handle. The whole shower space was probably 30 inches square (see picture). Additionally one of the wash clothes in the shower, which had been laundered so it was technically clean, had make up stains on it from a prior guest which was very off-putting. read more

Rooms are comfortable but front desk staff were very unhelpful, multiple charges on credit card that weren't real, coffee maker not working in room and they wouldn't replace, and a weed smell Saturday night My "highlight" however was ordering breakfast room service. We stayed here last year and was planning on making it a yearly stay. Last year our stay was nice. We reserved a corner king room and it was beautiful. This year we didn't have the same experience. We needed to take our dog because a friend cancelled on us. The hotel stated it was pet friendly. Well, not so much!! We had to sign a form stating we will not leave her in the room at all!! Our other dogs (large and old) were already at a daycare. So, we had to rush back and drop our young dog off. Almost missing the cut off by 5 mins! I totally understand about not leaving her for hours! Two night stay and not leave her for even breakfast!! Along with $50 cleaning fee and $50 dollars a day AND not being able to leave for even 10mins. Is ridiculous!! The cherry on top of this experience was the elevator was working sporadically!! I had a great stay at The Alexander while lending a hand for Yelp Indy's INCREDIBLE Totally Bazaar party! The hotel is beautifully appointed and conveniently connected to a breakfast spot, pop up Miracle Bar, and much more. This is a very central part of town and easy for Uber drivers to navigate to and from with a large drive up area. I loved my room, most especially the robe that I dove into after a long day of travel! The walls are a little thin making the Big 10 2am crowd pretty legible during my second night there. Nevertheless, the pillows are super comfy and the shower products are great if you're travelling light. The front desk was a huge help throughout the entirety of my stay. My lazy butt did wish that the ground level elevators would take you directly up to your room floor, instead of having to walk up stairs THEN get to the elevators. Decent hotel coffee and EXCELLENT coffee down in Plat 99! I look forward to staying here again the next time I take a visit to Indy. read more

I have nothing but great memories at The Alexander. Not only did I meet my fiancé here, but we've had pretty much every major relationship milestone take place in or around this hotel (he asked me to be his girlfriend here in the courtyard outside, proposed to me at the bar Plat 99, and we took our engagement photos here). Sadly, I have yet to actually stay a night in one of their rooms, but I'm always in awe of the art and decor inside of the place. It's a great place to take pictures, have a wedding, or meet for drinks. The staff is very polite and accommodating. They had no issues with us taking engagement photos on their grounds. Sadly this hotel did not live up to our hopes and expectations. We were there this week for the FFA Convention. First: we were on the 5th and 4th floor. No problem if the elevator worked. No elevator = lugging luggage up 5 flights of stairs. And they have no clue when it will be fixed. I am sure this does not meet ADA minimum requirements. Bright spot two young men helped get our luggage up to our rooms. Kudos to those two. Second: We had 4 suites with us having a total of 20 people which we chose because they were advertised as having washer and dryers. Well one of the rooms did the others had the hook up but not the appliance. Our kids packed with the understanding we could wash clothes. When we asked we were told we could wash clothes on the 1st floor for a cost of $1.50 and they would provide detergent. That would have been fine if the elevator worked but lugging laundry up and down 5 flights was a hard no for us. Third: first night I called down 2 times asking for blankets and sheets for the pull out couch. After waiting over 45 minutes, I got dressed and went down to the front desk my self. Bright spot here because the security guard on duty on Tuesday Oct. 31, Greg I think, took pity on me and took me to get the required linens and carried them up the 5 flights of stairs for me. Fourth: the breakfast was slow and really not good. Perhaps it was the fruit flies that were in our juice, food, coffee etc. We never went there again. Fifth: the amenities in the rooms were not consistent. Some had hair dryers others none. Some had robes others none. Some had body wash others only shampoo. Some had extra blankets for the pull out couch others had nothing. The same amenities should be found in each suite. Sixth: we called down the day before we were leaving to ask if we could store our luggage somewhere for the day since our flight was not until the evening. When we came down the next morning the desk person seemed quite flustered with all of our luggage to store. He finally got over it and was pleasant. Small win for us. Bright spot was Kekoa the valet on duty who did come up and help some of us down with our luggage. They are so very lucky to have such a polite young man working there. He certainly deserves a raise. Overall it was all of the little things that added up to our rating. They should try to do better. I understand it can't be perfect however, this was not acceptable and I would not recommend this hotel if you are there for any length of time. We stayed at The Alexander for a swim meet in Indianapolis. My husband is t-1 paraplegic and we needed and accessible room. We used our Wyndham rewards points to stay free, but this is a $$$ hotel. We were in a 2 bedroom suite. The accessible bathroom was great. Plenty of room and the accessible shower had a pull down seat. We didn't use that, but we could've made it work if needed to. Stayed 3 nights for NCAA Tourney. Close to the Arena, but infrastructure within walking distance is sparse. Literally no place to eat lunch or dinner within walking distance. Downtown hotels at a similar price located nearer to every place you'd want to go in Indy. After 2 nights asked to have my room cleaned....garbage baskets were full, bath needed cleaning. Front desk said they'd send up towels BUT THEIR POLICY IS NOT TO CLEAN ROOMS DURING THE STAY OF A GUEST. So my garbage baskets overflowed and the room stayed dirty. Absurd. Based on location and lack of cleaning service, I'd pass on the Alexander for sure. read more

The Alexander is a beautiful, modern hotel that's full of interesting and captivating art installations. To top it off, my visit was timed during the holidays so the Christmas decor was an added bonus! My room was comfortable, albeit a little cold as there were known issues with the HVAC system happening during my stay. Luckily, I was able to get the system to warm my room up enough to be cozy for the short time I was actually in my room. I arrived early and was exhausted after a few non-stop weeks so I really enjoyed some quiet time in my room with cable TV, binging on the latest season of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Now that was the R&R I needed! I ordered room service - sweet potato fries and a chicken caesar salad - both of which fulfilled my cravings despite the simple preparation. For the remainder of the stay, the service was accommodating and friendly. I took advantage of the Keurig coffee setup each morning and liked the large bathroom to get ready in. The beds were cozy and I slept well. There was some construction across the street that woke me a bit early. Nothing outrageous, but enough to wake me up just before my alarm. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. The hotel was in a great location with easy access walking or by Uber/Lyft to downtown Indy. Be sure to visit Plat99 and Nesso during your stay too! read more

After a rocky start, The Alexander came through in a huge way. If more hotels were like this one, many more business travelers would be rested, contented and loyal for life. A hotel can be dressed to the nines but without great leadership, it's just a building. What sets The Alexander apart is its leadership. I drove from Nashville to Indianapolis on an overcast, chilly early winter Monday. Even though the drive was no where near the longest I've trekked, I was still tired and anxious to relax once I checked in. I parked in the adjoining garage (cheaper than valet and directly accessible to the hotel via the third floor) and walked in. First impression: very nice. The modern/cool art aesthetic sets a mood and the lush colors and tactile art/decor lends a lot to guests feeling immediately at home. After a quick and pleasant check in, I made my way to my room. I noticed that it was pretty chilly but I chalked that up to the heat having not been on. After two hours and no change in the 65/66 degree room, I called down to the front desk. The gentleman was apologetic and sent a maintenance man to come to my room. After a short while of trying to fix the problem, the maintenance man suggested I moved to another room. I didn't have a lot of bags, so it wasn't a big deal. Room #2, however, had a similar heat issue. The HVAC unit only blew cold air and the longer we (the maintenance man, myself and the guest services supervisor) stayed in the room, the colder it got. The supervisor, Lynsey, realized that the room wasn't suitable, so I moved to another room. Unfortunately, room #3 hadn't been serviced. The bathroom wasn't clean and the sheets were unchanged from the previous guest. I was embarrassed to call the front desk but I did so anyway. The front desk sent someone to the room to change the sheets but I received a call from Lynsey who was extremely apologetic. She mentioned that she was going to find another room that was 100% clean and had no heat issues. At this point, I wasn't even angry. I was a bit embarrassed for being 'that guy' but each room had a problem. I was encouraged, though, that Lynsey took the matter seriously and was so kind and patient. Never once did I feel like a bother. I'd been in previous hotel snafus where the management couldn't care less and were anything but hospitable. I stood around Room #3 for a while when Lynsey came by and said my new room was ready. It was ready but I wasn't. Y'all, Lynsey put me in the/a Presidential Suite! When I tell you my jaw dropped to the floor... I couldn't believe it. I opened the door to the room and I could have cried and screamed (in joy). I was tired, hungry (by now it was close to 10 pm and the room saga had been going on for a few hours) and a little chilly but I was so appreciative. Lynsey said that *she* was appreciative of my patience and civility in the awkward situation and she wanted to thank *me*. This doesn't happen. Even at prestigious properties, things like this don't happen. I wanted to hug her but I needed to keep it professional. I shook her hand and thanked her abundantly. I'll never forget her kindness and concern for me as a guest of her hotel. Over the years, I've been lucky to stay at some great properties. Rarely have I received service like this -- even when things have gone horribly wrong. It's true that people always remember the way you made them feel. Lynsey made me feel heard, valued and wanted. I can't thank her enough. It's the people that make a business, folks. The people. It goes without saying (and I am trying to wrap this up) but the Suite was incredible. I felt like a celebrity. It was almost 1500 square feet, boasted a kitchen with drink-stocked fridge, a dining room (with gorgeous table), a living room (with city views), huge couch, throw blankets, mini desk, half bath, separate entrance, huge master bedroom, large writer's desk, plush chair, incredible bed, deep closets with robe, one of the largest bathrooms I've ever seen in a hotel with professional lighting, walk-in shower with two heads, soaking tub with mission controls, and a huge window for gazing out into the city. I never wanted to leave my room. Not once. Not ever. Obviously, the accommodations were stunning and the best of the best. Anything less than 5 stars is insane. But I have to go back to the true star of this experience being Lynsey Priller. The Alexander has a gem in her and she sets the bar for matching the venue with service/experience. There are many high-end hotel properties out there. There aren't nearly as many that are staffed with professionals who are about their guests and the property. I had the pleasure of staying at this beautiful hotel for a week-long stint in the lovely Circle City. I arrived at about one in the morning, parked my car in the adjoining parking garage, and found my way to the reception desk. My check-in was super easy and the staff working was very friendly. When I got to my hotel room, I immediately discovered that the heat wasn't working. Being the middle of December, this was a big bummer. It was about 55 degrees in my room and that I couldn't handle. I called down to the front desk and they were quick to send help. The issue ended up being much bigger than just my room, the entire floor didn't have heat! Oh goodness, how does this happen? No worries though, they were eventually able to find me a room with working heat and they even gave me free breakfast to make up for it. Like Johnny T., I wasn't event mad, just happy they were quick to remedy the situation. I ended up staying all week in an extended-stay room, which was bigger than the original room I was assigned. This was pretty cool, as I had a kitchenette and it ended up being really useful throughout the week. My bed was extremely comfortable, the lightening in the bathroom was worthy of the best selfies a girl could ask for, and the cleaning staff was polite as can be. On top of my room, the bar attached to the hotel was fantastic and was perfect for a night cap. I never made it to the gym, but my coworkers and I did reserve a room for a sunrise yoga class and I highly recommend that for anyone staying for a while. The instructor wasn't affiliated with the hotel but ability to use their space was ideal. Overall, my stay at The Alexander was great. Yes, there was some engineering issues (the heat, and the elevators and parking garage also had issues) but nothing was extremely disruptive. I would definitely stay here again and I recommend it to anyone looking for a place to rest their head in Indy. read more
