Abbot Pub is a British style pub conveniently located near Yonge and Lawrence, with easy access to TTC and street parking available. The overall vibe has the feel of a typical neighbourhood pub with a bar situated at the back of the restaurant. Service was average and could use some improvement. The menu features brunch in addition to standard pub fare. Beer selection on tap is fairly limited, offering choices like Guinness and Creemore Lager but don't carry standard options such as Canadian or Bud Light for those who prefer them. I ordered the fish and chips which arrived surprisingly quickly. The portion size was larger than expected and the fish was a bit overly battered, while the fries were crispy and well cooked. The coleslaw ended up being the star of the dish with a fresh, light and a great compliment to the fried food. Unfortunately, there were noticeable bits of excess oil left on the fries which took away from the overall appeal. Overall, the food and service were decent enough, but not memorable enough for me to go out of my way to return. read more

The Abbot Pub, located on Yonge St. near Golfdale Rd in the Yonge/Lawrence area has been serving gastropub fare for many years. They have the pub classics as well as have weekend brunch as well. The interior is classic English pub style where it likely hasn't changed for a while now. They have many drinks (beers and alcohol) offered as well that is listed on their special boards. They also have food specials as well. My friends and I came by on Canada Day looking for some pub food. We were promptly greeted at the door and given a choice of where to sit (we opted for a booth). Menus were given to us and we were given ample time to look at their offerings. There was a good selection of food items that I had a hard time choosing between the burger, fish and chips, club sandwich or their shrimp curry. I ended up ordering the fish and chips with a glass of white wine (wine sizes come in either 6 or 9 oz). My friends opted for the burger. Food and drinks came at a reasonable time. The food took a longer than expected, however, once I had my first bite I knew why. The pub definitely delivers in quality and to make sure their food is executed well. My fish and chips were great (came with 2 big pieces of fish!)! The batter on the fish was perfectly crispy and the fish inside was cooked perfectly. The chips were well seasoned and had a slight crispy. The plate of food also came with a side of coleslaw that tasted homemade. Tartar sauce was great too. I was able to try some of the burger from my friend and it was cooked well. Overall, a great local pub for pub classics. Good service and very chill vibes. I have always liked The Abbot Pub. I've been going there on and off, for a number of years. It's a nice place to go, if you need a bit of quiet time, I was in a hurry the last time I was in, and maybe I shouldn't have been, but anyways, the food has and still is, excellent!! The service is expedient, and all in all, I have always been impressed with the kindness, and conviviality of the staff, and the patrons of the establishment. What a great little pub! It's been a long time since I've been to England, but this is how I remember the British pubs to be: not fancy, kinda dim lighting, dark wood tables and chairs, with plain walls with chalkboard menus, and a traditional wood bar in the back. My Toronto friends live nearby so they've dined here often in the past, but this was my kid's and my first time here. We were, in total, a party of five when we recently had dinner here. Most in our party had burgers but my kid and I shared the grilled rainbow trout and the grilled chicken Cobb salad. Both were terrific: fresh and flavorful. Surprising for a pub, I thought. Here's the kicker: they serve hot sticky toffee pudding. And this dessert IS.TO.DIE.FOR. It's now weeks after we've dined there and my kid is still talking about this dessert. She tells me daily that this was the best dessert she ever had in her life and that this is now her favorite dessert of all time. (This is pretty amazing for a chocoholic like my kid!). If you never had this before, you MUST try it, and try it here where it truly is excellent. Service was wonderful. One observation of note: the bathrooms are downstairs, at the end of a longish hallway. I'm not sure what the men's bathroom is like, but the women's had a strong, pervasive musky smell. Dank and musky. And when I visited the washroom (twice. Don't judge!), at one point the TO subway must've been passing by nearby, underground, close, and the room vibrated and the sound of the subway hummed. Very interesting bathroom visits! The Abbot Pub is the first pub I been to that has so many young kids (under 10 or younger!). This place has more kids than any of the McDonald I been to on a Saturday Night! Meeting my Yelp Drinking Buddy for a pre UYE/dinner drink, the Abbot Pub has this friendly and welcoming vibe. I seated myself at one of the high tables at the back of the pub facing the bar. Bartender was quick in acknowledge me and got me a menu right away! Draft Beer selections is OK, but not too extensive and so are the bottles. Watching CP24 and waiting for my YDB to waltz in late as usual... but I felt right at home and comfy at The Abbot Pub. Maybe I forgot I am in a watering hole instead of a family restaurant with all these young familes around me? There was a wait for the table by the time we ready to leave!! This is a very nice "British" style pub. Everything about our meal was excellent. We had a spinach artichoke dip as appetizer, I had a veg Jalfrezi and my wife a Root vegetable tatin. Good vegetarian choices. Food was tasty and way above typical pub fare. Nice collection of beers on tap. Ended the meal with an awesome sticky toffee pudding. Reasonably priced and warm service. What a great spot for lunch, diner, family gathering or just to enjoy the vibrancy of the place. Friendly staff with a welcoming atmosphere. Good selection of beer on tap and wine. They have Classic style interior which I like. They are also doing good job on food! They have daily special menu as well which is picked by chef daily. I got steamed mussels and steak salad. Everything was perfect cooked and quality of seafood and beef was very fresh. Lady who served my table was attentive and professional. She looked busy but never forget checked up my table asking everything is okay. And this is great place for kid too. Kids friendly menu is another plus. It is nice and comportable neighbourhood pub. The staff were great and service was excellent but the food itself is some of the worse pub food I've ever had. Wings were the worst I've had, dry, overcooked, and the sauce was sparse. Fish and chips weren't anything great and the butter chicken was again so dry, a tiny serving, and I don't know what the bread was but it wasn't naan. Had a hankering for fish and chips. Taking my father to lunch and someone at his residence suggested the Abbott. Glad they did! Fish and chips the way remember it - fresh flaky cod with a crisp batter - no grease, just flavour! Paired with a half pint of Tankhouse ale and it was a perfect lunch. This is a nice friendly gastro pub, right on Yonge street just a block or two north of Lawerence, where if your meeting someone for lunch or brunch you can't go wrong. They serve the obligatory craft beers, but also some classics like Guinness. I had a pint of porter, Guinness of course, and it was drinkable. We all had brunch, full English breakfasts etc. all very satisfied. Good value and nice little place. read more

I'm always on the hunt for a decent pub meal, so The Abbot was a natural choice for a Sunday brunch. I feel like you can't really go wrong with Eggs Benedict, and while The Abbot does indeed have that dish on its menu, I opted to go with the more exotic sounding Cheddar Buck Rarebit. (2 poached eggs, house made peameal bacon, english muffin, cheddar beer sauce, breakfast potatoes, fresh fruit.) So there was really nothing that wholeheartedly worked in this dish. The English muffin was barely toasted and tasted like the generic kind you'd buy at the supermarket, while the bacon was so sparse I could barely even tell it was there. I will admit that the eggs were cooked quite well, so there's that at least. But the cheddar beer sauce was incredibly weak and kind of bland, frankly. The breakfast potatoes were fine but nothing special, while the "fresh fruit" had clearly emerged from a store-bought fruit cup. The ambiance is fine for what it is and I would consider returning for a drink. But the food? Never again. read more

This is pub located near where I live. Driven and walked by it many times, always buzzing with people, but never really been until about a couple months ago when I had some friends from out of town visit. The staff was very approachable; we were seated right away and presented with menus quickly. We sat near the back, on high tables. I thought the stool style chair was going to be uncomfortable but my butt was fine. I ordered the fish and chips, while my friend ordered a chicken salad. Here is why I ended up giving the place three stars--my fish and chips were absolutely fantastic. Light crispy batter, flaky fish that was moist. Fantastic crunchy hand cut fries. Fatty tar tar sauce and fatty coleslaw. What could be better, right? Well, the salad for starters.. ok ok, so who orders salads at a pub, I know. But hey, we wanted some greens in our systems. The chicken was definitely out of a box and appeared to have almost been.. dare I say, microwaved?? It definitely was not the grilled chicken type, that was for sure. So it was a mixed bag experience from the food point... As for the ambiance, the customers were on the very loud side. Especially the heckling middle aged cougars next to us. I know it was noisy in there, but was there a need to add even more decibel to that mess? Anyway, I would definitely go back just for the fish and chips.. which I probably only eat a couple times a year, so it will not be a frequent visit for me. read more

Recently visited the Abbot Pub for an after work beer and appetizer. It's sort of a bright and dark bar at the same time... very nice window seats on a nice day. Had shrimp and the spinach dip. Pretty standard, nothing wrong with them. Friendly service. Good location. Fair prices. They do have the Red Racer on tap and my new favourite Weihenstephan in that HUGE glass!! I love that beer. The interior is nice, spacious and has a lofty ceiling, it is more of a restaurant than pub feel. Servers are very nice, vibe is casual, on a Saturday night it's relatively busy quite a few families are here with kids as well. Good times with good friends here at the restopub where everyone knows your name (probably). I dropped in on a Sunday night with a group of 5 to try their brews as well as have a bite for dinner, and the atmosphere does not disappoint. It's one of those places that has great comfort food and service that makes you feel welcome. Most of our group had the Roast beef dinner with Yorkshire pudding and mash ($22) which everyone seemed to love. The roast looked thick and juicy, and the portion was big enough for all. I had the mussels with chorizo ($12) which I got because I love mussels, and they were very fresh, with the chorizo giving a meaty flavour. Originally the mussels came with 2 pieces of bread, but the server was kind enough to bring more bread when asked. Service was good, and we tried many of their draught and bottled beers on a Sunday night. Our favourite was the Innis and Gunn beer aged in Scotch Whisky barrels. Will come in again for a quick drink and pub fare with a little extra flare. read more

The cheese crock is also yummy and a nice start . They have a great selection of meal choices and always have some Irish inspired specials. Not much selection for beers on tap, but they have Guinness, which is good! It is very cozy inside and is great for a date nite, family nite or chillin with friends. I visited the Abbot to hook up with a small group of friends for a drink. The decor here is classic pub style. It was a little empty on a Saturday afternoon and the staff was quick to have us seated and noticing the rest of group drift in over the next hour. No one had to to wait for the first drink and the attentiveness during our multi hour visit was stellar. We weren't being particularly experimental that day on the beer side so I can only say they had everything we wanted. The food was a bit pleasant of surprise as it was of the gastro pub variety. I had the brisket which was quite good but felt just a little short on execution. My wife had the pork schnitzel and again was good but not outstanding. The presentation was also extremely good. I would absolutely go back and would recommend. It may not quite hit the gastro pub expectations but is still head and shoulders above regular pub fare. The exceptionally attentive service also helps nail a solid four in my books. read more

On my third visit, I tempted fate and ordered something new; the meatloaf. Unfortunately, the meatloaf was a huge disappointment. It had the texture of cat food and was almost completely devoid of flavour (along with the gravy), except for the overpowering taste of vinegar. The Abbot is not your average pub. Neighbourhood favourite for us! Great place to unwind and enjoy a fantastic upscale; gastro; bistro (inset adjective if choice) pub style meal. Wonderful food, staff and atmosphere. We love it so much it has become a weekly staple in our lives. The menu has something for everyone and the chef is happy to accommodate substitutions for even he pickiest patron (me!); nightly specials offer a chance o try something new and always delight. My boyfriend and I frequent this gastro-pub for the delicious food, great beer selection and friendly effective service. As a young couple we usually languish over our cheese and beer crock with drinks. The cheese dip is amazing, and the bread served with it is even better, if you are economical with your dip the servers are happy to bring out a little more bread. Also try the spicy buffalo shrimp, huge and tasty with just the right spice. For drinks the selection is perfect; he has weihenstephaner hefeweissbier on draft, a delicious cloudy wheat beer with the best creamy finish, and I a glass of house white. We never feel rushed or out of place amongst the families, older couples, single guys at the bar and young couples like us. Be sure to check out the specials board where the chef uses local and seasonal items to create some most spectacular dishes. Perhaps the best thing I ever ate was a halibut mille-feuille that was so beautifully presented the servers took pictures of it before it made it to my table (still piping hot!). read more

Our server was on point but never too persistent. Now for the food I had the chicken wings, because chicken wings should always be eaten at a pub. They were savory and saucy with bbq sauce All the way. My buddy beside me had fish and chips, which I tried because I had to. The fish was delicious and tasted fresh, the batter wasn't too much just right. The coleslaw tasted home made and the tarter sauce definitely didn't come from out of a bottle. I had the purple haze martini drink. I read the reviews before coming here. So I just had to try it. I was not disappointed may I add. When we're in the mood for a comfortable drink whilst watching the game, we often end up here. Booth seats, good service, and a dark and warm ambience to go with a surprisingly good menu. I recommend the Buffalo Shrimp and their burgers are no slouch either. All in all, a slight step ahead of your typical pub because of their awesome food options. read more

Checked this place out on a weekday - and glad we did.. Great ambience, service attentive but not annoyingly so. Good selection of beers on tap - will get more adventurous with those on future visits (yeah, I think I'll come back..) Food wise, just had an appetizer - the pate with pistachio nuts, blueberry port coulis, and cognac. Simply awesome. Not much of a salt sprinkler, it could definitely use a light touch, so did the unthinkable and sprinkled some on. Even without it though, definitely a 5. Another classic example of visiting more places than I can remember to review in a given week/month/year. I picked The Abbot Pub as the perfect midway meet up spot for Toronto and GTA yelpers early this year in February. It's easily accessible by TTC for those reliant on public transit, and close enough to the 401 for those driving themselves to find it with relative ease. It's a quaint, little neighbourhood spot between Yonge/Lawrence and Yonge/York Mills, if walking, be sure to have your app open because it's easy to walk right past it, but once inside you'll find a bustling little pub that's lined with booths and tables and classic wooden bar, the perfect spot to come celebrate a success or drown your sorrows. The beer selection was fairly standard and I went with a Mill street Organic on my last visit, but on my recent visit I went for glasses of their house Cab-Sauv which was pretty good. My gripe with this place is that for a pub there is only ONE television in the entire place and it's behind the bar and not easily viewable from the one entire side of the bar. Also, the place can get busy pretty quick so if you're coming with a larger group call ahead as part of our group had to stand around our hightops while waiting for additional seating to open up Would I come back? Yes sure Do I recommend you visit? If you're in the area it the best Pub for your buck X-factors? Apparently the wings were pretty awesome, I didn't have them Eatcrest Out! read more

A nice little gastro pub in the Yonge & Lawrence area that is always a good welcoming place to drop into for a bite and a drink. My wife is the beer drinker and loves the selection, I will drink the red wine which also has a great selection. It is a cozy little place and the staff really makes you feel at home. I will often opt for a few of the apps for a meal instead of an actual entree. My all time fave is the house made Pate with a blueberry coulis. I love their Pate, give it a try. The Buffalo Shrimp are also very good as is the Calamari, Caesar Salad and Cobb Salad. For a main, try the Burgers, the Curries, Fish and Chips and the Ploughman's Lunch. I have not yet had a meal from the Abbot that I didnt like. Comments/Criticisms/Suggestions Food - thus far, nothing I haven't liked. Try the Pate. Pleased on entrance at the ambiance and decor. Cozy, but I found the booth tables to be a little high and the seat stuffing to be a little lacking. Great music in the background. My lady and I started with the smoked salmon app and were blown away by its simplicity and enjoyability. I would have prefered an entree version to be available! I had the shepperd's pie and she had the meatloaf. Both quite impressed but the meatloaf was a tad superior. Nothing outside the box at all but very well-executed. Next time I go I intend to try the lamb sausages because I'm curious about aby place that claims to have made it's own mustard. Tap selections were limited but well-chosen and fresh. I appreciate the half-pint offering but the price compared to the full-pint seems a bit inflated. Enjoyable service. Prompt, kind and effective. read more

Wander down the street to The Abbot for good beer and pub food. This is a great spot frequented by local young adults and families alike. Busy most nights, you may have to wait a few minutes for a table for dinner, but you can always grab a drink at the bar while you wait. *Tip* You can eat anything from the menu at the bar if you manage to snag a seat. read more

In need of a change of scenery, I did a general search for the Yonge Street area and The Abbot came up as the first match, so we decided to check it out for some drinks. There was plenty of street parking available in front and down the closest side street. It wasn't too busy inside, but I visited on a weeknight early in the week which probably has a lot to do with it. The interior was neat and cozy. The beer selection was above average with several local beers to choose from as well. I stuck with something familiar and didn't try anything new. We stayed longer than expected and eventually ordered the Artichoke Dip appetizer fairly late in the evening. It came out very quickly considering the time of night that we placed the order, and was very tasty. The service was good. It was comfortable inside despite being seated near the entrance on a chilly winter night. Overall it was a good alternative with no disappointments. I would return again another time, and most likely to try the fish and chips because someone else ordered them and it made me very hungry and envious! read more
