The 3rd Corner is an interesting combination of a wine shop and a bistro. It's in the Lumberyard development in Encinitas. There is a nice bar near the entry, racks of wine for purchase, tables among some of the retail wine racks and some outdoor seating on a nice patio. Since my partner was running late, I checked in and went to sit at the bar for a glass of wine. On a Thursday nite, the bar was completely full except for a seat at the end. I ordered a glass of chardonnay while waiting and catching Thursday Nite Football on the TV behind the bar. Despite being a wine shop, they have a full bar here with about a half-dozen craft beers on tap and a selection of distilled spirits. First, the wine. Being a wine shop, the 3rd Corner excels here. They have a nice by-the-glass list with some rotating wines as well as about a half dozen "reserve" wines. If you want to go with a bottle, you choose one from the shop, pay the retail price and they add a corkage fee. A good and inexpensive way to go since most restaurants charge 2-3X retail for their wine list. Since we wanted to explore different wines we went by the glass. I love that they serve their wines in Reidel stemware!! Also, the pours are of good size, the fill the mini carafes to the brim. (Pours lately seem to be getting smaller at other establishments. Not here!) This is somewhat reflected in the price. The wines were served at the proper temperature and of the wines I'd tasted, all were fresh and none showed signs of sitting open too long!! Well done! Then the food. The menu is best described as California Cuisine/New American/Euro Bistro. We split a chicken liver mousse appetizer that was very good. For mains we had the goat cheese salad and the ham and brie sandwich. The salad was very well done and the sandwich was on a delicious crusty baguette. I'd say the food here is very, very good and excellent for the price point!! One more glass of wine at the bar with the friendly and hard working bartender. We brought our neighbors to the Encinitas location for dinner on Tuesday, July 15, 2025. We had raved to them about this place, so they said, "Let's go!" I made a reservation for the previous Monday because their reservation system let me. When we pulled up they were closed so we had to go somewhere else. Strike 1. So we decided to reschedule for Tuesday, July 15. We had planned to order cocktails first because the website said that Tuesdays are Happy Hour All day. My neighbor wanted to double check that it was indeed still HH. The waiter said that is no longer offered. Then why does their website still say it? We fully expected our waiter to honor it. He did not. Strike 2. Now I'll tell you about our waiter. He was tall with dark, curly hair. He did not introduce himself, wore no name tag, and waited for us to speak. He acted like he didn't want to be there. The guys went to choose a bottle of wine. I noticed that in that section of the restaurant, which is near the bar, there were boxes all over the tables and things were being moved. Not good for ambiance. We wondered if they are closing. The waiter came back to open the wine but did not take our order. In fact, we waited quite a while for him to take our order. Our neighbor ordered pasta and asked if it came with bread. He just said, "No." I mentioned that they used to bring bread to the table before we even ordered. He said it is no longer included and would be an extra fee. He didn't tell us what the fee would be, but she ordered it anyway. Strike 3. Seriously, what has happened to the Third Corner? We used to bring all of our friends there, but we noticed it going down hill quite a while ago. The food is still good, though the selections are fewer, but the service is horrible! One more thing we've always wondered about. We are wine club members, but when we choose a bottle of wine to enjoy with our dinner there, we have to pay full price plus corkage. That has never made sense to us. Our wine club discount should still apply whether we take it to go or drink it there. It seems like a slap in the face to the most loyal customers. So, are they closing? Nobody knows. And why should I keep bringing friends there? It has become embarrassing. It's sad to see a restaurant we've enjoyed for so many years become like this. Maybe the owner needs to be more present, maybe they need a new manager, they definitely need to train their waiters! The 2 stars are for the chef. read more

Was looking for a post-work place with drinks and dinner at a cute, inviting spot with friends, and chose 3rd Corner. It was fine for what it is- a spot with nice wine and more upscale American and Euro-style food. I thought it was overpriced and not as nice as I expected, honestly. We got the baked Brie and Brussels to share- they were both good but the Brussels were the winner between them. I got the duck confit entree, which was just fine, but again, I expected better than "just fine" for the ambiance and the price. The food wasn't presented in the most appetizing manner. The service was also blah, our server seemed pretty disinterested and was a bit of a turnoff. Overall, "just ok" fits the bill, I expected more than what we received. read more

Customer service is pretty bad. In fact, the last three times we had a meal here, we pretty much had the same experience and my husband said never again! But I really liked this place and encouraged him to try one more time. We were the only two people sitting at the bar after three other diners left. We ordered drinks and waited, waited, waited for our food order to be taken. My best guess we waited 20 minutes. The waiter seemed like he was going out of his way to not take our order. It kind of irks me because he is the same waiter I slipped a $20.00 when a girl friend of mine gave him a lame tip when we dined together. The customer service was lacking then too. I say the owner needs a secret diner to document the restaurants performance. Or visit your security cameras to see if your employees are taking good care of your customers. read more

This place is an absolute MUST TRY! The crème brûlée is to die for, and they have an extremely reasonable $7 corkage fee for bottles consumed on premises. (Seriously, the try the crème brûlée, it's out of this world) The staff is all extremely friendly and very knowledgeable about all types of wines. The atmosphere is super fun, but also laid back and classy at the same time. Just as important to a lot of people as the aforementioned...the prices! The prices are incredibly reasonable. They also have wine racks all throughout the wine bar so you'll be able to find anything you're looking for. read more

Feels just like a hotel bar like a Hilton or Hampton inn or Marriott... It has that macaroni grill ambiance with the light jazz music coming out of the ceiling speakers. Schnitzel could have been pounded thinner to be more tender but crusty breading was great and wish they had put mushies and sauce off to side rather than on top of the crusty breading. Wednesday Burger night is especially fun and includes an excellently cooked burger and glass of your favorite beverage all for $25. Wow! First off, we've been going to Third Corner for many years and always have enjoyed it but tonite changed our whole perspective. We rolled in late on a Sunday hoping to get dinner and were pleasantly welcomed by Zaul (call him Z) to sit at a table or join in at the bar. We chose the bar and if we owned a restaurant he would have been not just poached but full on kidnapped. He is the BEST server/bartender we both have EVER experienced! He LOVES his job and it shows. He can't hide it! Oh yeah, the food was excellent as usual. :) We started with their delicious baguette with butter and an heirloom tomato salad and blue cheese stuffed Tito's martinis with dirty on the side. Z served the martinis ice cold with ice shards floating on top; perfect! On to our entrees of Shrimp Linguine and Flat iron steak which were just what the doctor ordered! Too full to finish so doggie bags for lunch tomorrow. What a great experience! BTW Z works Sundays. read more

Wine lovers delight! Did a girl dinner here yesterday, wasn't my 1st time but it was for my girlfriends. You walk in through there main entrance which opens to their retail space. I love that you are free to explore, shop and take your wine to the table to be corked. We had wanted to go with Prosecco and the staff was great at showing us the selections and offering suggestions. We purchased a couple bottles and they chilled 1 for us and brought us another bottle that had already been chilled. That was a fantastic little piece of service that goes such a long way. We started with the appetizers of shrimp taquitos and the puff pastry baked Brie. The taquitos are served with a fresh (spicy) guacamole and cheese. They were beautifully crunchy and flavor packed. Taquitos had plenty for sharing and easy to hand eat. The Brie was served along side a tossed salad that truthfully stole the dish in my opinion! The dressing was so creamy and herbaceous that it was hard to not eat the entire thing to myself! The baked Brie was well done, very tasty and paired great with that heaven salad on the side. Between the table we ordered the burger (protein style), chicken sandwich and the duck confit. The burger was nicely prepared and presented and served with fries. I didn't taste the burger by the can confirm my friend was satisfied with her dish and took the leftovers. The chicken sandwich was a bit on the dry side though, the chicken was perfectly cooked and juicy. The chick sandwich was also served along side fries and the portion is not lacking. My dish, which is my go to is the duck confit. Duck confit isn't on many menus I frequent and I've found it most times isn't cooked to the degree (fat rendered) it should be. This is NOT the case with 3rd corner, the duck is perfect EVERY time! The duck is served atop a bean cassoulet that includes bacon, spinach and sausage. This dish is hearty and beautiful. We took dessert to go and went with the chocolate marquis, crème brûlée and bread pudding. I was warned about taking the brûlée to go and should have listened. It was still tasty but didn't hold its form due to the travel. The flavor was there and I will definitely be having in restaurant next time. The marquis is a chocolate lovers dream, it has a very light and silky mouth feel with a punch of chocolate. The bread pudding was where it was at for me! It contained large chocolate chips, was rich, soft and tasted so deliciously buttery. Both the bread pudding and marquis were served with ice cream. The overall experience was perfect for a dinner date. I do suggest reservations as the seating can be tricky and it did get crowded as we were leaving. Our server was friendly (looked like Miranda from sex and the city :)) and did her best to keep up with everyone. It did appear she may have been the only server, which likely spread her a little thin. Even with that note, she was great and was always working hard to keep her guests happy. read more

Been going to 3rd Corner in OB for years so I decided to give the Encinitas location a try. Parking is definitely better in Encinitas, and the ambiance is undoubtedly higher scale. I ended up making reservations for 2 people around 8pm on a Thursday via Yelp and was seated right away. I had two of their margaritas and one mule, which were all delish. Our meal was a charcuterie board, which was fine, but the duck confit was excellent. Dessert wasn't had, but I am sure they had great options as well. Group of us regularly go for Wednesday Burger & Wine night but very disappointed yesterday. Chef has changed the burger and, in our opinion, not for the better. Gone is the delicious tomato jam and melted cheddar. Replaced by a thick slice of somewhat grilled onion and smoked gouda, and a chintzy squirt of ?chili aioli? sauce. Price increased $2 too. We had Mimosas and I ordered the stuffed french toast. It was good but I'm bummed that I didn't have any photos. On a separate occasion, I stopped by for a drink. My wine was good that i decided to buy a bottle to take home. Join the wine club. Lastly, I had the creme brulee. I devoured it. It was light and not dense or too sweet. Perfect in my book.
