Five star massage, four star location. The building situation is a little weird, but they really have done their best to give it a good vibe and atmosphere with low lighting and oil diffusers. You have to walk through lots of different hallways to get from the lobby, to the relaxation room, to your massage. There are no locker rooms or robes to change into so you are in the relaxation room in your street clothes. You change in the massage room. I had a two hour La La Massage with Kayla. She did a wonderful job! She asked questions and adjusted the massage based on my needs. She gave the best, most gentle foot and hand massages! She also really did some good work on my terrible back tension. It was a great massage, and That's the Rub has a good thing going-- but a space better suited to their needs, equipped with changing rooms and robes, would greatly enhance the experience. read more

Went in on a last minute need for a massage. They were booked in the initial day requested so I scheduled for a deep tissue massage the following day. When I arrived I was assigned to Kayla. I've had my favorite therapist, but they've all been consistent. The greeters are always friendly, the owner is always pleasant, and everyone is professional. It's the perfect downtown location and (most of all) it's "quiet"! I highly recommend the LaLa massage if you're looking to simply relax. I fall to sleep every time! I had a wonderful experience with That's the Rub! My massage therapist, Gwen, was excellent and very professional. I typically cannot find massage therapists who are willing (able?) to use as much pressure as I would like, and she did a great deep-tissue massage. The only thing I would caution against for anyone looking at That's the Rub as a possible massage provider is that is is more home-like than spa-like. That isn't inherently bad, but if you're looking for a typical spa-like place (think open spaces & waterfalls) this wouldn't fit the bill. However, it is very welcoming and has beautiful art on the walls. As someone whose style isn't very "funky", my experience made me feel like I was in a cool, free spirited friend's house or something. read more

Have you ever had a massage and at the end thought to yourself, wow I don't feel any different or this person paid no attention to what I said hurt? My massage at That's the Rub was not one of those times. This was one of the best overall massage experiences I've had anywhere. There is a relaxation room that you sit in before and after your message, where they give you tea when you are done. The message was great, Gwen really worked on my problem areas and even told me stretches to do at the end. Best massage therapy I've found anywhere. The office is warm and inviting and the staff are trained professionals. The therapists I've had appointments with have deep experience and really know what they are doing. They also have a focus on caring for the customer to help them improve their well being. I did not feel pressured to make follow up appointments and they have me great advice on taking better care of myself. Regular appointments have helped my wife and I quickly recover from a car accident that left our car totaled. I recommend making an appointment in advance. You will not be disappointed! read more

I've been to several massage therapists in town, and while I generally wasn't disappointed, I hadn't found the right fit for me. I have old back injuries that healed poorly and left my muscles riddled with knots. I found That's the Rub and am so grateful! Every employee I've interacted with has been excellent: the customer service is superb, but my massage therapist, Gabrielle, is spectacular. She is very intuitive and knowledgeable, she is persistent and efficient, and she has oodles of enthusiasm. In three visits, Gabrielle has vastly surpassed the progress previously gained by past therapists (over years). I'm sincerely blown away and cannot recommend her highly enough! As an aside: this is not the cheapest massage you can receive in Bloomington. However, if I had just started here, I would've saved so so so much money (and time!) because the treatment efficiency is so outstanding. I haven't felt this much relief in over ten years. If it's just relaxation you're looking for, and not so much therapy, this is still the only place I'd recommend. The quality couldn't be higher, so do yourself a solid and make an appointment! read more

I hate to give one star when my therapist was a very nice person, but I was extremely clear about a medical condition requiring very light touch, and she leaned into me so hard during the massage that I am in pain 4 days later. I was clear I did not want and could not have an intense massage and I specified that I needed light pressure, I only wanted a nice experience. When she asked me my pain level from 1 - 10 BEFORE the massage, I said zero. Now, since her massage, it's constant. I think, too, the staff should have given me a more experienced massage therapist for my needs. It is very, very difficult for some of us to process what's going wrong at the time of the massage and it doesn't hurt til later, especially when it's something like having weight put on you. It can be hard to know how to speak up at the time and express what's going wrong and you need to trust the provider. I am sorry to give a poor review because this place is very sweet in many ways, and probably great for most. but anyone with a special need should proceed with caution. read more

I recommend a 2 hour massage for anyone who has ever had one or is wanting to get one, it will be the best 2 hours of your life! The staff is very knowledgeable, friendly, caring, and want to make your visit the best it can be for what service you are requesting, I visited a few weeks ago, and had planned a 30min but gave it to my partner who after his 30min wanted to go longer, so this week I did 2 hours and it was wonderful! what a way to spend a first massage, a full body 2 hour relaxing massage!! Kara did a wonderful job, my partner has Parker and he raves about how good he feels afterwards, constantly telling me he could go for a longer session.. maybe a 3 hour spa day will be in both of our futures soon... read more

I have been to That's The Rub about four times in the past year. Three with Kay and one with Kayla. Both ladies are absolutely amazing and I walk out calm and relaxed after each massage. Both ladies were attentive to my needs and wants, and they both offered wonderful suggestions for the areas I wasn't even aware needed work. The atmosphere is different than most massage centers I've been before, but it is extremely warm and welcoming. And it doesn't hurt they have electric blankets on their tables - as if they could make you any more relaxed! Definitely the best in the area and by far, my favorite spot to treat myself! read more

I have been to Thats the Rub several times, each time seeing a different massage therapist and i have been very happy with all my experiences. I recently saw Krystal for "the rub" massage and honestly i think it was the best massage of my life. I told Krystal that i had been experiencing neck pain and I wanted her mostly to work on my neck, back and shoulders. She did a fantastic job, taking lots of time to work the muscles in my neck and i left feeling a thousand times better (I could move my head from side to side without feeling stiffness or pain). If you are dealing with any kind of muscle pain I seriously recommend visiting That's the rub. read more

They were able to accommodate all three of us at the same time which is something I had a problem with when trying to schedule in Indy. The massage therapists were so friendly and made us at ease as some of us were first timers. The massage therapists were attentive to our individual needs and we all felt so relaxed after our services. We also loved the relaxation room to extend our relaxing experience. Our therapists followed up with each of us after our massages to see if we had any follow up questions or concerns. They were all so personable. I came to That's the Rub after a really stress-filled year for some much needed relaxation. I booked a La La massage with Kayla and got exactly what I needed. She did a great job of listening to what I said I needed. I walked away feeling incredibly less tense and with a clarity I hadn't felt in a while! I go frequently for deep tissue sessions and I've noticed immense positive results from my time there. Jess Kerns is hands down the best massage therapist I've found in Bloomington--and I've tried several places. She's talented, attentive, hilarious, sweet--you might even call her charismatic! When I went for a massage, it was just OK. It was actually pretty disappointing for the amount of money I spent. I assumed it would be a full body massage for one hour; it was not; and I was not aware of that. The room was kind of cold, and the masseuse did not really listen to what I really wanted. For example, I said my feet were very sore, and we only spent around 5 minutes on the feet. She also used a technique I did not enjoy, and used the same technique even after I communicated that with her. Will not return. read more

I'm always satisfied with my experience at That's the Rub. The room they put you in before and after your massage is very pleasant, dimly lit and relaxing. They always ask whether you prefer a particular tea or water after your massage. I've had massages from both Gabrielle and Tonya. Both are great. The therapists here really try to tailor your experience to what you need/want. I've dealt with knee and back problems over the past year and I tried physical therapy twice, as well a back doctor. None of it helped. I started getting regular massages and with the guidance from my therapist on what I should be stretching along with her own excellent work, I've pretty much recovered. read more
