What a great business Kenny runs. Rare to find a business like this these days. I met him on one of his scheduled appearances at Whole Foods and he sharpened 3 of my knives within 15 minutes. He took the time to show me what he was going to do and explained the process each way. I forgot to bring him my lawn mower blade, though, that will have to wait for next time. The knives turned out great, they're back to how sharp they should be. It had been about 4 years since they had been last sharpened and badly need it. When your knife doesn't even want to cut a rubber grommet, it needs some work. He was getting busy so I didn't have an opportunity to get his views on kitchen knives. My wife and I are foodies and amateur cooks with a good sized Henckels knife collection, so I called and spoke to Kenny before I brought my knives to him. He explained in detail about the process and how different knives require a different treatment. He also explained how using my Chefs Choice 3-stage electric sharpener had regrouped the cutting angle and he would have to work at restoring the knives to original spec. And his prices were great. He charges $5 for up to a 5" blade, and only $6 for anything 6" or more in length. That's a lot less expensive than the $1/inch I have paid for sharpening in the past. He said he moves his locations, but sets up in front of the Whole Foods in Winter Park once a month, so I decided to give him a try. I dropped off a dozen items, 11 knives and a pair of Henckels kitchen scissors that I have had forever that were in desperate need of sharpening (I even stopped using them because they were so dull). Rather than wait for them (which would take some time) he offered to call me when they were done. A few hours later I received the call and picked up my knives. He had to regrind and reshape one of the tips, and made sure they were all in good shape. He then showed me how well they all cut by making a series of slices in pieces of paper, and even had me cut a paper towel with my scissors. I was pleased, but the real proof would be in my kitchen. That evening I did some slicing and dicing using four of the knives, and I'm happy to report that it was like having brand new knives again. Give Kenny a try. I cannot recommend this service highly enough. On a whim, I decided to get my Henckles Twin Pro S knives sharpened after several years of careful but heavy use. I called Kenny late morning on a Tuesday and to my surprise and delight he was available early that afternoon. He asked if I would like to stay and wait while he sharpened them and boy I'm glad I did. Kenny took the time to explain what he was doing, and show me how I may be causing my knives to dull prematurely. He also showed me some better knife techniques than I was currently using. Because he enjoys cooking, he brings a lot of that practical experience to his craft. He was also able to make a repair on a damaged point of a paring knife, it had been slightly broken. The repair was virtually unnoticeable and the knife looked like it had never been damaged. When he finished, the knives were perfect, sharper than they had been when I first bought them. I was so impressed with his work, and his knowledge, that I bought a new pair of kitchen shears that he was selling. They were far superior to the ones I had in my set and I couldn't be happier with them. And they were very very reasonably priced. I have in the past looked at other knife sharpener's, but I'm really glad I found this service. Kenny was a pleasure to talk to and extremely knowledgeable and skilled at his craft. We recently needed "a lot" of sharpening done ranging from yard tools to kitchen knives. I do a lot of cooking and have invested in good knives so I am not excited to try someone new. I went to Kenny's site and sent an email asking if he would be at the stated location over the weekend. I got a call back, as requested, and yes indeed he would be there and looked forward to meeting me. Hmm...customer service and kindness? This will be interesting. We went at 1:30pm to drop off "a lot" of items and offered to pick them up another day since we were late. Kenny was so gracious and said he would stay until the jobs were all done and would call us to pick them up when they were ready. When picking up, he showed us what he could do with some of my older yard tools and really got to know my friend and I. She was given a discount for being with the police department, as was I for being married to a vet. Now, how did the sharpening go? Fantastic! The knives were sharped perfectly and the yard tools were put to work the next day. Oh how much easier a job is with the right sharpened tools. I must also add that my friend stated "It was nice to go to someone who didn't look down on you for having average knives, tools or scissors." I have a modest collection of good kitchen knives, and have always been hesitant to dive in on the whole whetstone self-sharpening thing. A quick Google search brought me to That Sharpening Guy, Kenny. At first I decided to take my knives to him in Sanford, but then saw that he sets up shop weekly at the Good Neighbor Farmer's Market in Winter Garden/Oviedo. Talk about the perfect combination! Arrived, found Kenny (in the barn), dropped off the knives and then had a spirited conversation about cooking and recipes and all things culinary. Left the knives with Kenny and then wandered around the charming farm for about an hour. Petted some sweet animals in the petting farm area, picked up some fresh produce, and enjoyed the music of the live band. An hour later, I had perfect sharp knives and bags full of goodies.
