The price was pretty decent... you can literally count the places that give you that "good old feeling" of service and tradition. There's a heartwarming story. His grandfather started the business like 70 years ago then he died. His father took over and retired, then he (the son, not sure if his name was Dan too) was continuing over the tradition. It is businesses like these that are heartbreaking to see them go. I can't believe they closed down. WHY? Nobody seems to know. The news are quite disappointing, much worse not knowing 'the why.' After 2 previous excellent experiences in sharpening my survival gear and steak knives, I decided…read moreto entrust them with my very expensive SHUN Japanese steel (VG-MAX, Damascus clad, Tsuchimee (hammered) blades w/ Pakkawood D-shaped handles) Kitchen knives. I dropped them off at the shop in the morning and they were ready for pickup in a half hour. Cost to sharpen is $6 each, regardless of blade length (so just $24 total). I took them home, washed them up in soapy water and tried them out. The blades pass cleanly through food items with little effort and no loss of juice. Be sure to use a solid wood (Maple, Beech, Teak or Walnut) cutting board, not bamboo, ceramic or glass! This was my first time having these blades professionally sharpened. Typically, I did it myself at home on a whetstone. I bought these knives back in 2015, and I thought that a professional job was long overdue (being correctly sharpened to a 16-degree angle).
