As a grandmother to three grandchildren who attended Thales Academy Franklin from 2022 until their withdrawal in 2025, I must express profound disappointment with the school's recent direction. It once excelled in advancing children far beyond expectations with remarkable academic mastery and growth under dedicated educators. These outcomes aligned beautifully with the school's commitment to character, critical thinking, and virtuous leadership as outlined in its founding philosophy.
Regrettably, leadership transitions with the head of school at the Franklin campus introduced instability and disconnection. Valued teachers departed abruptly, with communications lacking transparency and opportunities for dialogue. The head of school was absent from community events--all musical performances, family gatherings--while remaining office-bound during audible authoritative interactions. Children expressed apprehension due to perceived raised voices in limited encounters.
Most concerning was a school book fair incident during school hours where third-grade students, including my granddaughter, accessed material containing explicit discussions of puberty, illicit drug use, with unscientific topics inconsistent with the traditional values we sought. Despite our prompt notification and evidence provided, broader parental awareness was not ensured, future events curtailed, and involvement diminished--necessitating ongoing counseling support for our granddaughter. The administration consistently showed limited connection with families, failing to recall individual children's names despite their documented advancement.
A detailed letter to the founder on May 7, 2025, urging investigation and restoration of trust received only a response from his assistant, which offered no apology for our granddaughter's exposure, deflected responsibility to the book fair representative despite the oversight occurring on school premises and during school hours, and dismissed our concerns about administration. Meanwhile, the campus has shrunk dramatically since prior leadership--enrollment dropping by over half--reflecting significant family departures and eroded trust. While the mission and a few teachers remain commendable, current practices have undermined community engagement, accountability, and core principles of servant leadership.
Unfortunately, we can no longer recommend Thales Academy Franklin. read more
