My name is Stuart Adamson and I'm an NCS alum class of 2010…read more First of all, the biggest contributing factor towards my distaste for NCS stems from the segregation of "Those with learning disabilities " and "Those without". Depending on who you were outcomes for the same scenario would be completely different. For example, if you had a learning disability and you were late to class because you were talking to a teacher from your previous class about something your outcome would've been that you would've gotten some form of punishment because, in my opinion, you were expected to know not to be late even though you had a legitimate reason for being late. On the other hand, if it was the same scenario for a student that didn't have a learning disability the outcome would've been you had a legitimate reason and just a slap on the wrist. Secondly, I can still remember freshman year and being so excited to be in the art class elective and for a split second feeling like one of the normal students instead of feeling like a lab rat in the special education herd. That was until some teacher, I can't remember who, came and got me and was like "You're supposed to be in this class!" like a prisoner who escaped and got caught. In my mind I was like "Well they didn't f***ing tell me that!". In my opinion the life skills class should be strictly for low functioning students not for students who are slow learners.Although I wasn't the least bit happy about being in the class I had to continue to attend the class even though I'm pretty sure that "Non verbal learning disorder" doesn't mean I'm not smart enough to do daily tasks. Lastly, if there's one teacher you need to avoid at all costs it's Ms. Bartlett. Senior year you're already under a great deal of stress to make sure you graduate. My senior year was her first year of teaching. I firmly believe that she took a job at her old high school as a way to get in easy. Now by this time we all had senioritis, which is when you're so close to graduation you just want to get that dang diploma and get the hell out of dodge. The way I remember it was that we could partner up to study for this exam - so we did. The next day going about our day one of the announcements on the monitors around the high school said for these students, me included, to go to the principals office. Oh the bucket of gravel I felt in my stomach. I had never been in a situation like that before so I was really nervous. 3 or 4 of us stood in front of 3 teachers to plead our case but I don't think they would've cared to take our side of the story. Punishment was early morning detention for several days. On top of that they gave us a zero for the grade on that exam. Then it was bumped up to a 75, which is still an F, but it was too little too late.

I noticed at a Girl Scout meeting my daughter and another student from Thales couldn't read nearly as well as their peers. I decided to have my daughter assessed independently, and we were shocked to learn she was testing below a kindergarten level (she was in 1st grade) in both reading and math. The lack of academic progress made sense once I actually saw how the classrooms are run. I substitute taught at the school several times and quickly realized that the "teachers" are not licensed educators. They simply stand there and read verbatim what a book tells them to say. They are untrained employees. They are literally just reading instructions out loud, not actually teaching the students. I immediately withdrew my kids. My daughter started second grade in the Williamson County public school system and was far behind. It took over two years of RTI, summer school, and private tutors just to get her caught up to her peers.

The teaching method is very effective. All my children read at a high level with fantastic fluency. My children have a strong math foundation and an impressive breathe of historical knowledge. I know there is lot of negative comments about this school and the administration online, but it is unwarranted. There are many lovely families at Thales, the tuition is very affordable, the year round schedule is the absolute best, especially if you have wiggly boys (we have five) Homework is minimal. I suggest looking at the school and speaking to the personnel, it will speak for itself.

I am confident that this is because of the combination of caring and attentive teachers and a quality Montessori approach to education. As a result of what they've learned at Montessori, both of our children are very self-sufficient (pouring their own milk and juices, putting on their own coats, helping to cut and peel fruits and vegetables, and so much more). Since she began attending the toddler program, our youngest (who had separation difficulties at other schools) has become much more independent and self-confident. She is even excited to go to school and talks about her friends and teachers when at home! In her three years at Montessori, we have seen our oldest daughter grow in ways I cannot even describe--she is growing into a strong, compassionate young girl, with a solid foundation in academics and most importantly a love and passion for learning. This evening, as we were reading bedtime stories, she told me that her friend asked her how she was getting so smart and that she answered, "Because I like to read a lot!" (she has been reading independently since she was 4 years old thanks to her fantastic teacher and Montessori methods!)

I'm a student here, and so many things are wrong with this school. For example, the Muslims are put above everyone else at the school, the "pepperoni" isn't even real pepperoni and tastes bland. All of the kids are always screaming, getting mad at each other, fighting, and bullying. It's horrible for me in the classroom. oh and also last year, we had to read a book last year that made me feel uncomfortable. It may be the education board for that, but regardless it still has. The same happened for this year. Also, they once forced us to sit outside in the sweltering heat for a soccer game some of us didn't even care about, which I am pretty sure against the law. Talking about against the law, they have cameras in the bathroom! That's a violation of privacy! This school is a very bad place to send a person of this type to as well: White (this is real). Christian (this is also real). Autistic/Neurodivergent Easily bullied I hope I'll never see this school again!

Student's Perspective - Culture: After being an educator for over 10 years, I have yet to meet a student who genuinely loves school. Many students love different aspects of school, but for a student to choose school over any other activity, the school would have to be extremely amazing or extremely laissez-faire. There is no doubt in my mind that if you send your child to this school, they will be successful if they follow the regimen to the letter. However, school for students can start as early as 7:00 am, if parents drop off their child early but no later than 7:40. As soon as they get into their advisory class (1st PD), the early arrival kids will begin working on a journal topic of sorts while they wait for the rest of the class to arrive. 3 days out of the week, advisory is used to have meetings around school culture with students, turning every student into a law abiding citizen, for the most part, and drastically reducing anxiety for everyone of them. Students rarely experience bullying, inequality, or unfairness from anybody at this school. They are heavily monitored and the expectation is for them to be quiet in the classroom, the hallways, and in other general settings while meetings are taking place. Where as for other public schools this might be just an expectation, the teachers and leadership team do a large amount of training to ensure that the expectation is enforced. If you've never been at this school while in session, it's impressive alone just seeing everyone move from class to class. One of the few things that students do get anxiety about, though, is the way the restroom is handled for them. They are only allowed to go during the first ten minutes of every class period. If they miss that time block to ask for permission, they aren't allowed to go. There is a system in place in case of emergencies, but too often I've requested someone to come relieve one of my students to go to the restroom after the reserved block and I don't get a response, so the child sits there holding it in. It has gotten better, but it's disheartening to see. The idea behind this is, child safety, protection of school property, and equity of a learning experience for all. Let me know what other aspects of this school you are interested in hearing about. I will try to remain as impartial as I possibly can.

The next thing was the actual school in old Ingram building seems the temp is kinda warmer in the building! Next it's no gym or cafeteria like area no free program for lunch. And if they have a shuttle you have to pay for that as well! The line to pick up will have you waiting over a hour for pick up! It's really been all summer and better actions and planning should have been put in place since they know a lot of thing are not in place to make things easier! The school should consider single parents time and money with having to prepare children for school plus handle a day work and also have to make sure the children are doing there best! Also the outside workers for the parking should be better at communicating and doing a better job to ensure drop off and pick up are done in a respectful and timely manner!
