Solid but not outstanding Thai food in Idaho. I was super impressed by the quick service- we walked in, ordered, and our food was ready about 10 minutes later (and super hot/fresh!) They clearly do a lot of takeout orders and are efficient, but we ate in. The fresh spring rolls had 2 delicious sauces- highly recommended. They used chicken instead of shrimp, but that didn't deter me. The chicken satay was well-seasoned. Drunken noodles were spicy at a 2/5 spice level, but were missing depth of flavor. My husband loved the peanut curry special of the day, and the two-compartment takeout container was helpful in combining the curry and rice. We went for a quick lunch date today and got to try a few things on their lunch menu. Their lunch menu ranges from $8-$11 and you can get an appetizer, entree, and drink for $11. If there was half a star to choose from, I would pick that instead. My friend and I decided to try a new Thai restaurant and looked online and found Thai Zap in Pocatello ID. The reviews and photos looked great so we set out to find the restaurant . It was definitely a hole in the wall, if you didn't have it on maps you most certainly miss the place driving by because you couldn't really see it from the road or the side. We walked in and there was a lady at the front who asked us if we were staying? Or if it was to go? We replied that we were staying and she handed us menus and we proceeded to seat ourselves. Upon seating we looked over the menus and looked around. The place looked nice and clean and the smell from the kitchen was great as well. We looked over the menus decided on what we wanted but realized that we have been waiting for at least 15 minutes and not one person has come to our table for drinks or anything? The lady at the front was on the phone and helping customers with to go orders and didn't seem to care at all about us being there! Oh and we were the only ones in there? At one point the cook came out to greet customers but he also didn't seem to care about us there at the table waiting? So I asked my friend if we should go and so we did. We didn't get a greeting not a response from anyone here other than the only reaction we experienced is if we were staying or going! I know we all expect the food to exceed the expectation from the service but if you don't get a 5 star rating service? I don't care how good your food is! I will never come to your restaurant being treated as such and expect us to stick around. If you like spicy food, Thai Zap has the best heat level and can give you true heat when you ask for a 5! Their menu even offers gluten free alternatives. Not your typical Thai food place, a cross between a sit down restaurant and fast food. One woman was handling everything front of house, phones, take out orders and the dining room. Order and pay at the register, she brought the food to my table. And all dishes are served in disposable containers with plastic utensils. That said the service was attentive, efficient and friendly. This is honestly my favorite place in town. My boyfriend and I go here every week for their curry and house fried rice (and maybe some crab rangoons). I was amazed at how good of food can come out of a food truck in pocatello idaho but its sooooo good! Friendly staff and lots to choose from on the menu. The food was good, but not worth 5 stars in my opinion. I ordered the beef and broccoli and it was very unseasoned and the beef a tad on the chewy side. The vegetables were cooked perfectly and had a nice crunch to them. My overall disappointment was the lack of seasoning and flavor. A big opportunity is to incorporate more herbs traditional to Thai cooking in this dish such as basil and cilantro. I also had two egg rolls with the beef and broccoli and I want to say they are frozen and not made fresh, could be wrong but I've had and made plenty of fresh egg rolls myself and these didnt compare.
