Still, given the recent reviews in the last year, I wanted to again point to the "chinese" menu versus the "american chinese menu". American chinese, nationwide, is fairly generic. What makes this restaurant special is their "authentic chinese" dishes. Flavorful, unique (to Americans), and really good. We went to mandarin house for dinner tonight I was looking forward to egg foo young and pan fried pot stickers. But neither items were available; very disappointed. Instead I ordered a combo meal. The fried shrimp had so much thick breading it was like a corn dog, the fried rice was cold and crunchy, the sweet sour chicken was also cold and again covered in thick breading. Wow. The beef broccoli was delicious. The serving size was acceptable based on the price. The beef was tender, the sauce was delicious and the vegetables tasted fresh. I also ordered an egg roll and wow the size of that egg roll looks like a burrito. This place knows how to feed you. Everything was going great until we were seated. Our waitress was kind of snobby. She never asked us what we wanted to drink and when she brought our food over to us I noticed she had her long acrylic nails in my lo mein. I did not say anything to her because she is very intimidating. I only ate my side of fried rice. The rice was good, I just wish I would have been able to eat my lo mein. When the waitress served my wife her food, she kind of spilled her rice onto the table and didn't apologize or say anything about it. I did not care for the service at all. My food was cold n my husband didn't get what he ordered sent his back still wasn't what he ordered I didn't want to send mine back as well do to already sending his back. The food was all pretty tasty, but what I was disappointed by the most was how much of it was fry battered. I ordered a combination dinner special with fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, chow mein, and fried shrimp. I wasn't expecting my sweet and sour chicken to be fried. The children inside was pretty dry too. I also thought that the chow mein would be noodles but it was just some mixed veggies with fried noodles. The food was horrendous. Touted as authentic Chinese cuisine but when I sent it to my nationally born friends who have lived in China their entire life, they had never seen food like this. Bland and overpriced. We ordered egg rolls, kung pow chicken and beef and broccoli. For $65 we received egg rolls with nothing but rice in a fried egg wrap. The chicken was diced, with celery, onions and chile peppers. No flavor, just heat. The broccoli and beef was okay, the broccoli was good, the beef was mushy. My search for a fantastic authentic Chinese restaurant has been long and arduous. BUT...Mandarin House is wonderful. It's about an hour away, but whenever I need a fix on good Chinese food they are a Go To! Some of their meals are traditional American Chinese. But if you ask the server you can get the real stuff and it's cooked with good Chinese spices, well flavored, spicy if you want and just YUMMY! It's so hard to choose when you know the meal will be spectacular, so we ordered more than we needed because left overs are so good. It give the sauces time to meld and the flavor is so good. We ordered twice cooked spicy pork, pepper onion beef, pork stomach (cold). All three were very well prepared, spicy without burning the mouth, and flavorful. We will return! read more

My daughter went and was charged a surcharge because we ordered over $100 in food. Most businesses give a discount for bulk purchase. Now we make it a point not to order over $100. I do love Mandarin House. Admire Kevin the owner, I think he is truly hardworking man and he deserves all the success and praise that comes with it. We had been going to this place for over a decade now I think. The food is still delicious ( I still liked mine even though some girls in our party complained egg fu yang tasted differently) and it looked last time like they also put a great deal of effort into decorating the place. Service was great. Shelby informed us about a delay and I do not mind waiting for the well prepared meal. That is if I do so in a restaurant. I liked the ambiance and a red dragon at the very entrance. Covid hit a lot of industries pretty hard and I understand inflation and other adjustments. What raised my eyebrows was one of the ladies at the reception who did not look Chinese I wish she wore a badge. She had a nose ring and a black hair she wore raised up high, she wore some reddish T-shirt I think when our party came in there were just 4 of us she suggested we wait to be sited not inside the restaurant, but in our vehicle which was very rude and uncalled for. Customer service ghetto style. At first you tell us there will be 35 minute wait then you try to tell us to go back inside the vehicle. Not acceptable. Later that night I noticed larger groups of local cowboys gathered in waiting area and yet somehow they were not the sort of any inconvenience. Their chow mein is chop suey not chow mein. Chow mein has pan fried noodles literally everywhere else, but here you'll get a lecture about how this is "real" chow mein. Yeah OK everywhere else is wrong but you, sure buddy. They're also quite rude and act like they don't need your business. I'm sure their little manager will respond with a witty retort. Don't go here, go to the New Hong Kong a few miles away. It has the Same type of food, but much better quality and taste. I only go to the mandarin house when I have to because I have noticed the quality has been slipping for years. I went in today to pick up take out because the New Hong Kong was taking a summer break and I saw the prices had gone up. That's fine, it's happening everywhere, but I was disappointed to learn the food has only gotten worse. Also I noticed a sign that said that they may raise the amount of any take out order by 10% due to rising costs of Chinese food takeout boxes or something like that. I went there twice Ambiance- what drew me in, very charming, bit dated but the Decore was Chinese. Service-you walk in they seat you, timing and help fulness of staff is lacking. There are almost pushy, like Hurry up and order and eat and leave attitude. Then you just sit there for ever seems waiting for your food. Food- Well that's where it went down hill for me, looked good on plate, but taste was another thing, everything had a cornstarch thicken taste that was strip fry. Chowmein when it started to cool down looked like it was turning into jello, from all the cornstarch. I asked them the second time I ate there not to put the thicken stuff in my chowmein. They told me that was how it's made cannot remove it. Tasted like bland gravy to my mouth, not good. The fried shrimp don't bother, has more breading then shrimp. It's broken or baby shrimp not sure, but ate more bread filling then shrimp .to me it seems like they add alot of fillers to cut down on food cost, which is funny because they are pricy to begin with my feelings. Once ur food comes so does your bill, your waitress forgets you ,have to find them to get a drink refill, and then they are pulling your plates fast like they want you to hurry up. Feel locals don't know what good Chinese food is, and think it's how it's suppose to be. Won't go back not worth the cost, pandas express is better and I don't like them. In my opinion, Absolutely unprofessional. Absolutely rude. My cousin went to this place, and with her allergies she treated this experience no differently than she does any other restaurant. She did her due diligence and listed off her allergies, like she always does. The person was rude, told her it wasn't her job to help order food safely. So when my cousin ordered a dish that contained nuts, one of her allergies she'd spoken before ordering mind you, instead of being told it had nuts, as the menu also does not disclose this information, how else is she to know? They let her order the dish, with no warnings of its allergen. She wrote a Facebook review, and the manager's friend, went in and immediately bullying her, multiple people followed to bullying her. She has mental disabilities so her ability to articulate her review clearly is hard enough for her. Instead of inquiring what she meant, that manager sent his friends after her. On her review, on her personal page, and then went as far as posting it to his own page where they continued to laugh and mock her. I do have the screenshots of the manager praising one of the bullies. In my opinion, anyone with allergies should take extra care ordering from this restaurant, don't expect them to disclose allergens in your dish. And if you seek hospitality and a good energetic experience, I advise going to one of our many great restaurants that are more than happy to be kind, and not harass or send friends to harass their customers. read more

If I could give this a minus value I would. Per tripadvisor reviews while traveling we got take out. Not only they put boiled shrimp on white ride calling it shrimp fried rice, their lo mein was over salted angel hair pasta with soggy no sauce over salted veggies. People who eat here and rated it 4/5 must not have a very educated palate! If I lived there I would demand my money back! As if that is not bad enough I got sick as soon as I ate it! Do they wash their hands, store their food properly, know how to clean? Maybe I should contact the state's food inspectors to pay them a surprise visit? read more

Was in chubbuck for the night, the locals recommend here for Asian food. the lemon chicken was great, fresh breaded chicken and the lemon sauce wasn't to sweet, pot stickers were good nothing special. Overall pretty good. If I was ever in town and wanted Asian food again I would go. read more

Pocatello people you have no Idea the hidden gem you have in the mandarin house. I travel extensively for work and have Chinese food in every city I go to. Mandarin house is the best, chowmein, homemade sweet and sour, incredible egg rolls even something as simple as pork and seeds. If I lived in Pocatello I would eat here everyday . Ehh... okay well honestly this is probably the best Chinese food in Pocatello... however I do not particularly love it. We came at around 8 at night, and they put it in a booth, and then immediately placed another group at the booth behind us even though there were about 19 other booths open. I wouldn't have minded besides that the group behind us was low-key jabbing out backs and moving so much I felt like I was on a bad airplane ride. Putting that slight annoyance aside, the food was decent. We got some kind of friend bread with honey butter, which I mean can fried bread with honey butter be bad? Not possible. We also started with friend pork and seeds that were really good! The mustard wasn't too spicy, but overall just a good flavor. I really enjoyed that. We got a few entrees, broccoli and beef, and the mandarin chicken. Both were decently good, but again not the best chinese food I have ever had. The sweet and sour sauce that came with was super good, honestly probably the best part of it. The fried rice was pretty good as well. I guess for the price of the food I was expecting it to be quite a bit better. But maybe I have high standards. Either way, if you are craving Chinese in Pocatello, this is probably you best bet. OH one thing.. I wasn't super impressed with the kids working. I heard one worker us the F word multiple times, which I personally don't like. I heard this was the best in town. Well, very disappointed they only have 1 tofu dish and although the sauce was good, the tofu was not, mushy and huge chunks had to end up throwing it away and making my own crispy tofu. They are charging an extra fee due to material shortages, high cost of to go packaging and overhead whatever that means. And the price of the dishes was higher then the menu prices. Needless to say two dishes for take out was $34! Egads! Doubtful I will go back. read more
