It wasn't expected and it did definitely go a long way in making me feel better about the customer service. Chef Danny and his wife Katie Clark created such a fantastic event that not only fulfilled the needs of every guest, but knocked it into the stratosphere. Firstly the food. The menu was so thoughtfully put together. Fresh, innovative dishes for every palate that were just so delicious and looked absolutely beautiful. Every guest was so excited about the food, it was a repeated topic of conversation throughout the event. My personal favorite was the blueberry cobbler crumble with chantilly of which I ate 5, but we'll move quickly past that...sorry not sorry. Honestly, I wish I'd had leftovers for breakfast this morning. The beautiful sustainable bamboo plates and "silverware" were gorgeous and a perfect compliment too and much appreciated by Ainsley. Next, the bar curated and tended by the hostess-with-the-mostest Katie, co-owner of Drifters with husband Chef Danny. Katie put together an array of delicious drink options around certain specifics we'd requested and ensured everyone had their needs anticipated and met instantly. Beautiful drinks in compostable drinkware and stunning edible decorations. The mocktails for the non-drinkers were perfection. Bravo! The presentation, decoration and attention to the smallest of details made the event just extra special - fresh flowers in Ainsley's school colors at the bar, gorgeous ice baths for the drinks and beautifully displayed fresh flowers surrounding the food itself, which were like works of art. Visually stunning as well as beautiful to eat and drink. Like I said earlier, they knocked it into another galaxy in every aspect. Lastly, but certainly not least, the service. Let me say small is a generous characterization of the seating. But the space is well laid out and there are options. Only three tables you can actually reserve. 10 seats total. Jimmy the waiter came over and showed us the specials and the specialty drinks. We ordered wine and a beer. Then we ordered the 27 dollar lobster sunburn roll. And the wait begins. In fairness they just opened and they were slammed since they have limited reservations. Twenty minutes later the sushi shows up. Fortunately we had ordered our entrees in that time. Entrees came out finally but our drinks were empty and water would have to do. Flavor was pretty good. I had the pasta with clams that had a white sauce. The center was hot but the edges were jaut barely warm. Partner had the grouper catch of the day. The cauliflower was hot but the fish was not. And I think I know why. Two folks working front of house. The owner and the waiter. Focused on the TV not working while food stacked I the pass. The kid was hanging out and kept looking at us, don't need that. Now I heard the owner say a reservation canceled for a five top. In walks a four tip and the child obviously did not know and told the party no table available. Away walks the four top. Table sits empty rest of our time there (45 minutes). Front of house can't be a child. The flavors were very good. And with improved processes they will reach their potential. Protip: make a reservation but not for right at opening. They got slammed and the kitchen took some time to catch up. Edited for brevity. We entered through the door and were immediately seated at a booth. Their menu was rather extensive with lots of choices. We came at lunch and ordered a salmon bento box and a Chicken bento box. The miso soup and salad came out immediately and were very good. We ordered green tea. The boxes came out within about 10 minutes. The staff was very friendly. The restaurant was clean and the food was excellent. Overall, it was a very nice experience and I would highly recommend for anyone wanting a good Japanese meal in the area.

I've been coming here with my fiancée, family, and friends for YEARS, and I honestly can't believe I haven't written a review until now. When you step into Naoki, it feels like walking into a cozy, tucked-away restaurant in Japan. The space is filled with personality--surf photography, muscle cars, Japanese comic books, spirits, and even photos of the streets Naoki grew up on. It's charming, nostalgic, and unlike anything else around. Nine times out of ten, you'll find Naoki right behind the sushi bar with the rest of the team, crafting delicious roll after roll. Now for the important part--the food. It's incredible. Their menu has everything from ramen to curry to takoyaki, but my ultimate weakness here is the sushi. One roll I always recommend is the Yokosuka with shrimp--perfect if you're into American-style rolls. It's massive, loaded with shrimp tempura, and topped with seasoned minced tuna that's unbelievably soft and flavorful. The combination of melt-in-your-mouth tuna with the crunch of the tempura is chef's kiss. But the real star for me is their Nigiri. I recently visited Japan, and I can confidently say Naoki's Nigiri tastes just like some of the sushi I had over there. Nigiri is simple--just fish and rice--which means the quality has to shine... and here, it absolutely does. The fish is always clean, fresh, and beautifully prepared. My go-to Nigiri lineup (in order): Aburi Salmon, Raw Salmon, Hamachi, Tuna, and Eel. I could eat Nigiri from Naoki all day long. Their fried gyoza is also fantastic--we almost always get an order for the table. Perfectly crispy on the outside, soft and juicy on the inside, and served with a bit of cabbage, which I love. And of course, don't forget to grab a cold Sapporo--one of my favorite Japanese beers and a perfect match for everything. The staff here is wonderful. They always make you feel welcomed and at home. A few weeks ago, I actually brought my camera to capture photos of the food and the ambiance for this review, but life got busy and I didn't get around to editing them until now.
