This place serves fare from Thailand, China, and Japan. The sushi roller is Thai, the cook Chinese and no one is Japanese. As I've mentioned repeatedly, sushi is only consumed in Thailand by tourists. These places tend to be hit-and-miss. This is a stand-alone; although the name is prevalent throughout the States, it is not part of a chain. At least not that my editor could find out online. Annie is the server and handles the entire restaurant impressively without missing a beat. She is working 12 full tables. This shows you want tenacity and hard work will get you. I asked Annie for some Pad Se Eaw, Green Curry with Tofu, a J.B. Temaki Roll and one Tuna Roll. As soon as Annie returned with my grub, I snapped a few pics and got to work. Everything looked and smelled fine. However, that is not why people eat. People eat because they are hungry and the food is good. Their offering of Pad Se Eaw was first up on the Big Boy's palate. Pad Se Eaw are stir-fried flat noodles with egg and fresh vegetables served in a Thai sweet soy sauce. If it only tasted half as good as it read, this would be a different review. As it stands, the sauce was fetid and inedible. Or maybe the noodles were bad. Regardless, I couldn't eat it. After the failed Pad Se Eaw, I focused on the Green Curry with Tofu. I love Green Curry. Traditionally served with bell peppers, carrots, bamboo shoots, green peas, zucchini, horapha (Thai Basil), and snow peas simmered in coconut milk and green curry paste. The combination of the Green Curry zing and the Coconut Milk's sweetness is one of my favorite flavor combinations. My protein of choice for this dish was tofu. I knew this was not good in one bite as the tofu was dry. This told me it wasn't stored properly. Now, whoever made this dish knew that when they got the tofu out of the walk-in or from under the prep table and decided to serve it to me anyway. FAIL. The J.B. Temaki roll was staring at me in anticipation, and I figured it had to get better. I wrapped my meat hooks around it and tentatively took a bite. It tasted so fishy that I checked the dumpster on the way to my car to see what smelled worse. This was waaaaaaaay past edible. Strike 3! Usually, I would call it quits at this point, but I did have one more selection to sample--their Tuna Roll. After the fishy J.B. Temaki, I was extraordinarily leery but had a job to do. SMELL YOUR SUSHI ROLLS PEOPLE. These little Thai clip joints hold the near fatal sushi for the rolls. I waived the fish under my proboscis. My nostrils just closed in sympathy with my recollection. I had this meal delivered so I can't comment on the service or atmosphere but the food was great! The crab Rangoon was STUFFED with sweet crab and cream cheese. The were so plump and juicy! The soup was flavorful but a little more watery than I like, and only 1 shrimp was in it when I paid extra for it. But I still enjoyed every drop. The sashimi was super fresh! I went here for lunch time, and while it was pricey for a lunch, it was well worth it! (I also could've eaten less, but I'm a big guy and I need big food lol) I ordered the Indonesian fried rice, which I have been craving since I moved away from California almost 10 years ago. The fried rice also came with a side eggroll, which I would rate better than any of the local Chinese places I've tried. Not too much wrapper, very crispy, and the veggies were the right consistency - not too mushy and not too al dente. Not sure if I'd get a whole serving of it, but it was nice that it was included with lunch! Then I also got a Spicy Tuna Roll, which is my go-to roll whenever I try a new sushi place. While I usually complain that other places put too much rice in their sushi, I would say it's the complete opposite at Sabai lol. The serving of tuna was very generous, and while it wasn't spicy enough personally, it was still very delicious and well put together. And it's easy for me to use wasabi to kick up the spiciness. Sabai definitely surprised me! Ever since moving to the Brevard County area from Atlanta, GA, it was really tough for me to find some solid "staple" restaurants. Hard in the sense of, there are actually no restaurants. You could be reading this and say, "well that's harsh..." and you're right it is, but in my defense, I came from a place with restaurants in every corner and every plaza I turned into. Parking - there's enough for the amount of tables inside Inside - I believe there were only 5 booths inside the restaurant. My guess is, they can serve up to 20 people at a time comfortably, if the 20 came in groups of 4. The restaurant isn't "done up" either, it's just your typical Asian restaurant without decorations or painted walls. The food- don't let the outside of the restaurant and the inside of the restaurant scare you away. The food is pretty solid. I enjoyed my chicken pad Thai. This conveniently located Thai restaurant has been here for several years. I absolutely loved getting the pad Thai and adding scallops to it. Unfortunate for me, I have a food sensitivity and I don't believe that I can get this dish any longer. However, I do enjoy their sushi rolls. Currently they appear to be somewhat shortstaffed, but they are very pleasant people and are a small business who needs your support. We love going to little hole in the wall places. I also really enjoy eating at scary dirty looking places! Sabai is a nice little hole in the wall off the main road. Pretty quite inside. When we walked in, the place smells like a deep fryer. They are small so I understand. The smell of a burning fryer oil let me know right away. This place was going to be really good or really bad. I prefer the bad kind where you get sick later and cant wait to go someplace nice when you feel good again. Well... This place was really good! This has become my go-to for sushi and Hot Basil Fried Rice. Their Thai food portions are huge. Definitely bang for your buck. As for sushi, there just aren't that many great places around Melbourne for sushi anymore. Most Thai sushi places make all the rolls overly sweet. I find this place does too for some of the sauces on the sushi, but it's closer to being more balanced than most around. I've always found the staff friendly. I'm a little concerned about their COVID protocol. Maybe it was just the last time I went, but even though I did see the waitress wiping surfaces after each customer left, she wasn't wearing a mask. Dined in here for lunch. Wait staff is very friend and polite. It was not busy so I was helped right away. The lunch came with hot and sour soup. The soup was very flavorful and some of the best I have had. Consistency of the soup was great; not thick and gooey like some places. Also with the meal a crisp spring roll was served. It was fresh and not too greasy with a light crunch. The Drunken Noodles with Chicken was very flavorful. Next time I will ask for a bit more basil. The Pad Woonsen stood up against some of the best I've had. My husband had sushi (SO FRESH) with Indonesian fried rice. This style rice was new for us, and it was a huge hit! A little heat, but not overwhelming. The portions are amazing (we have leftovers!) and all very reasonably priced. The ambiance is meh, but the food and service more than make up for it.
