This is a little unassuming Thai restaurant in a clean-ish little unassuming all-American town. The interior was basic, clean, and welcoming, and the wait staff was attentive and quick. The restaurant was busy but not overwhelmingly so, indicating the locals probably enjoy this spot. I was in the area and had a craving for pho and this was where Yelp led me. I'm a pho snob so I was a little surprised by how much I enjoyed the pho here. The broth was a little underwhelming at first, but once you add the chili oil and a touch of fish sauce, all of the flavors (the herbal essence and the beefy meatiness) came together beautifully. It hit the spot. I know it is a little short-sighted to rate this place according to just one dish, but it's what I have for you. That being said, my 4-star rating may change when I try other things on the menu the next time I come here. I normally like rating Thai restaurants by their green curry and pad thai -- so that is something to look forward to!! A few things that didn't really matter but they stood out. 1) They didn't bring out a plate of herbs for you to garnish your soup with. Instead, they added all the herbs into the soup before they brought it to the table. I get it. This is a rural area with little diversity so you want to simplify things for your main customer base. I also assume it is a waste thing. I always use up ALL of my herbs but I know most people don't . This way it saves on the waste. 2) The beef was cut chunky instead of sliced thinly like what's normal in a bowl of pho. At first, I thought it was carelessness or an oversight from the chef, but after a bite with the beef, broth, and the noodles all together, I am thinking it may be an intentional choice. With the beef pieces being bigger and chunkier, it preserves that super beefy taste. The one knock I have is my pho noodles we're all broken like I got the noodles from the bottom of the bag. It's not a huge deal. Just bad luck, I guess. Overall, good spot. Try it out! read more

Imagine my surprise to find not only a Thai-style restaurant in Albemarle, but also one that is authentic to its cuisine. This is our second trip and not likely our last. My Pad See Ew was spot on with its sweet and umami flavors coming from the dark soy and oyster sauce. My wife's green Curry with chicken was flavorful with enough spice to remind one that you're not in grandma's southern kitchen. With both entrees, the vegetables were cut expertly, too. Mmmmm! This is truly a diamond in the rough! The Thai food was delicious! Best Tom Kha I have ever had! Pineapple fried rice was really good too! This might be the best place I have been too in a really long time! The service was great. We love this place. Honestly it is a GEM! The people are fantastic who run it and we always have great service and super yummy food. The food is so fresh and flavorful. I would say this is one of the better Asian places in the area. They could compete with some bigger places in Charlotte. Thai basil, sushi. You see it on their menu, it's probably good. We moved into the area about 2 years ago and being from Vietnam, struggled to find a Vietnamese restaurant anywhere! I would need to drive 45 minutes to the closest one. Not being familiar with Thai cuisine, I didn't know what to order and what to expect but we are so happy to have found this place! The first time we visited here was 2 years ago. Everything was wonderful and my picky kids actually ate their food! Because it was 2 years ago, I don't remember all that we ordered but I remembered that I ordered the pho, to see if it was as good as Vietnamese pho. It was honestly soooo good! I think about it constantly. Since the pandemic, we've been staying home but decided to venture out again yesterday. We didn't realize we arrived a few minutes before they were about to close to prepare for dinner but they still took our order to go. Hubby ordered the spicy duck and I ordered their pad Thai with shrimp and an appetizer of steamed pork dumplings with 2 Thai teas. Great portions, great flavors, great prices! We've ordered from here 2 days in a row now! We are OBSESSED with their Thai Tea! I also love that you can eat hibachi and sushi here as well. We'll definitely have to try that next time! What an awesome find. Never expected to find such a cool little spot in Albemarle. They don't have draft beer but they do have the tall Sapporo which is a great second option. Sushi roll was fresh and well made. Daily food and drink specials and when they give you a 0-5 spice rating you can count on it being accurate. From the edamame to the pad see ewe, I was pleasantly surprised. They even have a kids menu. We will definitely be back. read more

This restaurant has good food, no doubt. Aside from a sushi issue, I only had one other time that I ordered something (ginger stir fry I believe) that wasn't the best experience because it had alot of juice in it. At any rate, I will probably never eat there again because of how they made me feel about a sushi issue/complaint. I had ordered sushi (to go) a few times before with no problem. But the last time I ordered it, the nori/seaweed wrapping was very rubbery. I had never experienced that in all my sushi eating (across many years/many states/different restaurants). I spat it out because I didn't know what was going on. I ate it all but just spat out the rubbery wrapping with each bite. A couple of days later I stopped by Thai Spice to talk to someone about it because it bothered me that I paid for this food that I couldn't/didn't really enjoy. The young lady I spoke with seemed hesitant to really address it at first. However, when I did not go away she said she would go talk to someone about it. She came back and said the manager (I believe) or perhaps the cook/sushi preparer said that's the way it's supposed to be....rubbery. Well, if that was true, then the sushi I had ordered from them on previous occasions (which was not rubbery) was not prepared properly. They reluctantly offered me a couple of bucks off of another sushi order (which I accepted) and guess what? The nori was not rubbery; as I expected and hoped it wouldn't be. Maybe the person who responded to my complaint does not know sushi. Regardless, it made me feel like they were just trying to dismiss and invalidate my complaint. That's why I'll not eat there again....Even if it means I have to drive 35 minutes to Sabaidee in Concord for Thai food. read more

Although I'm not from the area, I would have to say that this place is a hidden gem in the town of Albermarle. I had the Philadelphia roll. It was prepared fast, tasted fresh and prices are very reasonable. The restaurant itself is pretty small inside. There is a little bar area, but has that casual lunch-time vibe going on with the table set-up. I didn't notice any booths. Staff was efficient and friendly. Cool decor. The lot is small & has the potential to be congested (unlikely, it's Albemarle). I won't say it's the best sushi that I have ever had (but i only tried one roll) however, it's definitely good enough to satisfy a craving and certainly worthy of a return visit. read more

First time trying Thai food and I read and heard good things about this place. I placed an online order for pickup. Super easy to use the on line ordering system. When I went to pick it up the place had just open for dinner and it was packed. It has a small dining area but every table was full. I recommend the sushi rolls. So fresh and delicious. This Thai restaurant was a bit different in atmosphere, but the red curry was simply delicious. The price was also very good. I am accustomed to Thai restaurants with fancy decor. This place did not have it. But, the food was the star of the show. I went to meet my friend, Dan. We both drove half way to get there. It was a great place to meet because it was quiet enough for conversation. The service was good, but not overly attentive. I liked that they served a cup of soup prior to the entree.
