Pho is phenomenal here !! The broth has such depth and the bones add great umami. I always get the special pho with everything. My favorite is the beef bone they give you with super tender meat. FYI for those not familiar : it's perfectly normal for your pho to come with raw beef in takeout orders. You will have to boil the broth and cook the meat. This is to keep it tender. If they precook it, the texture of eye of round beef will get tougher if not eaten immediately. Same deal for the noodles. If you want the best texture, ask them for raw noodles when you takeout. This way, it won't be already boiled and a bit more soggy during transport. Pro tip : cook your noodles and meat in a pot with just boiling water. This way, you're not using the broth to cook and mess up the taste and texture of the broth. Great service, very fast and efficient. Staff are all proficient in English. This might sound trivial, but they got large thick napkins. It adds to the experience. I hate those quick casual eateries that has the 1 ply napkins that rip as you pull it out of the box. When you know you've made it to their inner circle : They whip out the CAROUSEL OF CHILLIES. A caddy of 3-4 super hot peppers. Habaneros, jalapeños, Thai red chillies, etc. If they automatically bring it out for you, it possibly can mean : You look worldly and travel a lot to develop a taste for heat. Every time I visit Philly, the Viet food scene surprises me for the better! I love com tam--a 7 meat com tam changed my life. Honestly. Huge serving size too. This is the 11th Pho Spot we've tried in South Jersey. I like that the Pho broth was not sweet but it was a little bland. I love that they provided all the authentic condiments but they didn't offer fresh herbs like Thai basil or culantro. We ordered #38 - I think it was $14 We also ordered fresh pork and shrimp summer rolls. They were ok. Again, missing fresh herbs and cucumbers. The peanut dipping sauce was good. Large chunks of boiled beef from the simmer pot also swimming in the hot tub for gnarly handiwork The Pad was a full plate with green and red pepper, onion, tomato, sprouts and tender grilled chicken. We ordered the special pho (Pho Dac Biet), beef stew with noodles (Hu Tieu Hoac Mi Bo Kho) and a broken rice plate (Com Tam Suon Dac Biet). I've eaten here with my family quite a few times when visiting my god brother (he owns the Sun Seng Supermarket next door). I love Vietnamese food and this place is actually pretty good. It's very spacious with private dining rooms in the back (where we always sat). The service is excellent, friendly & attentive staff and food comes out quick. They have an extensive menu with plenty of traditional, authentic Vietnamese dishes, pho/ noodle/ rice options and beverages to choose from as well as some Thai dishes. Portions are generous and prices are reasonable. I like their summer roll, beef chow fun, vermicelli with grilled pork & spring roll and Vietnamese iced coffee. My family always gets the bun bo hue (spicy beef noodle soup), pho dac biet (pho with 5 kinds of beef), grilled pork chop rice and the Vietnamese appetizers (rolls, sugarcane shrimp, wings). The menu is extensive, and I was really excited to see ca kho (braised, caramelized catfish). It's sooooo rare to see this on menus!!!! Next time I come here, I'd love to try the ca kho with canh cua (obvious pairing). Also, I saw the latter dish has good reviews at this restaurant too. The restaurant had a good amount of occupied tables for a Friday night, half Vietnamese and the other half not. Awesome place - stopped by with co-worker for late lunch and we were promptly served two piping hot bowls of delicious pho. Their spring rolls were slightly pedestrian, but nothing that couldn't be fixed with their peanut sauce. :) We left the place steaming from all the Big Pho Energy. Their summer rolls are super stuffed with filling and goes lovely with the peanut sauce. Pho here is your typical average pho. I like their BBH bec it isn't overly spicy (I cannot handle spice). When you order Vermicelli with chicken or pork, they give large pieces of meat! Can't beat the prices here. Typically my meals are about $8-10. Apps left a little to be desired. We ordered shrimp wrapped in sugarcane and what we got looked like tofu slivers. I was imagining actual discernible shrimp but that didn't happen. Just slivers of a tofu like consistency. Please examine my photo and judge for yourself. More beverage choices would be nice. For soda they only have Diet Coke and Fanta. What a weird two things to decide on. Service left much to be desired too but for these places as long as the food is decent and inexpensive my expectations are checked. I'm losing faith in workplace etiquette and decent customer service. So I come to Thai Son for a late lunch today, mainly because it's one of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants. There was nothing wrong with the food. It tasted great as usual.... Every once in a while, I'll come across the wait staff at a restaurant that will take it upon theirselves to decide what you will and will not like within what you ordered. Today, something (ingredients) was missing from my dish. No problem. I called the waiter over, told him what was missing, and off he goes to get it for me with his eyes rolling. He brings it to my table, then walks over to the terminal and starts tapping... I immediately knew that he was up charging me. I continued to enjoy my meal, and waited for the check to come to the table... And there was the up charge, typed in as a totally different side order... I didn't bother to get upset or address it with anyone. I simply subtracted the side order from his tip! I was having too good of a day to let this upset me. I pass this place a lot and always wanted to order takeout from there but this particular time I wanted some place I could sit down and eat with my family. From the outside you think it's a pure takeout place so I had my son go in first to see if you could dine in. He came out and said it looks better inside, so we went in. They sat us at a big table in the back being it was 5 of us. The menu is not your average Thai menu, I only recognized a few dishes so it took me a while to order. I played it safe at first and ordered shrimp fried rice but then changed it to Pho after my son ordered it. I don't know how I missed it on the menu. Long story short everyone really enjoyed what they ordered except my daughter who ordered fried chicken fried rice. The rice was greasy and tasted like the chicken that came with it. I've even seen a wedding banquet being held in their back room and also they have karaoke rooms. Hu Tieu My Tho (My Tho Style Clear Noodle Soup) - this is probably one of my favorite noodle soups I've had here. The broth is clear, homey and tasty. It's rice noodles, pork, shrimp, and cilantro. Che Ba Mau (Rainbow Ice) - this is more of a dessert then an actual beverage. It's extremely sweet & creamy if you mix it up right. Pho - their broth is clear, beefy, and delicious! Their pho tastes homey and delicious. Bo Luc Lac - they serve it on a sizzling platter (VERY different from New York's version) and the beef cubes are perfectly tender, tasty, and packed with flavor. The staff here are always hooking us up with bigger portions, complimentary soup and etc. They are super welcoming and friendly.
