Really disappointed! Ordered 2 orders of chicken pad thai the other night, Chicken was shredded up so small you couldn't even taste it. Entire dish was so dry. And no limes with either order. Thai iced teas were good, but I don't think we'll be going back here again. read more

One of the best Thai places around. Love the quaint atmosphere. The food is amazing & the service is quick & gracious. May look a little sketch but worth stepping inside. You will be glad you did. So many great authentic dishes to try. read more

Delicious! Came in for lunch and although the location isn't the best, the food makes up for it! Lunchtime is crowded and for good reason. Service was excellent and I was able to get in and out in under 45 minutes. I had panang curry beef and it was awesome! I'll be back soon with friends. read more

I call it Thai Thursdays! Yes, I order food from here at least once a week and I have a dedicated day for it. I recently switched it to Friday since my Thai buddy has martial arts training on Thursday nights and sometimes we over-indulge. My favorite is the medium spice Thai fried rice with chicken and extra tomatoes. I literally order this every week. I have tried other dishes but I LOVE rice and this dish is my favorite. I have also had the perfectly crispy and crunchy golden cream cheese and the awesome spring rolls. Let me not forget to mention the Thai Tea!! Its a sweet orange-colored, cool, refreshing drink that is a must-try. read more

Been here once and that was enough. Here's why they lost stars: - Service at lunch was too slow--35 minutes from order to food. Even at lunch rush they were not at full capacity. Speed unacceptable. - Pad Thai could best be described as salty noodles. No basil. No carrots. Skimpy in bean sprouts and onions. Barely could taste the tamarind, the defining ingredient of pad Thai! - Clumsy wait staff. They just seemed uncoordinated with each other and slow to respond to our requests. On the plus side, the place seems local and others said the curries were delicious. You'll have to take that chance yourself! read more

It was my first time to visit here and i had the worst experience. Worst service. Worst thai tea. No one checked on my table when my water was empty. And it was not busy at all. the restaurant was empty. The waitress gave me nasty look when i asked for thai tea. So freaking rude. Food is not even that good. read more

Have to start saying that, even though it was a stretch to get here, this place is soooo worth the drive. We didn't go here purposely for the food as we had plans to go to Williamsburg for the day, but the detour was well thought out and a great discovery! Don't be fooled by the plaza when you first park or the outside appearance - classic tale of not judging a book by its cover. The moment we stepped in, it felt like we were in a completely different place, and were greeted with a grin. As for the food, man oh man, where to begin - we kind of went all in and ordered a bunch of different things to split. Great. Decision. For appetizers, we went with the egg rolls and the chicken and shrimp dumplings. Yummy! I'm not even a big fan of shrimp and would have eaten them all day. Not too overwhelming in taste, but could feel every ingredient in a bite. My least favorite were the entrees - but still great, don't get me wrong! - pad Thai and the eggplant and basil with chicken. When compared to all our other dishes, these were okayish, but will order something different next time. As for dessert, they saved the best for last!! Sticky rice is always a must, and they had it with mango...... Drooling worthy material just thinking back. It was hot, and cold, and warm, and fresh. Confusing, huh? Somethings aren't meant to make sense together but when you try them, they are heavenly! That was the case with their mango and sticky rice. Gosh, I need to go back there and get some more! read more

The worst pad thai I've ever had. I got something that was supposed to be spicy and it was basically bell peppers. Never again. Never.

So, I decided to try this place out with some friends after reading up on some YELP reviews from fellow yelpers and YOU guys are right on the spot! This place is awesome. Great staff, very accommodating, very quiet interiors, nice decor, prices were reasonable and let me tell you about their food. Food = DELICIOUS! This was my 2nd time trying out THAI food and I must say, because of this place, I am IN! This is a great place to dine. Even though it's tucked away and hidden from the main road, is it very elegant and nice. We had a fantastic time. We will be going back there again. read more

Way overated. Service is poor and SUPER SLOW. The food was ok but definitely not what the rest of the reviews say. I probably won't go there again. It sucks because I love Thai food. read more

Pretty good Thai food. I ordered the Drunken Noodles Thai Hot... Not that "hot" but it was good. My wife got Pad Thai, can't go wrong with that. She said it was good. Decent price. 1 Appetizer, 2 entrées, 2 waters. $30ish after tip. Decent Thai food, might go back someday. I'd give it 5 stars but the "Thai Hot" wasn't really hot... read more

The food here was delicious and when they said something's spicy, it's spicy. That was great. I had the panang curry and my boyfriend had the pad thai. The no charge refills on the thai tea was greatly appreciated since it worked to counteract the spiciness better than water. The restaurant was clean and the wait staff was very helpful. You can see the food being made in the back and you can tell this is definitely a little mom and pop Thai place. read more

Yet, another lunch place. But a darn good one! We hit this place 3-4 times a month. The food is excellent. We love the Thai beef salad, duck Ka Pow, garlic chicken....man, everything is good! The ladies there are very nice and are working. Sometimes it is very busy and the food takes a while but most of the time it's fast and quality! I will return early and often! read more

Wow, this was an amazing find. Decided to check it out for lunch, as it's close to the office. I haven't had too many Thai experiences so I wasn't sure what to order. Settled on their lunch special of the day, which was pineapple curry with chicken. I ordered it "medium," which I thought would be pretty middle-of-the-road in terms of heat. The prices are very reasonable and the food came out so fast for our table of six, I was kind of shocked. The curry was delicious! Unbelievable flavor and perfectly cooked rice. "Medium" was actually sort of warm, so I'll probably go with "mild" next time (and I love spicy food!). I guess Thai heat is no joke. Everyone at our table raved about their food, so it's pretty safe to say we'll be back very soon. Great job! read more

I was a bit under the weather a few days ago and decided to get the chicken noodle soup...AWESOME! It was full of flavor and had savory noodles, chicken, scallions, green onions and bean sprouts. Stopped in here on a drive home to NOVA. Strip mall location, unimpressive frontage, interior looks like a thai-themed diner. But the food? Affordable. Tasty, quick to be serve. Hot. I wish this place was closer--I'd definitely be back! read more

OVERALL: Great Thai food with a friendly atmosphere! FOOD: Definitely a variety of dishes that is standard in most Thai Restaurants. The Panang Curry, a favorite of mine, definitely hit the mark. The other dishes at my table, the pad thai, green curry and vegetable stir fry were all delicious and authentic. ATMOSPHERE: Standard place with nice decor. SERVICE: 5 Stars here! Never an empty glass or lack of a smile. read more

Thai Papaya - Tom Kha Gai and Thai iced tea - Thai Near Me - Hampton, Virginia

We ran into this place when being in Hampton on a whim. What a pleasant surprise. We had the Pad Thai and the Drunken Noodles and they were both terrific. We got them extra spicy and they delivered- unlike the many Thai places in Norfolk which I find to be over priced and wimpy on the spice.. The place was clean and the waitress was super friendly. We will be back. Another plus- there is a small Thai market next door where I finally found the curry paste that I had been looking for in every Asian market in Norfolk and Va Beach. read more

Great family-owned place! They are always busy at lunch time and the staff are good at recognizing frequent diners. They even suggested that we call ahead on our order so that we can be back to work on time. If on a time constraint, ORDER AHEAD! Well worth it! Their other restaurant in Newport News doesn't seem to have the same chef; food wasn't as flavorful. Remember, go mild and add spice! read more

Food was supposed to be hot but had no spice. The sliced beef had no seasoning. All their items seemed to be dated on rice and a protein. It looked like Indian but they're was no naan and the curry looked watery. Will not come again read more

I got the Pad Thai and crab wantons. Wantons are 5 for $5 I believe. I can't remember. They were a lot smaller than I expected. The order of pad Thai was huge! Def worth the money. I would go back here because there is so much on the menu I want to try. You can customize every dish to your desired spiciness. The have a lot of outdoor parking and there us indoor seating read more

Great food and quick service! The food was on point!

I stopped by here on the way to a meeting with a client. Was surprised to find a Thai restaurant in Hampton. I got the Pad See Yew. It was not nearly as good as my Thai places in New York City but that's to be expected. I don't know if Thai restaurants typically make their own noodles or use commercially manufactured noodles... but Pad See Yew at my favorite Thai places seem to be of non-uniform width whereas the noodles here were very uniform. The noodles just didn't have the same chewy texture as the better Thai restaurants I've been to. Prices are kinda on the high side from what I'd expect in Hampton but maybe there's a premium on ethnic food because it's relatively uncommon. Anyway, if this is your only option for Thai, it's not bad but I don't think anyone can claim it's the best Thai food ever. read more

I have definetly had better Thai food, however in THIS area I would come here. I favor fresh spring rolls with shrimp, which they DO NOT have. Prices are reasonable, I feel they could do better but don't because there is no real competition. There is a Thai food store right next door that is my go to shop for home Thai food use. read more

I'm not sure if it's right, but the pad Thai here is absolutely the best I have EVER had! Great place for lunch!

Best Thai in the area. Love eating at this quaint and local eatery. Fresh made dishes, haven't tried anything I haven't liked. Friendly staff and quick service. Great for pickup or dine in. Love that the food isn't overly greasy or salty in anyway. read more

This place is awesome! Really good, authentic, inexpensive Thai food. Also, the portions are pretty big, so if you like to eat like I do, this place will take care of you. I wish there was a place like this near where I live in Maryland, I would be there every week for sure. read more

I did not enjoy my food or dining experience at Thai Papaya! I was in town for business and excited to try this place because of the awesome reviews. I was totally thrown for a loop! I had green curry, my guest had red. Both were subpar. The service was insanely slow and not very friendly. Hampton residents must not know good Thai food, because Thai Papaya is awful! read more

Those two stars go directly to the cream cheese appetizer. If it weren't for those, one star, hands down. They have so-so service, but I wasn't really wanting great, attentive service today. I kinda just wanted to be left alone. So, it was a good day for them to not care about how we're doing. I got the sweet and sour chicken, at a medium (3 of 5) spice rating. To be honest, it felt more like a one. The entree was bland, and disappointing. I had high hopes after the great appetizer. I'm not really from this area, so I'm not sure what else is available. But, if you can find a different Thai place, it might be worth looking at. read more

We ordered pad Thai, pad see eww and the shrimp egg rolls and everything was delicious. We will definitely order again!

We walked into the restaurant and there were only a few tables open. We were able to be seated right away and placed our order. A large group then showed up and we could see that they had preordered their meals because the server started bringing out their food. We waited over a half hour before I went up to ask when our food would be coming out. Then five minutes later started to bring out our food. I ordered the Yum Beef Salad, which is usually my favorite but one look at the beef in my salad and after tasting it I could tell it was bad. The beef was gray in color. I sent the meal back and will not return to this restaurant. read more

This is my third time attempting a to go order from this spot. Same dish, asking for Basil Fried Rice - Pork - Thai Hot. This is the third time it has came without any spice whatsoever. I would serve this to a three year old that liked rice. Called the restaurant and explained what had happened. They stated they would be more careful next time. No offer to replace the meal tomorrow or a discount etc. Very disappointed and will not be back. read more

Another waste of time and money at this restaurant. The food lacked flavor. It was extremely dry and they did not hesitate to charge me extra for adding tofu. They should have at least specified that they're doing that before doing so. Will not be returning. read more
