The customer service was friendly but the food was disappointing. I ordered the beef salad and chicken pad thai. The beef salad was bland and the chicken pad thai was made with some weird noodles. Not pad thai. It wasn't disgusting but it wasn't good. I've eaten at countless thai joints across the country and this by far was the least impressive. read more

Green curry was very good, I love the spice levels, thai hot had me sweating, but in a good way. I thought the price on the spring rolls was a little steep and the dessert of Taro "pearls" with coconut milk was actually cubes and very disappointing for the price. Good, fast service. read more

This place had a pretty good Pad Thai. The food was very good and flavorful. Would have been better of the meat pieces weren't so small. Eaten there twice in a couple of months so they one of the places I have tried in this area so far. read more

My favorite Thai restaurant in the Hampton Roads area so far. Food is great, staff is friendly, facilities are simple and clean. Food is not over priced and portions are decent. I don't eat out often, but I frequently come here. read more

OMG! Best Thai I've had so far, it's tucked away in a sketchy shopping center BUT once in the restaurant you forget that. I got the Beef Salad and it was DELISH! It is a smaller place that is PACKED during lunch hours (that says a lot) so if your on your lunch break make sure you have time, they do always seem short staffed so service is a little slow. BUT IF YOU HAVE TIME ITS WELL WORTH IT!!! read more

This is what Thai food tastes like for real. Most restaurants cater to Americans. Thai people eat here.

Visited here a few times during the lunch hour rush from Langley AFB. Don't let the location fool you; the customer service does not disappoint. They're quick, friendly, and helpful and willing to give details about unfamiliar items. Delicious dishes although portions seem small and sparing when it comes to substance (i.e. more broth in the curry dishes than actual meat and vegetables). read more

I chose this place looking for something new. I went on my lunch hour (after 2pm). I found the place to be cozy, clean and welcoming. I ordered chicken fried rice with medium heat. (Next time I will try the Fire, it wasn't that spicy to me). My meal was exceptionally well seasoned, fresh, hot and the portion size was VERY good. I was delighted that my meal was served in a timely fashion less than 15mins, allowing me 20-30mins of my lunch hour to talk and eat with my bestie! (Both of our meals came out at the same time) I will be back for more! Thanks Thai Papaya!!! read more

Very good, authentic Thai restaurant. I went there for lunch with a co-worker. The portions were more than enough for lunch. The ingredients were fresh and plentiful. I would definitely recommend this if you're in the area. The only reason that I didn't give 5 stars was due to temperature in the establishment. It was 95 degrees this day and unfortunately it wasn't much cooler than that on the inside. read more

This is my favorite Thai restaurant in the area. I've been going here for over 4 years. I absolutely love their Taro root rolls, Garlic chicken entree, and combination fried rice. The service is generally good but occasionally you get a waitress who is hard to flag down, but that isn't too often thankfully. I also recommend the Thai coffee! Sometimes they accidentally bring me Thai tea instead so make sure it's not an orange colored drink if you order Thai coffee. read more

We ordered red curry, green curry, and pepper steak. The Flavoring & spices were good on all entrees, but all of our dishes seemed watered down. In the future I would probably ask for double portions of meat on the entrees. The rice was good! read more

I visited Thai Papaya on June 21st 2015 and my experience was very good. I enjoyed the thai sweet tea it gives an extra flavor that I really enjoy every time. For dinner I had the combination rice which has great flavors and I enjoy mine spicy but the level of hotness in it was above what I thought it was going to have but to my surprise it was great. I would recommend Thai Papaya to anyone that wants a good meal and customer service for cheap along with a great dining experience. read more

Always great for lunch. I get the shrimp rolls and garlic chicken. The combination fried rice is delicious too.

Best Thai food in hampton. The chicken egg rolls and pad Thai are amazing. Fast service and clean restaurant. My coworkers and I order to go from here quite often and our orders are always correct and taste great. Great prices and friendly staff. read more

Thai spice is hot. But it's so good. First time getting pad Thai and I never looked back. Ended up tryin the beef hot salad and glad I did. Now I get the wide noodles (pad see eew) and it's the best. read more

My go to for thai food in Hampton or Newport News, chicken egg rolls and Kapow with chicken was great, plenty of flavor!

I have been to Thailand like 6 times and this feels like my home away from home. Truly authentic!!!

My boyfriend and I always go to Thai Papaya for anything Thai. Even when we are out of town and he wants pad Thai we always say "yeah but it won't be as good as Thai papaya" and pick somewhere else to eat. It's a family run restaurant that I love. Around lunch time they all have a family meal. I love seeing small companies do that. Plus, they remember your names and orders! read more

After living in the DC area for many years, the worst part of relocating back to this area was the less than abundant ethnic eateries (particularly Thai). However...I spotted this place completely by accident; and as others have mentioned, it is indeed small and unassuming, but this food is by far the best Thai I've had in the area. That would include Norfolk AND Virginia Beach. Yes, the staff is very busy when I usually walk in, but they are are extremely friendly and accommodating. My favorite dishes are the drunken noodles (i could live off of these), beef salad (Extra Hot) and the Panang curry (with chicken). read more

Great food! We are visitors to the Hampton area, and found Thai Papaya via Yelp. When we pulled up at this somewhat run down strip mall, we were thinking ruh-roh, what have we gotten into here? However, once inside, the place is neat, clean, and tastefully decorated. Service was good, speedy and the food was wonderful. The prices were a pleasant surprise too. Too bad we don't live local, or we'd become regulars. read more

Love this place. The chicken pad thai is amazing, the curries are wonderful, and my husband's favorite is the combination fried rice. You can't go wrong with any dishes here. The portions are very big as well, and the staff is very friendly. Definitely my favorite Thai food place in Hampton roads. read more

Don't be fooled by the creepy shopping center! I'll be honest, I didn't have the highest of hopes when a friend invited me the first time, but I was pleasantly surprised. This place has great food for great prices, fast but NOT fast food. The pad Thai is my favorite & they give you the option of how spicy you'd like it on a scale of 1 to 4 with 4 being the spiciest (as in grab an extra napkin cause' your nose is gonna run!)....oh so good! Clean atmosphere, friendly staff, appears to be a Langley AFB favorite judging by all the uniformed diners. I've eaten here 3 times & look forward to many more. read more

We have gone to this place for at least 3 years and unfortunately we have witnessed a decline in quality and an Increase in the price!! Yesterday's (6/6/18) was the last straw!!! There was No flavor, we ordered one House fried rice combo Thai Heat and ordered the second Combo no heat, plus shrimp egg rolls. They skipped on portions in the second container even looked like the "scooped" some out! No Cilantro, no tomatoes, skimpy on the onions... ALL THESE INGREDIENTS IS WHAT MAKES THE DISH!!!! And we ordered to go. Paid and realized "Hmm, that's much more than usual!" I ask the cashier/server and she said "this is lunch menu, lunch over so price increases." ... Ugh!!! Then WHY GIVE ME THE LUNCH MENU AND DECEIVE ME ABOUT THE PRICES??!!! Bad Business!!!! Horrible! And We're Done! Turning our business to Tops China!!! read more

The food is great! However, be prepared to wait! I called an order in at 1125AM today. I was told it would be an hour before it was ready. I arrived at 1230, I paid for my order and then was told to have a seat. I asked if it was ready and was told "we are almost done". Needless to say it was another 25 mins before I received my order. Believe me if the food was not as great as it is I would not go back as I believe if you tell someone to come in an hour, their order should be ready when they arrive. read more

One star. They forgot to put my wife's order in our bag. Got home and noticed, called and the guy said he'd give us credit for a free meal. When I went to go pick up my food he changed his mind and gave us two sodas. They barely put any meat in my pepper steak meal. Also My wife had to drive all the way back there only to get the wrong noodles. Never going here again. AND IT WAS SUPER EXPENSIVE! read more

Unfortunately the food was no good...after hearing great reviews we wanted to come here and try it ourselves. Got the shrimp eggrolls and sauce-no flavor and the sauce was watery. Tom Yum soup smelled like feet but i still gave it a go...had the shrimp which had an old strong fish taste at the center as if they were tossed in the soup last minute. The mushrooms were from a can also. The flavor of the soup was very watered down and nothing like the hot and sour it stated. Also got the chicken with rice noodles and chicken broth. The appearance was nice but lacked flavor...overall very VERY disappointed. When the waitress asked how the food was we politely told her it wasn't good and the shrimp tasted bad. She only offered to make us another Tom Yum soup instead of offering to take this item off the bill. Needless to say...we will not return here again. read more

Call and place order for pickup was told 30-40 min got there on time and pick up food wasn't ready had to wait longer. Okay I get they are really busy but pick up order should be ready and it not ask how much longer she said 5 min. Well it been five min read more

Not bad. The chicken pad thai was surprisingly not very good. The thai chicken however was phenomenal. The Staff are very nice, so I'd definitely go back and try other options but I don't recommend the pad thai if you're a Thai food enthusiast. read more

Our daughter suggested we have dinner here and it's become one of our favorites. The food and service is always very good. I witnessed a customer give one of the staff (the lady who operates the cash register) a really hard time and she was a professional to the end. I recommend. read more

I liked Thai Papaya. It is definitely a hole in the wall of a small shopping complex. Upon walking in, it resembles most other local yocal Thai places, with some random decor, and a counter to pick up your take-out food. We were not exactly greeted upon walking in, so we sat ourselves down, and were attended to in a reasonable amount of time. We ordered some egg rolls and steamed dumplings, which came out lightening fast. Also ordered some pad thai and red curry. Both were very generous portions and tasty. Thai P. offers the choice of spice intensity, which I very much appreciate. The "medium" was plenty, and my mouth was on fire for at least 10 minutes after I left the restaurant. We had some for leftovers to bring home. A good value. We went for dinner, but I'll bet it's a hit for lunch for the AFB folks. The fact that the food comes out quick was pretty nice for how starving I was! I'd go back. Four stars for being pretty good. Not the best, but pretty darn good. read more

The food is sooo good. I love this place. The best Thai food in Hampton. In every bit was delicious.

Oh my word this place is a hidden gem. I ordered the Thai fried rice Thai hot and that bad boy was deeee-lic-ious. They give u a pretty big portion of rice and although u want to save some your body tells you to keep eating. When my body couldn't consume anymore I stared at it and made googly eyes to it promising it that I will come back for it in a couple of hours. We also ordered the chicken stir fry and those flavored were amazing as well. Very good food. But keep your eye out for the location bc you might miss it read more

All time fav! The most authentic tasting thai tea and entrees in hampton roads. It's very low key and laid back. The prices are low and the portions are massive. Love it! read more
